‘Toiles de Jouy’ simply means cloth from Jouy, a town near Paris. These textiles were all the rage in 18th century France, where textile makers borrowed methods of printing patterns on cotton used in India. They often included scenes of aristocratic daily life, but for this post we’ve mostly concentrated on some of the more abstract designs, and a contemporary interpretation of the style.
