Ok ok hear me out-- about your art of Jamil and his clipped wings-- it reminded me soooooo much of this song called 'the Tragedy of Dorado' by an artist called 'Kasamura Toota'

The ending is a bit different but everything else is the same. Damn now I need to do a songfic/songart/whatever-I-could-call-it with Kalim and Jamil coz it fits just too well.

Side note, but "Dorado" sounds a lot like "Dos à dos" in French, which means "Back to Back". Dunno if it's on purpose but it works very well with the theme!

Hi, how are you? I really like your blog! (I'm using a translator, my English is terrible, sorry).
About your wings!AU a very random thing is that in my country (Brazil) there is a popular expression/metaphor that says "Não dê asas a uma cobra". Which literally translates to "Don't give wings to a snake". It means something like "don't give ideas or motives to someone who already has the intention of doing something (usually bad) or who already has their reasons for doing it". I don't know if this makes sense. For example, giving Azul a secret, knowing that he'll use it to blackmail, would be "giving wings to a snake. I think that kind of fits Jamil, both literally and figuratively. Your drawing of Kalim giving Jamil feathers fits very well, in my opinion.
Sorry if that didn't make sense, but feel free to ask if you're confused.
Hohoho that's so awesome! It doesn't just fit the last art, it fits their whole relationship in this AU (and also kinda in the game haha) (*adding it to my list of ideas for this AU)

Is jamils family the only wingless servants to the asims? I'd imagine not since there's some implication of wings being pretty common, so then the other servants probably have smaller/ less colourful/ less cool wings than the asims? That image of "overshadowing" in one of the earlier posts was so cool
On that note I'm wondering if the other asims know they do this, or actively encourage (hmmmm angst)

1. Most of the servants have wings, but either less colorful or less impressive than the Asim. Fairly standard wings one could find everywhere. A few are naturally wingless though.
2. If there are other servants who cut their wings, nobody knows about it because, just like the Vipers, they keep it secret.
3. This habit doesn't come from nowhere. Once upon a time the Asim (and other influential families) would indeed cut their servants' wings if they were more beautiful or bigger than theirs. It became a matter of survival (keeping one's job, not being butchered into disability, keeping one's reputation intact, etc) to get rid of wings before the masters could even know they existed.
Do the current Asim know their servants do this? Maybe. Maybe not. They might very well have forgotten all about this old tradition. From their point of view, they simply have wingless or regularly winged servants.
The axe forgets but the tree remembers.

Bro, I was rereading the Wings!AU stuff and my youtube was playing "Die with a Smile" - Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and I've never felt so many emotions, I started crying so bad 😭

Thanks to your latest post (very not good™️ for my poor heart) I reread the Al'ab Nariya and I must say Jamil is really soft with his little sister. For someone as adamant about not caring (to be fair it was towards Kalim and Azul for very different reasons), he didn't even try to correct Najma went she said he still looked after her and it's easy for her to lean on him, he just smiled and teased her as "spoiled rotten" 🥺🥺🥺

I loved this event so much, Jamil being so soft with Najma and Najma revealing just how much of an idiot kid Jamil truly is, it's like balm to the heart <3 You have no idea how much I love those two.
So, don’t know how much angst you want to add to your Wing au. But this thought has been buzzing around my head for a while.
It isn’t just Jamil who’s having to deal with the pain of losing his wings, it’s his little sister to, the one he is supposed to look after and protect. I just feel it would add so much to Jamil’s hatred towards Kalim and the Asim in general, it isn’t just about him but his family as well.
Take what you want from this, just figured I would throw it out there 🤷♀️
Hi, sorry for answering this so late, but there was no way for me to give a response without spoiling everything I had planned :'D
Since his original OB was because he thought his whole family was going to be punished for his own wrongdoings (because he genuinely thought the crew had broadcasted his evil plan to the whole world), it was planned that his family's suffering would be the last straw for this AU too.
I'm really happy you (and others) managed to see Najma's involvement coming! I did introduce the concept of family as soon as possible (second post) for a reason and despite not insisting on it as much as I wanted the message still seems to have been understood so I'm glad :3

Dear Gods, friends, you really want to know, uh?
Right here is Kalim's wings model, which are indeed Macaw parrot's wings. I wanted something very colorful for him, that immediately catches the eyes, but without any actual gold.
And here are my two references for Jamil's wings. The first is (white tail) eagle's wings, who are known to have an impressive wingspan. Plus making Jamil a bird of prey seemed fitting.
The second reference (for his colors) is the Anqa, which is the Arabian phenix. There are not many depictions of it though, so my reference below is actually the Fenghuang, which is the Chinese equivalent.
