Heroes at the watchtower: Why are they staring at each other? I hope they get along..
14-year-old Danny in his adult ghost king form:
14-year-old Billy in his adult Shazam form:
Zuko's always had weird dreams.
He's in a small Fire Nation village, but there's other benders present. Sometimes he's playing with another boy, an Air Bender, who in his dream he just knows is his best friend. In those dreams, his name is Kuzon, his best friend's name is Aang, and he lives a simple but happy life.
In those dreams, his favorite ones are when he and Aang went to go find dragons and fought off poachers. The adventures they'd have were the kind he could only partake in in the comfort of his dreams.
Then he wakes up, and has to face the crushing expectations of his father. After that fateful Agni Kai, the only difference is that he wakes up to those expectations while on a ship.
But in the South Pole, there's a flash of light. A flash of hope.
He finds the avatar.
He's knocked down the "wall" to the small village, has the people properly scared so that none of them will attack and force his hand, and...he knows that kid.
He knows that kid.
"I'm the avatar, so you can-"
"Aang?"
The Fire Bender Prince and the Avatar stop. They stare at each other.
Zuko, internally, is having a crisis.
Because how could he justify to his uncle, not to even start mentioning his father, that the avatar is his dream best friend?
The dreams, the...the memories, of his times with Aang, are conflicting with his current duties as a Prince of a nation.
Does he help the avatar escape because of some stupid dreams?
Does he follow his father's orders?
The avatar, Aang, is getting closer and squinting at him, his eyes and tattoos flickering a strange blue light. Zuko's men don't know what to do. Uncle has dropped the tea he'd carried out of the ship.
"...Ku...zon?" Aang asks hesitantly, seeing something that, apparently, only he can.
He and the avatar stare at each other, lost.
Two friends, a lifetime apart, and they're on opposite sides of a field that hadn't even existed when they'd last seen each other.
Bruce âSad Wet Cat of a Manâ Wayne meets Danny âSad Wet Cat of a Teenagerâ and immediately adopts him. A prompt? A fic starter?
ââ
This was pathetic, Bruce groused, wringing his cape under the mostly effective shelter of an awning. Amityâs rain was somehow more potent than that of Gotham and it managed to soak the waterproof fabric of his cape. This was not scientifically possible.
Bruce refrained from giving into the urge of slamming his head backwards into the wall.
âYouâre new in town, arenât ya?â
Bruce subtly startled, head swiveling over to the presence he somehow hadnât detected. His heart gave a little squeeze- and, uh oh, thatâs the squeeze he got when he adopted his kids. Bruce was self aware enough to see where this was going, but as usual, he was helpless to stop it.
Batman slightly dipped his head. How did the child know?
Like he read his mind, the teenager nodded. âYou look like it. We know everyone in Amity. And youâre new. Tourists.â He chuckled, brushing the weird rain out of his hair. âAnd, youâre soaked.â
âThis is waterproof,â Batman growled.
âYeah, in other places of the world, maybe,â At Bruceâs questioning look (not that anyone other than liminal could have figured out his friendly intentions via the scary glare he had on), the kid elaborated further. âbut you didnât get Amity-made textiles. Theyâre made to last in any weather.â
âThis is rain.â
âEcto-contaminated rain, yeah.â The kid sighed, one hand absently fluffing up his hair and getting rid of stray green-tinged water droplets. âIâm Danny. I guess Iâm your Amity tour guide today.â
Well, Bruce wasnât the type to turn down an advantage. If this was a trap one of his enemies made for him to stumble into, Bruce had to admit it was well made and well researched. He never could turn away kids, especially ones that had that edge of work weary exhaustion to them like Danny did.
Danny, as expected, tried to fill in the silence. Alfred's technique always worked. Even on Bruce himself.
"This is the mall, by the way. It's dead right now because you're here on a Wednesday during school hours." Danny smirked to himself.
"Why are you not in school then?"
"It's called skipping. Or, for you, I guess it'd be 'playing hooky,'" Danny sassed, making quotation marks with his hands. He was exactly like Dick.
Bruce felt his heart melt. Oh no. Alfred was going to be mad again. But... it was for a good cause! And besides, what are the chances that Danny'd be a crime fighting vigilante? Can't be that high, right? (Bruce conveniently avoided the fact that statistically, the chances of him adopting baby vigilantes were pretty much at a hundred percent success rate.)
"Hng." He grunted. Danny rolled his eyes. Like Jason and Damian and Stephanie. "Where are your parents?"
He had to get the important stuff squared away first.
Danny shrugged. "Come on. There's a fabric store that way. We'll make you a rain guard first so your stuff doesn't get wet."
Ah, classic avoidance. Danny sure reminded him of Tim. Bruce inclined his head. "Lead the way."
