Jake’s mom hated you.

She despised you too much and she wasn’t even trying to hide her feelings towards her youngest son’s girlfriend. She thought you were pure evil. She thought you were the reason behind every filthy thing that crossed his good Christian boy, Sim Jaeyun’s mind. 

She rolled her eyes at the two of you every time she saw her son kissing you goodbye. Her blood started boiling when she saw her son come down for breakfast with his neck covered with hickeys which were your work of art. You weren’t even ashamed of what you were doing. She always realized the little smirk on your face every time she looked at you with furious eyes.

This thing that started with him helping you with your Physics class turned something more pretty fast. Jake's mom sensed something odd every week you came over and you two head to his room. Her worries were proven right when she caught Jake wearing your pink, shiny lip gloss on his lips after your very productive seventh study session. She hated seeing you in their house ever since. That’s how you and your study buddy started sneaking around.

jay watched you take a step towards him to be closer to his body. he felt his body getting tense at your close proximity as you tiptoed and put your small hands on both sides of his shoulders. you had the strings, like always.

you were dragging him in deeper with your every move. it was impossible for him to not fall harder at this point. here he was, at the age of nineteen, learning how to love someone from the same girl who taught him how to ride a bike when he was seven.

when jay first stepped a foot into the kindergarten, the first thing he heard was your voice giving orders to the other kids about the game you were playing with them. you stood out from the others even when you were barely talking with a proper grammar.

not so long after that, jay learned that you lived in the same neighborhood as him. you started playing with each other after going to the same parks every weekend. you were basically joint by the hips by the time you were seven years old.

however, things took a shift when you got your first bike. you rode the bike almost everyday, and to everywhere. you also made new friends who liked riding bikes too. oh that made jay furious. you found new friends and one of those friends happened to be a guy who was able to ride a bike, which he couldn't. his childish jealousy made him go to his mother and ask for a bike.

after he got himself a nice baby blue bike, he realized what he was getting himself into. he had to learn how to ride this thing. it was something new and jay did not like trying new things. he was easily scared and getting hurt was not something he was looking forward to.

luckily, his new bike had training wheels on it. he rode the bike to your house and knocked on your door. your mother opened the door and smiled when she saw jay.

"hey mrs. l/n, is y/n home?" he asked curiously.

"yes, let me call her downstairs for you jay. do you want to wait inside?"

"i can just wait over here... i was actually going to ask her to go to the park together"

here's the thing: you were determined to protect jay from everything once you became his best friend. this included rude kids who made fun of him for riding his bike with training wheels.

"jay is still a baby who can't take his training wheels off" mocked the kid who was in the same school as you guys. after taking a glance at jay's sad face, you were determined to teach him how to ride a bike without its training wheels on.

you pulled his bike's training wheels off on a sunday morning after his embarrassing encounter at the park. you checked your pockets one more time to make sure you had bandaids ready for his soft hands which might get hurt that day.

jay park was not sleek at all. you knew your best friend like the back of your hand. he liked you. however, you knew how much of a coward your best friend was. you knew you had to out your walls down and make the first move. so you did.

your lips barely touched his as you tiptoed in front of him. he stared at your lips with so much longing behind his eyes like he had been waiting for this moment for so long.

“man up park jongseong. i don’t have enough time or patience” you whispered onto his lips, making him grin at your teasing.

he closed the distance between your lips as you both smiled into the kiss.

Your eyes followed the cute guitarist of the school’s popular rock band when they made their way on to the stage at the annual spring festival night.

Kim Sunoo. He looked so good with his freshly dyed hair and well-done eye makeup. He looked amazing and it really did not help with your growing love for the school’s pretty punk boy.

Everyone thought he was unapproachable. His group of friends -bandmates- looked extremely intimidating and the music they made sounded “emo” to other, so they thought Kim Sunoo and his friends were too cool for them. But you knew him better than them. 

You caught him feeding the stray cats from time to time when you were walking home after spending hours at the local library. You also saw him pushing the swings for the little kids at the park nearby your school. It amazed you how someone so scary to others can look so gentle and caring in your eyes.

He loved how you looked at him. He liked to be someone’s “soft boy” when he was not viewed like that by the other ones around him. 

Your eyes followed him as he grabbed his guitar and took his place on the stage. You watched him for so many times: at the local diner where his band performed twice a month, at the festivals which took place in your town, at the christmas concerts, at the parties, and sometimes by the campfire where he sang softly only for you... Yet it still astounded you how he looked so carefree, so passionate when he did the thing he loved the most.

You got out of your bubble of thoughts when the girls in front of you screamed at the way he put his guitar’s pick between his teeth and started playing the guitar with his delicate fingers. Everyone here was crazy over him, including you.

