I find it super weird how normal it is for grown ass people to describe sex scenes between teens in their books. I don't want to be the morality police here, but like, would it kill you to age em up a bit?
I don't know if this is still a thing in YA books (I think the very popular series fourth wing has 20 year olds which is fine) but the books I enjoyed as a teen were filled with steamy/suggestive scenes between teens. And like. I mean why are you as a 36 year old woman writing about 16 year olds fucking. It's weird. Make them 20 or 21. If you want your character to be in their teens, describe sex in a way that isn't crass. I think Cassandra clare's way of handling it is especially weird, how she'll publish little extra hot sex scenes that arent in the book. Like dude theyre 16. I just hate they're sexualizing teens for a profit.
And look, I get it, I was 16 too once and I wanted to read about other 16 year olds like me having sex, its natural, but I still think that ......... idk.....its weird. If someone has a better counterargument Im all ears. I would love to know somebody else's opinion on this
Also disclaimer I know its not just the YA industry that profits off sexualizing teens, it's the entertainment industry as a whole.
