Especially since I donā€™t really post up a lot of stuff on my personal tumblr here :P. I wonder whatā€™s going on? šŸ¤” Anyway, thank you to all my followers and I would like to share more post with you guys soon.

My sister talks to me in this monotone, disinterested voice. It sounds frigid and gravelly as she delivers these clipped answers to me, but I can always catch a hint of impatient annoyance during those rare moments when we share a conversation together. As if Iā€™m a child she has to tolerate and she canā€™t wait for our conversations to be over.

I know she doesnā€™t respect me but it still hurts to hear her openly admit it to me. She didnā€™t even have the decency to look me in the eyes when she told me this. She was too busy playing with her new Nintendo Switch.

Sheā€™s 19 years old and Iā€™m 25, but I still donā€™t know what Iā€™ve done to make her hate me to such a degrading degree; She refuses to talk to me, refuses to listen me, refuses to even look at me when ever I try to include her into my life. Sheā€™s trying to erase my existence from her life as she ignores me everyday.

I told her that I donā€™t want us to be distant, I donā€™t want us to be such a broken family, but she just dismissed me with a shrug and a snide, clipped answer: our brother and our dog are enough for her. Iā€™m replaced by a dog. Iā€™ve been replaced by a dog.

I still love my sister. I admire her confidence, her intelligence, her unfiltered mouth. She enjoys so much freedom in her life without ever compromising her independence or submitting to authority. Sheā€™s always in control and if she canā€™t figure something out, sheā€™s undeterred. She never stops that vivacious way of living.

I try to respect her. I try to give her space. I wait for her to come to me and let her know that she can lean on me, no matter what. But Iā€™m tired of this indifference. Iā€™m tired of feeling like the dismissive employee she canā€™t wait to fire. Itā€™s hard being on the receiving end of this treatment, especially from family. Itā€™s nice to feel like she can rely on her big sister, but thatā€™s when she needs to find extra cash from somewhere.

I think, at this point, itā€™s better to be strangers with her than family. Sheā€™s always been nicer to strangers. Weā€™re already at that point and Iā€™ve just been slow with the uptake this whole time.

Pet Peeves #1

When I see aĀ beautiful and aesthetically pleasing looking book being photographed and posted on Tumblr, and I zoom in enough to read an awesome sentence from that book, (which gets me hooked by the way) but I canā€™t find the title or the author of the awesome book. Anywhere! Not even in the little notes that other people leave behind! Please, my fellow book lovers, end this torment! Give me more than a tempting image of a good book and page number. I would like to read it but I canā€™t unless you identify it! Thank you for reading my rant.Ā

Expanding My Booklist

I want to explain my title a little, about how I reached this point and how I now have a focus to all my ramblings from before. The one thing that hasnā€™t changed is the fact that I still love stories, from all kinds of mediums, and I love how these stories can inspire to do so much with the right combination of words, scenarios, and characters. That, to me, is a magical experience thatā€™s just open to any audience and any interpretation.Ā

I want to dedicate this blog, the reviews, and my writings to the awesome classes and professors of Queens College. At the start of college, I was at a low place, overwhelmed by fears and insecurities, but after I entered Queens College, I realized that stories are not only my refuge but my passion. Itā€™s something that I want to pursue in the future. I may seem to be slow and fickle in the future, but Iā€™m just always surrounded by stories and I couldnā€™t ask for anything more. Except, you know, food, water, shelter, indoor plumbing, financial security, the internet, etc.Ā

At a greeting card store (Papyrus), Iā€™ve read that ā€œlifeā€™s not measured by comfort zones.ā€ Thatā€™s completely true! At college, even though I had this purpose and passion in my head, it was definitely reaffirmed by my college experiences. I not only have I met new people, they showed me new perspectives. All those books my professors required for me to read were an amazing surprise! I loved them and Iā€™m grateful that Iā€™ve discovered and read them (even if it was for an assignment). I still love my comfort zone; YA books will still be my favorite genre, but those nonfiction books, memoirs, plays, general fiction books that werenā€™t necessarily centered on a young protagonist, they were so provocative and a fresh, new, amazing reading experience! These showed me that even adults are developing and still trying to figure things out. All that uncertainty and frustration doesnā€™t always get left behind in our teenage years. Weā€™ve just gained some slight awareness and responsibilities. However, these books also showed how itā€™s okay to be lost. That, even then, we still have the time or something good can come out of our hesitation. Iā€™m even more grateful to my professors for introducing to me the parallels and connections literature has to our current reality. How literature, television, plays, movies, art, all these stories play a vital role in our culture: Theyā€™re our way of translating the world through our own perspective. They make connections that we havenā€™t even considered before. Life truly is the greatest inspiration which is why itā€™s so adventurous living in it.Ā