Watching him scanning his eyes over the crowd to find you gave you an indescribable joy. All these girls and boys would die to be able to spend five minutes with him, yet he was reserved for you only. He gave you a wink once you made an eye contact, causing you to smile brightly.

After the end of their performance, you watched Sunoo go to the back of the stage with his band members. You made your way to where he was, probably waiting for you. You were searching for his face between so many people who were in a hurry for the preparation of the next stages.

You were surprised when someone pulled you back from your waist, and the next thing you know was that you were pushed against a wall with a hand covering your mouth, facing Sunoo. You would leave a terrified scream if he did not cover your mouth in the first place and your heart was beating rapidly by the shock he just gave you.

You removed his hand from your lips and slapped his shoulder in a protest.

“Are you crazy? I almost died” you exaggerated. Putting his hands on your waist, Sunoo waited for you to steady your breath.

“Yes, crazy over you” he replied with his healing smile adorning his face. You scoffed at his lame attempt at flirting with you. One of his hands reached up to brush your hair from your face. You anticipated his kiss when the distance between your lips shortened by every passing second. 

“Hey, we’re going to the after party! Are you coming?” you heard one of Sunoo’s members ask, ruining your moment with your soft boy. His hands were still holding you when he turned his head a little bit.

“I think I’d rather be here for a little longer”

A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.

There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.

There is no plan.

Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.

Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.

We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.

This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.

We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.

People are dying.

People are dying.

People are dying and there is no plan.

More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.

My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.

Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.

But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.

She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.

So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.

Jay hated the quarantine. He hated all the days he had to stay away from his girlfriend and all the times he had to cancel his plans due to COVID-19 restrictions. What he hated the most about this whole thing was the fact that it didn’t come to and end by the time your birthday came around.

Despite being a talkative person, Jay showed his love through his actions, not by his words. He wanted to do something special for your birthday in hopes of pandemic being over by the time your birthday comes, but it didn’t. He wanted to close your favorite restaurant or maybe take you to a fancy rooftop bar where you could watch the city and eat good food. Since the city was in a lockdown, his plans were ruined. He had to come up with another plan, so he did.

A week prior to your birthday, he asked his mother to teach him how to cook your favorite meal. His mother was very emotional seeing her son care so much about his significant other. He had to deal with his mother’s emotional breakdown for about 10 minutes before getting down to business. After 2 hours of hard work and his mother’s scolds, he perfected the recipe.

His parents were visiting his grandparents on the day of your birthday: coincidence? I don’t think so. He set the table ready for two, cooked everything -including the desserts- and got ready before you arrived in front of his doorstep.

He texted you telling you to get ready for some “fancy outdoor stuff”. Though you were confused since everywhere was still closed, you still put one of your silk dresses and high heels on before showing up at his door.

You were staring down at your shoes when Jay opened the door, causing you to look up. He looked so handsome in his dress shirt, his hair done perfectly. You smiled at your pretty boy before he let you in.

“Welcome my lady” he said cheekily before taking your coat, and offering you some hand sanitizer. You giggled after he reached for your sanitized hand and lift it up to his lips to leave a kiss on it.

“Hi baby” you greeted him, tiptoeing to connect your lips with his. He smiled into the kiss before pulling away to hold your hand. He dragged you to the living room where he replaced the couches with a table for two. The room was filled with little candles here and there, just like how your favorite restaurant looked before when you visited there with Jay before the closures started.

Your surprised face made Jay so proud of the work he has done in the living room. He put his hands on your waist to pull you closer to his side as you stand in the doorway of the living room.

“Did you do all of this?” you questioned, holding yourself from getting too emotional at the sweet gesture. He nodded and caressed your hair before pulling you closer for a longer kiss this time. He cupped your face when he pulled away to whisper “Happy Birthday love” on your lips.

The sound of the birds coming from outside of your wide tent woke you up. You opened your eyes slowly and met with the sight of Jake’s chin since he was still sleeping with you laying on his chest.

You and your boyfriend were at a camping trip with your boyfriend’s best friends for the spring recess. You arrived at the camping site a little earlier than midnight, last night. Everyone was so tired from the long road trip to the camping site, so you all went to sleep not long after you arrived. You were staying in the same tent as Jake and Layla while Sunghoon and Jay stayed in the other one.

You moved your feet slowly under the blanket, causing Layla to wake up from her sleep. You watched her come closer and sniff your face. You smiled when she laid next to you. You broke away from Jake’s hold to hug Layla to your chest instead. As you were about to fall back asleep, you felt Jake’s arms sneaking around your waist from behind you.

“Are you seriously replacing me with my dog?” he asked, whispering in your ear. You laughed at his words before he kissed your cheek, causing Layla to look up at you guys.

“Not my fault she is cuter than you” you replied with a half smile. He hugged you closer and kissed the back of your head.

“Can’t argue with that” he whispered back before falling asleep with his two favorite girls sleeping next to him.
