It's also removing the pressure of constantly overthinking the implications of your actions because the other person is a "potential romantic partner" and you need to impress them. It's letting lose and exposing your true self because there are no stakes, which ultimately makes fake dating so much more effective than real dating. And if one party already has feelings they can see what dating their crush'll be like and if they want more of it ya know?
I think part of the appeal of the fake dating trope, for me at least, is that so much of relationships feels like a performance. u hold the door open because that’s what you’re “supposed to do”, you pay the bill, you flirt, you borrow cheesy lines from the movies, you play a role. it’s fun but does it mean anything? is it “real”?
in a fake relationship u get to indulge in these romantic gestures without having to feel guilty abt leading someone on, about not “meaning” what you’re saying or doing. and then it turns into something real because it’s not the clichéd romantic milestones and romantic gestures which make u in love; u get to the point where u start doing those because you’re in love, which comes from a deeper place of rly knowing someone
Ok but we all love our Draco and Harry being sassy at each other. But where is our Draco and Harry's combined sass directed at a third party. How badass would that be?
Does anyone remember that scene in What If it's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera where Arthur mistook a random adult for Ansel Elgort and that man proceeded buy an underage Arthur a drink. I'm just sayin', they called it.
😩 Man it's 20fucking20 and I still have to Prove that what transpired in the parking lot of Scandals in the academic year of 2012 was sexual assault, plain and simple. I recently saw a comment that said we need to cut Blaine some slack because of the lack of awareness about consent back in the day, and of course because it's just a high school relationship it's meant to be flawed, Baby Blainy Days was drunk, etc
First off all, ignorance and/or motivation does not equal justification and it clearly doesn't negate the trauma of the victim. Secondly, the concept of consent is such a basic thing, one that Blaine was apparently perfectly willing to adhere to as long as it was convenient to him. As soon as he needed sex to play a role he didn't need in a high school production of West Side Story, his regard for Kurt's wishes went out the window. Moreover , Glee saw fit to address the nuances of consent in the Power of Madonna, so it why is it something that gets glossed over when it comes to boys ( and possibly ,Brittany)
Im still bitter about the glee boys not apologizing to Ryder, but at least his story was acknowledged as the serious shit it was by Kitty and (quite surprisingly, Mr.Shuester). Rachel got a sincere apology from Jessie. Compare that to Blaine's offhand explanation meant to absolve himself of all guilt. No remorse , no consideration for Kurt's feelings, AnD Kurt's the one that initiated the apology, for what , fuck knows. Yes, all relationships including high school ones are flawed the point of depicting such flaws on television should be to have the characters learn something from it, not to gloss over them completely.
All this would be slightly more bearable if Blaine was an actual lovesick hormonal drunken teen trying to get laid and not a calculating and selfish person who could handle no hands down south for a year but somehow became hell bent on lying to ,coercing his boyfriend into sex as soon as it promised him the spotlight. Blaine had One beer y'all he was not possessed by the ghost of Jeffrey Dahmer. The reason he couldn't pick up on Kurt's obvious distress and lack of enthusiasm is because he can't do it when he's sober. As a character that copes by repressing his emotions I think that maybee Kurt needs someone less obtuse and more attuned to his emotions than that

I kinda imagine Sebastian’s life is like a rap music video all the time.
Vaguely ACITW-inspired, obviously.
