Uh Sorry I Rambled - Tumblr Posts
I think the Crystal Gems did well, though it would have been great to hear them say it out loud.
I believe Yellow was sincere in her tears, I'm skeptical about Blue, but White was straight up milking it. I think Spinel's tears were forced, but I also believe that's part of her character. Everything has to be overdramatized, which actually leads me to a disturbing point.
White and Spinel were going back and forth over whose fault it was, with each one trying to one up the other. The scene felt like they were trying to make the attention about them, which is backed up by Connie warning them to not make it about them.
I also think Spinel is mimicking White, whether out of fear, discomfort, or genuinely looking up to her, I'm not sure yet.
Heck, in the ending, we don't even see the Diamonds, Spinel, or anybody! Maybe this is so the show can get back to its roots with the original characters, but to not even see or hear them talk about Steven and what they've done to him, it's kind of upsetting.
I've got another theory about White and Spinel, but I can continue that in a reblog or post.
What was Missing from the End of Steven Universe Future
It was of course a fantastic end to the show, but there's something that I've always wanted to see in the show, but unfortunately will never get. We got to watch Steven breakdown, (still shocked that the corruption theory was right), and the Diamonds lament about how everything is their fault. Spinel also tried to take the blame, but the Crystal Gems (and Greg) were dead silent.
Even after Connie told them that now wasn't the time to make it about themselves, and how it is their faults, there was no self reflection afterwards.
Now, I'm not saying it didn't take place! But it would have been nice for us and Steven to see everyone (yes, even Greg) think about what part they took in bringing this kid so low.
His gem was ripped out, he stabbed Bismuth straight through the freaking chest for crying out loud! And if you think Greg's innocent, think back to the previous few episodes where he made a trip of adventure all about himself and never let his son explain his thoughts. That is literally his job as a father.
I really wish we could have seen everyone reflect and understand Steven in a new light, all by seeing what they had done to him.
Again, I'm not saying this didn't happen, I'm saying it should have been shown to us.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
