ATLA AU book one: water (1/?)

A little Izumi approached her dad and her aunt and uncle. Apparently Sokka (her dad),was getting tea with his father in law uncle Iroh. With one question on her cute innocent mind. "Papa,auntie,uncle Aang." She bowed despite not needing to. She was to polite for her own good. Aang chuckled. Zuko smiled. "What is it,Turtleduck?" Katara lifted her up and put her on her lap,while Aang pat her her head.

"I had a question. All my friends have grandparents,do I have any?"

A jolt went up Zuko's spine. Perhaps it was heaven sent? Hell if she was dead in Zuko's opinion. Aang stood there nervously. While Katara tried to come up with a response. "Uh," Katara chuckled nervously. "Well,sweetie..." Zuko took a nervous sip of tea to try to calm himself down.

"And what was Azula like when you were children,papa?"

Zuko spat his tea out and coughed aggressively. Aang stood up to try to help him. Katara waterbend it out of the ground,while Aang tried to slap Zuko's back,rather hurting him instead.

"Well,auntie Azula is good now."

"Was my grandpa a good father?"

Zuko was on the ground,if he wasn't he would be laughing at this ridiculous suggestion. Katara decided to take initiativ.

"Long ago-"

"THERE WERE AWFUL AND SHITTY PEOPLE!"

They turned around to see Sokka standing next to Iroh. Aang swiftly covered Izumi's ears.

"Hi? I'm right here you know?" Azula stated from the back. Chuckling to herself. She walked over to Izumi and took her into her arms. "Good job."

Bonus:

Izumi sat in her papa's lap. "Okay,I'm going to teach you something very important. Alright,repeat after me. Azula always lies,Azula always lies." "Azula always lies."

Azula and Katara peaked through the door,an offended Azula next to a smug,teasing Katara.

Iroh and Aang were lecturing Sokka,that as Izumi's dad,he shouldn't curse in front of her. Albeit,Iroh, slightly kinder than Aang. Toph was laughing her ass off.

ATLA AU idea: Gyatso catches Aang before he leaves, but since tbh it sounded like Gyatso was planning to run off with Aang anyway, he tags along and subsequently gets frozen alongside Aang and Appa

i don't think I can give a super coherent explanation for this rec, but i can try— avatar TLA holds a special place in my heart, and this fic was everything i love about it. poetic, ripped my heart out, and yet i read the whole thing in one night and could barely function on like 2 hours of sleep after it. this is definitely one of my favourite fics of all time, and i'm not sugar-coating it.

summary:

The Avatar, by now, should be nearly three years old. The Avatar should be an earthbender, first. The Avatar should have eyes that Jimin convinces himself that he could know—will know—with nothing but a look.

Years after losing his best friend to an attack on the Order of the White Lotus, Jimin finds the Avatar.

Can we have an intro script for Avatar but instead of Katara, we have Zuko narrating?

I was actually just thinking about this the other day, anon!! I bet I can draft something up real quick!

FIRST CHAPTER NARRATION:

Long ago, the Fire Nation lived in peace and prosperity.

Then, everything changed when my great grandfather tried to share that prosperity with the rest of the world, and the Air Nation attacked.

While my great grandfather won that battle, the Avatar - an Air National, the master of all four elements, and the most deadly threat to the Fire Nation - somehow managed to evade him, and vanished.

Nearly a hundred years have passed since then, and the Fire Nation is now nearing victory in the war. My father, the new Fire Lord, has tasked me with finding and capturing the Avatar.

This is my destiny, and the only way I can restore my honor and return home.

POST-ZUKO REDEMPTION NARRATION (aka the normal show intro version):

Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop the my people’s tyranny. But when the world needed him most, he vanished.

Nearly one hundred years passed, and my uncle and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang.

Through his friendship, Aang helped me open my eyes to the things I was blind to. Now, my uncle and I are going to help him defeat my father and save the world.

There you have it lol. I literally just thought these up over the span of the past 20 mins, so sorry if they’re not the best 😅

I am seriously considering going back to the very first chapter and adding that first narration to the beginning of it now… hmmm…

And then, Katara is such an amazing Avatar that the spirits decide the next Avatar will also be a waterbender.

Everyone finds this pretty logical. Even when said next Avatar is born before Katara dies. She was talking about how she wanted to retire and settle down somewhere quiet, those last few years.

Avatar AU where Aang stays in the iceberg and Katara is mistakenly believed to be the Avatar after she “earthbends” a rock by moving the ice inside it.

Instead of telling the truth and letting everyone down, she and Sokka pull on an elaborate charade and go on a journey to convince the world that the Avatar is back.

I don't like "The Runaway" episode. Imho this is a very strange plot, pulled out of thin air. And most importantly, it ignores Toph's really interesting conflict that could have developed her character.

The episode begins with Toph and Katara fighting over their differences. The most disgusting thing here is not even that their quarrel was taken out of nowhere, but a flashback to previous episodes. The authors based the series on the misunderstandings between Toph and Katara at the beginning of their relationship, completely ignoring their subsequent beautiful friendship. Not only did they throw out Katara's concern for Toph in the desert and their time together in Ba Sing Se, but they also pretended that this particular episode resolved all the misunderstandings, which means it was important. This is ugh.

Do you know what I would do instead of this unnecessary quarrel? I would finally resolve the misunderstanding with Aang that has been going on since the episode “The Desert”.

Remember when Aang blamed Toph for getting Appa stolen? Why not resolve this obvious and hanging misunderstanding? I mean, Aang and Toph don't talk alone at all after that episode, and that's bad.

A dedicated episode about their relationship would have filled that gap nicely and would have also strengthened the characters' bond.

Also, it's in this episode that I would show how Toph learns sandbending. Imagine the conflict that could have arisen: after losing Appa in the desert, Toph realized that she isn't such a great earthbender, because there are things that are beyond her control. She hates feeling inferior, especially when that deficiency caused her to lose a friend.

The sand is too loose, she loses its sight as soon as she lets it go. And the only one she can turn to for help is Aang.

Think about it, why are the dunes in the desert so mobile? What spreads sand and makes it so unstable? The answer is the air. To bend the sand, Toph will have to turn to the opposite element and to the one with whom there was no time to resolve the issue: Aang. And all this is connected not only with her desire to get rid of the imperfections of her bending, but also with the goal of never losing friends again and always being able to help them. And also finally make peace with Aang, her very first friend.

Imagine how Aang would teach her to feel the sand in the air. How, for example, she could see the currents of the wind... How the grains of sand would become her guides into the gaping void above her head that Toph had never seen before.

What wonderful emotions we would witness. The blind girl finally saw what was unattainable even with earthbending. I'm sure it would greatly impact Toph's personality and expand her understanding of things, and I want to experience it with her.

If there is a fanfic about this, I'd like to read it. Because the canon, alas, has lost all possibility of implementing something like this. After all, Toph learned sandbending off-screen, as if there was no emotion associated with it

Got a sad one here, Azula reaction to learning Zuko died? e.g it's not even her fault, the gaang have to tell her, he just - - didn't make it through one of their adventures. How hard does that hit her?

Hii! So I FINALLY did this request after awhile because I was struggling so much with it 😭

I think Azula would first see it as a victory but later when she's alone she would break down

I wanted to make a fully rendered piece but I ended up just coloring sketches instead so I’m genuinely so sorry if that’s not what you wanted
