As small fry, I’ll tell you I know everyone who regularly leaves kudos. I absolutely don’t think someone is weird if they kudo their way through my series. And I would kiss commenters on the mouth if I could.

This goes under the 'why Echo doesn't trust Cross and is mad at him' heading alongside 'actual Imperial Tech seems unlikely'.

Although Cross was all in on getting out of the torment nexus once it was within reach, there's the fact that he now gets to grapple with, okay so now what. He thought being with the Empire was the right thing, was the safe and if not good at least the smart thing. But it wasn't. So was he wrong about everything? About his squad, the war, ALL of it? Has he literally ever done anything right in his life, is he even capable of it? (Can he even shoot anymore with his hand tremor?)

He's going to be (once again) searching for stability, for a place to belong. And he'll probably get an offer from Hemlock, who of course had to let them go because of Omega. Now, though, Hemlock might be thinking 'Really this is okay, I have an in. A plant.' He'll make an offer to Cross, a tempting one. Hey come on back and we'll make you a commander again, give you a spot, etc, all water under the bridge.

And despite how it has to be a trap Cross WILL be tempted, until he finally comes to grips with himself and everything he did and didn't choose to do. This is why it's reasonable for Echo to distrust him; until Cross is offered the choice again and freely turns it down, no one can be sure he's really ready to move on.

This is also why (IMO at least) actual Imperial Tech (as opposed to Sneaky Undercover Tech) is unlikely. They're not gonna have Cross be distrusted by Echo only to have Tech show up brainwashed. That's just awkward and detracts from the focus of Cross' reintegration, turns it into Cross and Tech's reintegration. I mean, bad writing aside, obviously that's always on the table. But things have been so good in the overall, especially for Cross and Tech, I just struggle to see them fumbling that hard.

Cross's real redemption/atonement begins when he tells Hemlock no, of his own free will.
