Spy x Family workbook scans - part 1

The Spy x Family workbooks are a series of Japanese books for helping children learn. There are three total as of now: one for English, one for programming, and one for drawing. I wanted to get the books not just because they're good Japanese practice, but because they feature original illustrations of Anya and the other SxF characters in adorable chibi style ❤️ I'll be sharing some scans from each book, starting with the English one.

First off are the character bios. I find it hilarious that the book mentions Yor's job as an assassin...not a word I'd expect to find in a children's book 😅

The book goes through the different letters of the English alphabet along with sample words featuring the SxF characters, like "B" for "Bond" and "A" for "Anya." I didn't scan all 26 letters, but here are some of my favorites!

Both Loid and Damian are having such lavish meals, lol. Also Henderson gets "E" for "elegant" of course.

I love how Bond looks so worried about Yor's cooking 😂

My two favorites of these, "Father" and "Mother" of course~

And two of the weirdest ones, Yuri and a giant gorilla for "G" and Franky fishing an octopus for "O." Kinda random, lol.

Next are some activity pages, like a maze and common phrase practice.

I gotta say that despite this book being aimed at young children who probably aren't hardcore SxF fans, it tries to feature even obscure characters like the Forgers' neighbors, the lady from the tailor shop, and Martha. Kudos to the book authors for trying to be as faithful to the SxF universe as possible!

The book even adapts a couple of already established illustrations, like the below one that's similar to the Boss Coffee collab.

Also this one that's similar to the extra Endo illustration for chapter 36!

Headcanon: Roy Mustang loved to brag about Edward, in the same way Hughes loved to brag about Elysia, but he did it so subtly only Hughes and Hawkeye noticed.

listen, evil Hughes pains me, but i was inspired by evil super man, and Hughes is such a Clark Kent so it hurts but fits so much 🥲

Maybe Roy never got the news of Meas dying because the kidnapping And the killing happened at the same day? Idk my brain is not working with me rn. But you are right, that way, no one might know that Meas died and everyone is thinking that the besties are together in a mission and then Riza comes and is like, “ and none of you heard of them in how long??” and everyone feels guilty and then she and the Elrics somehow get in contact and bam?

BUT PLEASE KNOW THAT I LOVE YOUR IDEA SO MUCH!! just gotta find a motive for the sins to kidnap Roy And not one of the other sacrifices 🙂‍↕️

OR

maybe Maes and Roy did go together on a mission originally and on the way there Meas was murdered and Roy was kidnapped?

Madam Christmas is mostly just built on my headcanons 💀 people often forget how much potential she has besides her being a way to give Roy info

AND FOR THE AL AND ED TRYING TO BREAK THROUGH TO ROY! Here is an idea about when they realized that Roy wasn't 100% with them:

Edward watched as the man he just murdered- murdered!- fall slowly to his side, as a pool of his Dark blood started to spread under him. The alchemist felt his body shake. With rage? With anger? Fear or shock?

He didn't know what happened, he faintly remembered the colonel being on the ground not moving as that bastard beating him up and- wait, colonel!

The boy turned to see his brother hovering over the chains and shackles that adorned the skinny bruised ankle and wrists, the man’s shallow face was painted in ugly bruises and thin long lines of dark browns and reds, “ big brother?” Alphonse asked worriedly, his soul eyes slightly shifted to the dead body, “ how is he?” noticing how his older brother talking, he got the hint that he didn't want to talk about it now, hopefully, they’d be able to talk about it later.

“ he seems alive, but severely injured.”

“ hm, it's good that we took uncle yuri’s old car then.” As Ed mumbled that last line he started to examaine the older alchemist, as his younger brother undid the chains.

Their action might have caused loud noises, because the colonel started to stir slowly, and squeez his already closed eyes tighter, “ please.” his voice peeped horssly almost not hearable, “ no more… i swear i don't know… please.”

It was strange, hearing the man that they looked up to sound and look both weak and, well, pathetic In a way.

