Y/N jolted awake, screaming and crying as she sat up, hot tears streaming down her face. The nightmare she had was unspeakable, and she reached over to the bedside table to turn on the lamp, pondering how her brain could even imagine such a horrifying image.
Her boyfriend Joe was sat up in bed when she turned her head to see if she had woken him up, making her jump in surprise. Joe didn’t say much, but wrapped his arms softly around her, kissing her cheek as he embraced her. “Are you okay, Y/N?” Joe asked, stroking her hair softly. She nodded and buried her face in his shoulder. “I woke up while you were tossing and turning.”
Y/N started crying into Joe’s shoulder, gripping onto him as though her life depended on it. “It’s going to be okay, Y/N/N,” Joe whispered, “It was just a nightmare… You’re here with me now… You’re safe..” Joe rested his head atop of hers, continuing to gently caress her hair to comfort her. Tears continued to stream down her cheeks, soaking the shoulder of Joe’s pajama shirt.
“I was so scared, Joey..” Y/N sobbed into his shoulder, but it was muffled a bit since her face was buried in his shoulder. “I know, I know, angel.. I’m here for you now, okay..? Don’t worry..” The two sat in silence for a few more moments, enjoying each other’s embrace. Y/N nuzzled into him and Joe kissed the crown of her head.
“Do you want to go back to sleep now, sweetheart?” Joe asked softly, still holding her in his arms. Y/N nodded silently and pulled away from the hug, turning off the bedside lamp. Joe laid back in bed, and Y/N rested her head on his chest, his heartbeat lulling her back to sleep.
