Do you ever pick up something with a summary that's not super detailed (by which I mean pretty gosh darn vague) but you decide to read it expecting it to be lighthearted and then it deals massive psychological damage from how completely unhinged it is

I've done this twice now with the exact same story bc I forgot what it was when I found it the second time
like it starts out fine and then as time goes on you steadily realize maybe something is wrong
but you think maybe it's not literal
maybe it's just a heavy metaphor
but you keep reading
and it becomes increasingly clear that this is literal. this is absolutely crazy /neg
but you can't stop reading
it's a morbid fascination
anyways
yeah I'd like to think I've learned my lesson
and can now somewhat safely avoid those things
but we'll see I guess
