My Opinions on the States being Cryptids:

All ‘Monster’ this and ‘Regular People’ that, give me my UNCANNY VALLEY!!!

If you wanna hear my thoughts on Gov and Assistants' Cryptidness and how they, being fragments of a greater whole (Eternity and Infinity) are so very different but so similar to the States, I will be glad to explain my eldritch horrors in human skin as much as I can <3

I’ll also be explaining the ‘Do-Not-Notice-Me’ in another post, and how it affects different personifications :)

———————————————————————

The States aren’t cryptids in the way that they’re monstrous. Aren’t cryptids in the way that they’re so obviously not human that anyone can tell...

They’re crytpids in the way that they look human, they act human, but they aren’t human enough.

Their body temperature is never normal, too hot or too cold and they never seem to notice how it affects the humans around them (they notice, they can’t help it, they learn not to care if it’s not hurting anyone).

Their movements are either too jerky or too smooth, like their bones are in the wrong places or not there at all.

They have no fingerprints, no belly buttons, their eyes seem to look straight through to your very soul (they can see which State you’re from; where you were born and where you have lived in your life. It’s an instinct to check). They have too many teeth, too sharp, too much like animals-- you look again and they look like any other human teeth, but you know what you saw.

They blink, but not enough. They breathe, but not enough. As if they actually have to think about it, as if it’s a manual function and not necessary for their survival.

You think you’ve seen them in photos from your Great Grandpa’s war days, they look exactly the same, some you’ve even seen in history book pages-- but you look again and forget how familiar they are. They look so young, there’s no way they can be so old.

If you ask a doctor, before they forget, they’ll say they’ve never seen any DNA like that. That their blood type does not exist in any existing species science is aware of. That their bodies function like any other human, but the organs and bones are wrong. Like a fake, like something trying so hard to copy the human body and failing.

Their aura of Do-Not-Notice-Me protects them from being noticed most of the time, but sometimes it fails. Sometimes they’re too strange, too inhuman, have too little control in the heat of the moment and people see. They perceive and they process and they notice.

It activates the primal fight-flight-or-freeze response. The one most humans think lost with their ancient ancestors. Noticing the States brings it to the forefront of thought.

They’re strange, they’re wrong...

They’re uncanny.

The Do-Not-Notice-Me; Slightly Explained

If you have questions, just ask!

———————————————————————

Personifications don’t follow conventional human standards or social norms. Normally, such things could get them killed, especially in previous centuries, but they have something that protects them.

No matter what they do, if it’s not causing a large ruckus or anything, it will simply go unnoticed. It’s one of the more subtle, subconscious powers of Personifications. They will be seen, humans will recognize that someone is there, but human minds will not process their presence, they will be unnoticed.

It’s how no one questions why they never age. Why no one questions their relationships, even if they would be considered taboo at the time. Why no one questions their strange mannerisms.

It’s a subtle Do-Not-Notice-Me aura that surrounds them, that warps the perception the humans have of them.

Of course, depending on the Personification, this subconscious aura has different strengths.

Cities and Agencies have it the weakest, all it takes is a third glance and some will start to question who they are and what they’re doing.

They have to be the most careful, have to act the most like regular humans and have to change with the times at the same rate as humanity, else someone takes that third look. They have no control over this aura.

States and Departments have it a bit stronger, it takes them doing something that will draw attention, even through the haze, and usually caused by Florida.

The States don’t go out extremely often, and when they do they try to blend in even despite it. It doesn’t always work. They often take longer to change with the times due to lack of human engagement, but are also so rarely seen that no one notices. They have decent control over this aura, and are usually the ones that get noticed the most.

The Departments are always out and about and working around humans. But they’ve been raised with the art of subtlety, and know how to hide themselves even when their Do-Not-Notice-Me aura doesn’t conceal them. They have extreme control over this aura.

Gov and Assistant’s auras are so strong it conceals personifications within their general eyesight and proximity. It also has the effect of warping video and audio footage, playback or live, even if they are unaware there are cameras. They have extreme control over this aura, and its so strong that if they don’t keep strict control they will never be seen, let alone noticed.

The most others can do is blur their face on cameras, but Gov and Assistant have destroyed entire computer systems without being aware of said system. It takes actual effort from them for their kids to take photos of them.

They work work work, rarely stopping to care for themselves, and no one notices because of the aura. Even in 1788, when Robin and Adam Jones married, no one noticed the time-period taboo of a white man marrying a woman of color because of this.

Despite the size of their home, they had no workers, had no slaves, and no one noticed. Never was Robin pregnant but they had many children, that looked too much like them to be adopted, and no one noticed.

They changed the terrain under their feet or waved storms away on open seas and no one noticed.

If they wanted to, no one would ever see them. It would be as if they didn’t exist. They did that once, between January 1st, 1770, and September 4th, 1774. They were there, always there, and no one ever saw them. Not even the other personifications, who are mostly immune to the subconscious aura.

But, back then, it wasn’t a subconscious decision. It was a decision made with purpose and two Deities in Child’s bodies hid themselves and erased any destruction they caused.

There were so many war camps, war ships, Soldiers, that were never remembered because Congress and Assistant did not want them to remember.

They were supposed to lose the War, but these small fragments of Eternity and Infinity refused.

To fully explain the Cryptidness of a Country/Government Personification; such as Gov and Assistant, we need to break it down into four parts.

