Rethinking Chapter 6 in Super Paper Mario

I think Super Paper Mario should’ve had a proper chapter 6. It’s a bit of a shame that we only got to see a small fraction of this world before it was destroyed.

It also doesn’t help that the entire 6th Chapter is just battling these Sammer Guys, so it wouldn’t feel like anything would be regained once you bring back the dimension. It actually feels like a relief that you don’t have to fight all 100 Sammer Guys, so maybe in a way, you’d feel fine if this dimension were to just go away.

I believe that this world deserved better, to be expanded upon so that you not only have a good time playing, but you also will feel like real worlds are on the line once this world is erased. I believe that it should’ve gone something like what I’m about to describe.

For Chapter 6-1, you would start off in a hilly field where the black trees would grow naturally along with cherry blossoms. You’d still see the void in the sky very menacingly close to the world. It’d be like Chapter 1-1 where you just go about the level, defeating enemies, some from other chapters, some unique to this chapter.

For Chapter 6-2, you would arrive at the very start of Sammer’s Kingdom, the only problem is that the door appears to be completely shut, with no keyhole, but there does appear to be some spike holes in it. To open this door, you’d need to use the pixl Barry to smash the door open. These kinds of doors will appear throughout the kingdom.

Inside the outer kingdom, you’d see a lively city with the people doing a bunch of activities. There are also a bunch of doors, and one at the end of the outer kingdom with a lock in it, to get to this door open, you’d need to go all around the place, going from person to person, trading item to item to item until you eventually get the key to the door. Of course, each person is on the other side of these other doors, and the rooms they’re in are filled with enemies. When you finally enter the locked door, you will be at what seems to be the end of the chapter, however just as you’re about to get to the star block that I forgot the name of, there’s an ambush of those shadow things that you’d usually encounter in some of the fights in the regular game.

They break the block and attack. Now you have to go back to where you were to find a repair guy to fix it. Unlike the tedious process of going to person to person to get the correct items, this is more straight forward, as all the doors will be locked by the people inside, but you can use Dottie to enter one of these locations using a smaller door, and this location is where you can find someone to repair the block. Unfortunately, these shadow creatures are still on the loose and causing havoc, so you’ll need to defeat them all before the repair guy can feel safe enough to come outside and repair the star block. Once the block is repaired, you can finally move onto Chapter 6-3.

Chapter 6-3 is just the regular Chapter 6, but no 25 room splits, they’re all in this single chapter. Chapter 6-3 will then play out as the normal chapter 6 would, but with you only having to fight 15 Sammer guys before the void becomes alarmingly close. Eventually you’ll get to the battle with Mimi, and this is where the difference is, in that she locks you into the room she’s in after she’s gone. Luckily, there’s a rift to use Fleep at on the other side of the room, and this rift will make something unfold ahead in 3D. It’s a pipe all the way to the end of the chapter.

In Chapter 6-4, the void is immense, looming over the entire world, covering the entire sky. The urgency is real, and they’re so close to their goal. This is the entrance to the palace, a maze of rooms where security Sammer guys who have no idea what’s going on outside try to attack you left and right. Eventually, you’d reach this giant outside area that leads to the grand master bedroom of the palace, where the king whom I forgot their name as well is snoozing, with the pure heart. Unfortunately, the void above trembles, as it’s mere moments away from eradicating the world from existence. Here, you’d have the encounter with Count Bleck. After he’s gone, in a last ditch effort to get the pure heart before it’s too late, Thoreau escapes your pocket and does a mad dash to the other end of the outside area. As you feel that the world is finally about to end, you’re forced to use the return pipe, leaving Thoreau behind as the end of the world finally happens.

Now there’d be some pixl interactions scattered throughout the game in order for you to feel that you’ve actually lost an ally when Thoreau goes for the pure heart, as for the entire game, the pixls feel like nothing but tools.

In this way, you’d get a feel that this isn’t just some random dimension getting destroyed with a bunch of fighters, but the dimension gets destroyed with it’s civilians, wildlife, culture, and everything in-between. When you re-enter the door to Chapter 6, all of what you’ve explored will be completely gone, all white space, making the thought of this happening everywhere even more chilling.

When you find the pure heart in it’s stone state, you will be able to see Thoreau’s shadow engraved on it, and nothing else, giving the feeling that Thoreau is gone forever. Once you’d get to the Underwhere, the queen who I really need to memorize these names examines the heart per usual, and per usual you get Luigi to get the daughter, and when you come back to get the pure heart, the queen also finds that a very very weakened Thoreau was attached to it. Thoreau only having a sliver of life to survive on, thanks to the pure heart. In Chapter 7-4, you will finally be able to revive Thoreau and bring them back to their former self, probably through the power of the rainbow, or some other means, I don’t know. There’d also be a range boost for Thoreau, just to encourage the use of them more often.

After the Sammer Kingdom is saved, you can do the regular select of selecting any of the chapters from 6-1 to 6-4. Chapter 6-3 has the regular 100 guys you can fight, and instead of a star block to take you to the next chapter each 25 rooms, there’d be a mushroom to heal you up from all your combat.
