The Business Killer

Okay, TJLCers, I can no longer remain a lurker. This shit is getting too damn real, and I have to share my thoughts on this new trailer. So, we know from setlock that Toby Jones's character is known as The Business Killer on what appears to be an Apprentice type television show. My first thoughts after seeing Sherlock, John, and Mycroft in that strange room together were "Mind Palace", but then upon further viewing, I reconsidered. I think Smith has placed the three in the room together so that they can act out a twisted version of his reality show just for him. Hear me out, now. I can't say exactly why he would do this other than speculating that the trio had some sort of plan to take Smith down, but it failed pretty spectacularly. Now, he has the opportunity to do whatever he likes with them, and he chooses to hurt them by making them hurt each other. If they want to get out alive, they have to play his game. Mycroft of course immediately protests because, honestly, the ridiculousness of it all! "Is this suppose to be a game?" In that shot of Smith delivering the line, "Tell them your darkest secret." he's speaking to them inside that room. More specifically, he's speaking to Sherlock. "Tell them your darkest secret, and I'll let them live." Sherlock is grabbing his head in that panicked way he does a la TGG/Reichenbach because he wants to find a way out of this that doesn't involve any of them actually giving in to this creep, but there isn't another way. They have to play, so he does. "I love you." Some other nagging thoughts: The gun seems to be being passed back and forth under the direction of a large, unknown man. Perhaps whomever is holding the gun has to answer Smith's question or do whatever he tells them. Some sick version of truth or dare, maybe? I'm not sure exactly how the gun would come into play, though. I'm sure it's pretty effed up, whatever it is. Also, I think Sherlock is staring into a two way mirror, knowing Smith is on the other side taunting him. Okay, that's enough of me for now. What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Sorry I have no visuals to make this a bit clearer.

This is perfect. Next time I doze off at the console while the designers are bickering during a 14 hour levels session I can just point to this.

From the second link: " ‘I’ which means ‘to be present’ in a situation that is not sleep and ‘nemuri’ which means ‘sleep’. Erving Goffman’s concept of “involvement within social situations” is useful I think in helping us grasp the social significance of inemuri and the rules surrounding it."

"In this context, inemuri can be seen as a subordinate involvement which can be indulged in as long as it does not disturb the social situation at hand – similar to daydreaming. Even though the sleeper might be mentally ‘away’, they have to be able to return to the social situation at hand when active contribution is required. They also have to maintain the impression of fitting in with the dominant involvement by means of body posture, body language, dress code and the like."

I am at the board, dressed in black, ready to type. Just wake me up when you figure out what you want. Golden.

In Japan, public napping is a sign of hard work. It’s called ‘inemuri,’ which means ‘sleeping on duty’ or ‘sleeping while present.’ Because falling asleep in public is thought to be a symptom of working yourself to exhaustion, it’s socially acceptable in restaurants, stores, commuter trains, and on park benches- as long as you don’t sprawl out and take up too much space.
