The thing about the tea party is Neo is obviously projecting.

The illusions are saying things Neo wants to say to RWBY, the pictures on the walls aren’t direct memories, their reconstructions meant to show an event in an understandable way, not an accurate one.

It’s all this projection, Neo saying all of her thoughts in rapid, furious anger.

Then Penny talks to RWBY:

“Do you know what it feels like to be failed by the person you love most in the world?”

This? This is much different. In a sea of angry projection this is… emotional. Thought out. Painful. Did Neo sit down and write that line? It hurts, but it doesn’t exactly fit Ruby’s situation with Penny, not really.

But you know… Roman loved Neo most in the world.

But Neo didn’t make it back to him. She didn’t protect him. She wasn’t there when he died. Didn’t manage to stand by him, even when she swore she would, even when he would have stayed with her.

She failed.

She failed the person who loved her most in the world.

I love how this parallels are so similar and yet so different.

The first one is the more similar and obvious (same pose, cape flying in the same direction, etc.), just the hood being down, but the second? The second is the one that is making me go crazy.

All of it screams "it's the same but it's different" and I love that! The schyte is on the opposite side, with the blade pointing up instead of down, and even the shot is different, no more frontal but partially from the side!

Ruby is still the same, but she's also changed. She still holds the same goals and believes, but she had a lot of experiences which she learned from. In other words, she grew up.

I am so proud of her.

She's got the power of anime and mental health on her side

I don't understand who I need to... be. Because who I am right now, she's not cutting it.

What if you could be anyone?

It's all so... heavy. And it never, ever goes away. The feeling of not being... enough.

Can you feel the woman who might hold it? The weight of who she is?

Ruby spent her entire life trying to be like her mom, and feeling inadequate because she's not living up to Summer's memory. So maybe she needs to know the weight her mother carried with her to truly understand they are probably more similar than she thinks. Her mom isn't this unattainable standard. She was just a girl, like Ruby, with similar doubts and responsibilities.

Only then might Ruby really be able to step out of her mother's shadow and become who she was really meant to be.
