Finally finished ASOS and one thing I find interesting is Petyr and Lysa. Spoilers obviously. (Also I'm not the best at analysing stuff lol)
In Sansa's final chapter in ASOS, she's building a Winterfell out of snow and Petyr comes to help her. At first this seems like a cute scene. After 'becoming a woman' and being threatened with rape Sansa finally acts like the child she is. Petyr almost plays as her father (which he claims he could of been- "How could I turn my back upon her daughter? In a better world, you might have been mine, not Eddard Stark's. My loyal loving daughter").
But this immediately turns sour when Petyr forces a kiss on her. And Robert destroys her 'Winterfell', which leads her to 'destroy 'kill' his doll.
Because of Petyr kissing her where everyone can see (even Lysa) she is called up Marillion to Lysa, where she accuses her of going onto Petyr just like Catelyn used to and almost throws her out of the Moon Door but Petyr saves Sansa and kills Lysa.
Backtracking while Lysa talks to Sansa and Petyr she acts very childish (e.g. "...why would you kiss herrrrrr?") and it becomes clear the forced abortion of her baby, marrying a much older man and suffering many miscarriages has led her to not only over protect her son but formed a co-dependent relationship with Petyr because that 'night with him' was a turning point in her life ( "you were always clever, I told Father that, I said Petyr's so clever, he'll rise high, he will, he will, and he's sweet and gentle and I have his little baby in my belly"). It's been said before I think but she is stuck at that point in her life, still jealous of Catelyn and acting like a child, she even makes Petyr shave, in an attempt to bring back his youth (defo heard that said before but can't remember where).
It was also a turning point for Petyr. He seems unaware and even claims to Sansa he had Catelyn. Even during it he calls her Cat before falling asleep. Since Lysa raped him while he was hardly conscious his mind clings to it being Catelyn. To him this now confirms his dream of being with Cat, which causes him to 'fight' Brandon. Now through Sansa he plays out both fantasies, of impregnating Cat and having a daughter ( helping her make the castle and literally making her play his daughter) and having Cat during both their youths.
So Sansa in both their minds is a continuation of Catelyn, which is why Lysa almost has to die for Sansa to live. No matter what Sansa does as long as Littlefinger is there and makes moves on her Lysa will never accept it. Sansa will always be a temptress by virtue of being Catelyn's daughter. And Lysa has murdered her husband for Petyr she cannot let Catelyn take her away from her again.
If the Father Above came down to offer him back his son or his hand, Jaime knew which he would choose.
He had a second son, after all, and seed enough for many more. If Cersei wants another child I'll give her one . . . and this time I'll hold him, and the Others take those who do not like it. Robert was rotting in his grave, and Jaime was sick of lies.