“ Oi colonel bastard, it is us, Ed and Al.” Ed said as he inched closer to the man who slowly, opened his dark eyes. Al watched as The dark and clouded pupils still at their sight, and for a moment, he felt that maybe they weren't late.

But, much like many other things in the Elrics’ young lives, their spirit came crashing the moment Roy whispered, “ who… are you? I swear i know nothing, please! Please… please don't hurt me more.”

Angst is my middle name 💅🏻

also Ed would never in a hundred years admin it that he is cuddling Roy to calm himself down, he is just a tiny guy who needs to feel his dad alive under “ helping him jeep warm” excuse haha

Gonna be real, but i cannot stop thinking about recovery fics and how beautiful they are. They are amazing, the way we see the character gets better always just makes me feel so inspired, the way that they learn to get over- or get around- the thing that hurt them. The way that they learn to be alive and living. How to love themselves and embrace what happened to them.

As much as i love these types of fics, i only wrote like, two maybe? With this idea (I love and have written torture more than recovery) . And it got me thinking… why not write a whole recovery fic?

It is no secret that i love parental Roy and Riza to the Elrics, and how they take him after he was being hurt and help him recover and be better and feel better.

BUT

But.

I am proposing another idea. Same child parent dynamic. Roy And the Elrics. Here is what i am thinking:

Evil Millirty hating how good and you Mustang is and they know he is a threat + them setting up to kidnap him by evil gang or something + team Mustang for some reason not being that loyal in finding him + Elrics stop their red stone research and to find their missing dad CO+ THEM SAVING THIER ADULT + FAMILY DRAMA AND PROTECTIVE SONS™️= my new fic idea

Which has traumatized Roy who is trying his best not being so traumatized but in the middle of it all, the Elrics discover How badly hurt thier adult is!

NOW, moving on to the questions!

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

Ed and i have lots of similarities, and they were pointed out by you most of the time. besides us being the oldest siblings in the family and being a mama’s child ( him being a mama’s boy and me being a mama’s girl.) we also share the long hair in braids deal.

Ed Is smart and is gifted and loves books, and learning new things, and while I never like to sound as if I brag but i too, share these qualities with him.

Ed Is angry, and i hate to admit it, but i am also an angry person at times- promise i am working in being a better person in that aspect 🫣 my boy LOVES stew, i LOVE LOVE stew as well, both of us are protective of our people, and we will both make sure to give our 100% when it comes to helping people. If we can help we will 200% help as much as we could. Also there is the part where we both will stay up late to get things done 😭

I just feel connected to that fierce alchemist dude, but these facts are what came to my mind right now!

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

i hate when they just make him angry all the time for no reason? Or when they make him yell or be mean for no reason at times. I dislike when people call him shrimp when he is short or when he is cocky? He is brash don't get me wrong, but i dislike it when people make it his whole personality without looking at the whys of him acting that way.

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

that is an easy one 😌😌

As a teen, the most famous outfit is the red coat leather pants outfit, and many would say that Ed is a punk- but to me, Ed is more of street style aesthetic, leaning lightly to punk when it comes to fabric texture and colors, tho we do see him in different outfits throughout the show/manga that scream “ street fashion.”

When he is a young adult, Edward is basically the Human of dark and light academia aesthetic. Shirts, dress pants, coats and sweaters alongside The calm colors and calm fabrics. They all play in showing how calmer Ed became during his late teen years and into his young adult years.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

To me, i use Ed a lot to project who i am in fics. While still adding that Elric boyish ingredients when it comes to writing him,( that is of course if that portraying can be written in that specific plot. Not very Ed i wrote is a projection Ed don't worry!!!) Ed And i are alike, so it is so easy to write him. What i don't like is the same thing as what i dislike the fandom doing to him- angry and mean for No reason and when people call Him short. I don't know why people think it is funny to bully Someone when they clearly get upset 😭?

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?

same things as writing, but i also love seeing how people explore his character and what headcanons they give him, and often times i adopt those headcanons and evolve them to go with the characteristics that i give him.