Thank you for reading this post! Thank you for your patience!Ā

Movie Review onĀ ā€œBaby Driverā€ (My I.R)

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā There are only a few times I walk out of a movie theater feeling good... This is the first time. I actually felt satisfied and happy about a movie after it was over.Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Exhilarating. Powerful. Amazing. Fun. Cool. This is only a small sample of adjectives I want to use to describe this movie. Watching it on the big screen was worth it, eating that awkward combination of dark chocolate and greasy, salty bag of bad popcorn with a huge ass screen towering over me. This experience completely transported me into the sexy world of driving, crime, passion, and drama.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Joe Wrightā€™s film will become a sexy summer time classic for years to come. It was in sync. Everything was a Ā well-choreographed dance, the music and fluid movement of each and every actor on screen just made the pace and tone of the movie so right that you hardly noticed the passage of time outside the theater. You absorb everything on that screen that you fall into the illusion that youā€™re actually in it, witnessing this masterpiece at first hand; an incredible experience of being there. It had all the twist and turns of a thriller, that adrenalineĀ shot of good chase scenes that the trailers promised (and more), the cute, touching, adorable scenes of romance between our two main love interests (without taking over the plot in order for it to be interesting), and yet thereā€™s that childish, devilish, mischievousness of teenage guts, glory, and freedom that everyone just wants to have but could only exist on a rush that Wright delivers.Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Even if what the main protagonist does is wrong (with Baby being a getaway driver and whatnot), you canā€™t help but cheer for him when he gets away. Even when he struggles (problems between moral dilemma and whatā€™s the right choice in a certain situation, not to mention trying notĀ to piss off some very dangerous people), you never see him hesitate as he jumps to the scene. Everything goes off like a gun, bam - bam - BAM!!

Ā Ā Ā Ā Baby (Ansel Elgort) isnā€™t afraid to be who he is -- itā€™s his advantage, his best weapon, his greatest play, and no judgment. Nothing to fear, nothing to feel sorry for. Even when he seems like heā€™s improvising, he knows all the right moves to play as he takes that stage. Heā€™s unbeatable when heā€™s behind the wheel and heĀ burns rubber on that smooth asphalt. Everything is constantly changing and moving, you never know who will be coming at you (the enemies and obstacles) or what consequences thereā€™ll be, but why should that stop you from living?Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Joe Wrightā€™s film was sexy, fun; felt a little old, a little new, part of it was like a monologue about a ritual/ routine, part of it was like screwing everything over and doing what you canā€™t. Even when it does get tense and a little gory (really scary that gun dealer scene but I loved that final showdown!) itā€™s a movie anyone would love. A movie where when thereā€™s a worldĀ of risks and opportunities and consequences, being a (lovable, playful) child and being a (hardass) adult go hand in hand. Overall, I will definitely give this movie a 5-star rating.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā If youā€™re reading this, find the closest movie theater and watch this damn movie (it could only be experienced on a huge screen). If itā€™s still there. Seriously though, go ahead and watch it, itā€™s alot of fun and what better way to celebrate summer (the season of freedom and Carpe Diem) than watching this movie and good company to surround you.Ā

P.S - A little note from me: I.R means initial response to the movie. I wrote this rough draft of this review like right after I stepped outside after it was over. I was bombarded with so many feelings that I didnā€™t want to lose them. If youā€™re waiting for an in depth analysis, covering more techinical detailed terms of the film, then youā€™re most likely gonna wait forever. (Maybe Iā€™ll do that when it comes out on DVD?) I love you my fellow movie watchers!Ā

Jeanne de Clisson (1300-1359): the Lioness of Brittany

More historical details and footnotes up later today when I have more time. The short version is: we know she existed, that she led forces against France, that she became a pirate, and that she was protected by England. The extent of her feats varies greatly based on the telling ā€“ estimates of the length of her career as pirate range between five months and thirteen years! ā€“ but whatever the heck she actually did left quite an impression.

