Me: Mom, I think I am asexual, which means I don't have sexual attraction to anyone. Please don't say it's a phase!

Mom: don't worry honey, I won't, I live you no matter what!

-1 to 2 months later-

Mom: hey so when you are ready to have sex just let me know so that we can put you on birth control.

Me: *slightly annoyed face*

I love my mom to pieces, but she doesn't understand it just like most people. Parents, if your child tells you that they are asexual, please make a bit of a stride to understand how they feel. Sometimes comments that are meant to be supportive (of anything) can end up not giving the intended message.
