When you remember that Yamantaka is a secret that only the Shima family knows about.

I can imagine Renzou wanting to show off but having to keep it a secret.

I imagine that Renzou and Yamantaka get along, like Yamantaka really likes Renzou for his deceiving and michevious nature. He probably helps Renzou sneak around and not get caught too

Since Yamantaka was with Renzou since he was a baby, I like to think that Yamantaka would calm him down when he would cry, or play with him.