And hereā€™s a quick link to buy the book!

OMG, Iā€™m just obsessing over this movie right now. My favorite movie of all time! I love concept art too! It tells us that ideas evolve and that first draft doesnā€™t have to be the end. Look how much revisions and hard work they got through before they reached that final version. Those of you who love this movie, you know what Iā€™m talking about!Ā

Hi Everybody!!!

Hi everybody!!!Ā

Good Morning! On my side of world, itā€™s a very beautiful day. I just finished writing the review for this book. Itā€™s on the blog previous to this one so, please, check it out! For those of you interested, this is what the book looks like:

Nice, right? And thereā€™s the bookmark I used. Isnā€™t it cute?Ā ā€œSmile every dayā€ - thatā€™s what it says. Well, actually, you donā€™t have to listen to the book mark, but you should because itā€™s great advice. If you check out this book, let me know so I can be happy about the word being spread.Ā

Enjoy!Ā

Review: The Writers Afterlife by Richard Vetere (This blurb is from goodreadsĀ but my review is after the line ;)

The Writers Afterlife is the story of Tom Chillo, a 44-year-old writer on the verge of fame, who suddenly dies of a stroke and finds himself transported to a place where all writers are sent after they die. After mingling with ā€œThe Eternalsā€ ā€” including Shakespeare, Wilde, Keats, and Tolstoy ā€” he discovers that his true peers in this new world are all haunted by the same regret: they never achieved the fame they felt they deserved during their lifetime. Thereā€™s still a chance, though. Every writer has the opportunity to return to earth for exactly one week and convince someone to set the wheels in motion to give their lifeā€™s work widespread notoriety. The trick is to come up with the perfect plan the first time. Failure is not an option. The Writers Afterlife is brimming with warm humor, New York street sensibility, and an underlying commentary about the drive for fame in contemporary culture. With a deft hand, Vetere explores the deceptions that people employ to achieve at all costs. A string of eccentric New York characters fly off the page and make for a striking, memorable book that is a delight to read.