1 - Human Forms

2 - Casually Monstrous

3 - Comprehensible Horror

4 - Incomprehensible Horror

Of course, examples and comparisons (usually between Gov, Assistant and the States) will be necessary to explain to my best abiltiy. And what Personifications actually are will be explained in a different post.

Let’s start with something simple; Human Forms!

---------

Human Forms

So, a Government’s human form is similar to a States’; uncanny and wrong in every possible way, but there’s an undertone of…something. It feels as if you’re looking at something you shouldn’t, something your eyes should just glide over because your mind can’t comprehend it.

However, because of their strong Do-Not-Notice-Me aura, this is only ever recognized when they want it to be.

Unlike other personifications Do-Not-Notice-Me, which drops and fades when they’re weak/sick or when they cause enough of a ruckus, Government’s aura’s get stronger when they’re weak/unable to control it (no matter how much of a scene they cause, no one will see through it). This can result in no one even seeing them, let alone comprehending they exist. Photos and videos are ill-advised unless the government personification is willing and informed beforehand, lest your camera system implode on itself.

Otherwise, they function pretty much the same as any other personification.

---------

Casually Monstrous

This is more common when they’re pissed off or trying to threaten someone.

As seen in ‘Under My Protection’, Robin’s teeth get incredibly long and sharp, mouth growing wider than should be possible (like a snake), and her nails grow into claws. Her eyes become black irises on white seclera and white pupils.

Her environment shifts to be dark, not without light but as if the shadows are corporeal and blocking the way. Many eyes of different sizes, but all the same black iris and white pupils, open along the shadows.

Gov grows scales along his arms, nails also turning to claws, and his already prominent canines lengthen and curve, like venomous snake fangs on the top and bottom rows. The bitemark he leaves has four fang holes, with the top two being larger and deeper, but the rest of the bite looks like pinpricks.

He gains four extra eyes, incredibly small to the point no one really notices until he looks directly at them. Both sets are next to each other beneath his regular eyes. His eyes are bright green, with a similar pattern to a snake, but his pupils are more eagle-like.

These forms are usually only done when they don’t plan on leaving someone alive, but there are certain situations where killing them doesn’t give them what they want.

Seeing these forms with their Do-Not-Notice-Me dropped even slightly can start to fracture someone's perceptions. This mental fracture can be healed overtime with care, but leaves them more susceptible to further physical deterioration and mental decay. Of the two, Robin is Casually Monstrous the most.

---------

Comprehensible Horror

A taste of the gods in human bodies, a small piece of a greater whole molded to fit their own needs. They are massive, horrific, but with the Do-No-Notice-Me they can be seen and comprehended in small doses by whom they choose to be.

Adam takes the form of a snake, burrowing close to the core of the earth beneath the heart of the America. Six eyes catch every movement as his massive form blends into the shadows, fitting and hiding in places he should not fit. Able to change his size, but can not get longer than than 5,800 miles (the approximate length of the USA). He remains coiled and slightly smaller, in order to move around a little easier, but he is still enormous most of the time.

Robin gets tall–a little shorter than Hyperion, she can’t fit most places, but can force herself into a smaller body— minimum of 20 feet tall. A total of eight arms, the ‘human’ set remains clasped in front of her for the most part. Her two main eyes are shut, with one on her forehead and several on the backs of her hands, as well as the ones in the corporeal shadow walls. Extra limbs may extend from the shadows as well, usually elongated and bony. Her body is made entirely of shadows and light. She doesn’t take this form often, but when she does come out Adam likes to shrink and coil around her shoulders like a feather boa.

They may be horrifying and inhuman creatures, but they are still in love.

---------

Incomprehensible Horror

When every Government and Assistant personification merges, you get the incomprehensible horrors that are Infinity and Eternity.

A mix of Everything and Nothing, their true forms cannot remain on Earth for long– far too large and imposing, too dangerous to look at. To look at their true forms is deadly, your atoms split and burn into nothing.

If they wish to have a bit more class, to be able to converse even slightly with the Earthly Personifications they represent, they will take the form of something earthly– animals, humans, natural monuments–, goliaths in the astral plane between Empty and Full. They always look like a shifting universe, endless stars and color and darkness. Their eyes are always glowing white and pupiless, their mouths a black hole.

Their eyes project a million rebirths and a million deaths of the universe, a cloud of genesis and ending in their gaze. The sound like every voice in every language all at once– unless they purposefully try to communicate in one language–, but they sound like nothing at the same time.

They are things the human mind can’t comprehend, let alone attempt to describe. Their presence fills the air with a pressure that rips you apart at the seams.

hi!! I think you’ve mentioned how Adam and Robin have other forms. I think you mentioned this in a story or two and maybe a post. I’m not sure if you’ve gone into depth about it but when you can then I’d like to hear about the most specific stuff

Hello, lovely!!

I did describe them in a post, here:

Tumblr
To fully explain the Cryptidness of a Country/Government Personification; such as Gov and Assistant, we need to break it down into four part

I’m thinking of trying to draw them as well :3

Robin’s the more Casually Monstrous, while Adam will use his Comprehensible Horror form more than Robin will use hers.

Incomprehensible Horror is only for world-ending events, which the personifications have not yet encountered.

Adam and Robin are keeping their other forms a secret 🤫🤫 Their States don’t know that there’s a difference between Adam+Robin and the rest of them. The Departments kinda know because they’re closer in makeup to their parents than they are to the States, but the Departments are not Fragments. Might go into the differences between them all in a later post if people want me to.