This book was amazing! I enjoyed reading Richard Vetere's book, "The Writers Afterlife." As someone who mostly read Y.A. books, I'm used to over - the - top conflicts and characters who struggle with learning the process of growing up. But, with this adult fiction novel, Richard Vetere talks about how we still struggle and do our best to adapt even as adults, no matter what our age may be. What's best about this book is how brutally honest it is about the world. It doesn't fantasize or romanticize with a writer's life instead, it shows the struggles and risks a writer makes as they devote their whole lives to their passion and talent. For the most part of this book, I was anxious when I was reading it. I felt pure anxiety as I wondered if Tom Chillo could achieve his dream of his work being glorified and appreciated, especially now that he's gone. It wasn't like the kind of suspense you would feel in a mystery - thriller novel, it went deeper than that. Richard Vetere is spot on with our fears regarding the decisions we make, the results from our choices, and anxiety of waiting to see what happens next. He understands how life just keeps bombarding us with so many events that it's hard to keep up and easily be overwhelmed as everything happens all at once. This was such a difficult book to get through but it wasn't because it was bad, oh no, it was because it just forces the reader to take a look around as all of our fears and frustrations are being pushed to the surface. Through Tom Chillo, Richard Vetere teaches us life really is the most unexpected event that we can ever encounter, but so what? We will always be writers and we will always be a witness to this crazy world.
Yes, we can be stupid, we can be fools, and those doubts can really take control of us, but we're still hopeful creatures anyway. This book was still fun to read. Its tone was sarcastic, cynical, whimsical, doubtful, confused, honest, profound and hopeful. What I loved most was the way Tom Chillo, even though he did have a plan and used the experience and advice from other writers to help guide him to ever - lasting fame, he still improvised and did things his way. While he was constantly on the edge, with his head never really quiet, being jumpy for the next opportunity, and keeping his guard up for what's next, he still had time to have fun and enjoyed the people and his work that surrounded his life during his last week with the living. I think that's what makes this book so unique; the truth doesn't always hurt and reality can be as much fun as fantasy. Vetere did a really great job with his characters. There wasn't anyone who was one - dimensionally evil or annoying, he gradually, with good foreshadowing, gave us moments of vulnerability and how life can be so complicated even if we don't mean to be. Vetere didn't give us a character whom we can solely put the blame on, he gave us all these realistic conflicts that were genuine since you never know what will happen as you work with what you're given.
Personally, I enjoyed this book. Not only did it give us something to relate to like, "we're not the only ones who are dealing with this" but it gives us something to look forward to as the next day could possibly be better. Tom Chillo was the personification of the phrase "go big or go home" as every choice he made, some he had to make on the spot, he did it with conviction, he did it with some doubt, he did it out of a whim because it was funny, was all perfectly human for a ghost. I think if the author wants us to learn anything from Tom then it would be this: just be human and be proud of the work you've done. This can really help you be flexible and tough with whatever happens next. However, there were a few things that just bothered me while I was reading. First off, I felt like there was too much summarization. I mean, okay he wanted us to see the images and visions right away regarding the other writers in the afterlife, but it made me miss this elegant prose that I was used to. Secondly, there were moments where I wished he would just elaborate regarding other characters. Such as, he made them complex and vulnerable but I wanted to see how that happen and why! We were given some good foreshadowing and glimpses but that didn't seem enough for me, especially for characters like Jennifer and Allan Roth. They weren't just decoration to give flair to the conflict, they were more than that but we weren't given enough moments with them. Although we do get to see that they are fully human. I liked the tone as it was fresh and easy to go along, and I was so happy with the twist and turns of this book. While some of them were expected, I loved the execution of them. The ending was a little bit ambiguous and convenient, but like I said before, life is unexpected and take what you can. As a writer, adapting what's given to you is very useful but enjoying what's there is even better. It was so much fun and inspiring to know that our work can be appreciated and acknowledged in the long run. When it comes to talent: when it makes a statement, it makes a visible impact. And the best part is talent can be anything so ling as you have confidence and devotion to your work.

Ultimately I give this book 3 and a half stars but, seriously people, give it a try! You wonā€™t regret it!

Hey, Everyone! This was such an awesome movie XD - I canā€™t stop thinking about it! This was such a disturbing, provoking, psychological thriller and I loved how the conflict came from the protagonistā€™s inner self (like that dark side of human nature) and from the expectations and pressures from the dream she was trying to achieve and the obstacles that were surrounding her. Every shot was like ballet, perfectly executed, detailed, and planned. I would definitely recommend it and watch it over and over again. This may be an old movie, but that just proves how timeless it could be.Ā

Watch the ā€œBlack Swanā€ everybody! And if you did, let me know what you think of it!Ā

Stick around, my review is coming up soon.Ā

Most of us are just more comfortable around fiction than real life.

Richard Vetere,Ā ā€œThe Writers Afterlifeā€Ā

Hi, Everyone!!!!! I know this might be a little shocking - Iā€™m actually writing up a post! But, you see, I really wanted to do this. Itā€™s like that little feeling inside your chest that feels heavy until you hold your breath and let it all out in one post! Then you feel better! (Either that or I have heartburn). Anyway, this is a quote from a book that my screenwriting teacher wrote and finally published. Heā€™s really cool and so hilarious and sarcastic. So, if anyone is interested, I recommend that you check out ā€œThe Writers Afterlife,ā€ because itā€™s funny and has this angsty feeling that all future authors and writers could relate to. Ā Ā

Zootopia Shorts 5 is titled Judyā€™s Visit.

it takes place after the movie. Where she goes to visit Nickā€™s home since she never did saw it only because Nick was hanging around outside.

However because of the concept arts being posted on my blog I have seen what the concept of Nickā€™s room really is.Ā

This short will be all about that. I think I would prefer to stick with black and white comics from now on.

Iā€™ll post the short soon but not as a comic.Ā

Anyway donā€™t steal this please. Credit goes to me: @thephantombeyond do not edit or post this only reblog!
