So What? | MYG | Chapter11

By the time the hearing was over, it was past dinner time and everybody was exhausted. You were more than ready to go home and crash in bed, dreaming that this never did happen. You knew you needed to talk to Yoongi soon - preferably before the verdict, was Jimin’s answer to you when you finally confronted him head-on with the matter.

You looked over to see Yoongi yawning and nodding to something Joon said to him. You’ll have that talk tomorrow. Tonight, the two of you will just cuddle in bed for some well-deserved sleep.

“Remember the talk, Y/N.” Jimin reminded you as he dropped you and Yoongi off. “Don’t drag it on for too long.” He turned to Yoongi. “You were great today, man. See you on Thursday. Goodnight!”

The both of you waved Jimin off before entering your apartment building.

“What was Jimin saying just now?” Yoongi asked.

“Oh, nothing. We’ll sleep first. Today took out everybody’s brain cells already and we need them at full capacity if we want to talk tomorrow.” You reassured Yoongi. “It’s nothing serious.”

Except it was everything but not serious.

So What? | MYG | Chapter11

You got out of bed early in the morning, brain lagging from the lack of sleep. But you truly couldn’t sleep. Not when the possibility of everything going bad today was already a good reason. You were afraid to bring up the topic to talk to Yoongi. You had figured that he knew and didn’t want to tell you so you had given him some space and time but you were getting impatient.

Although, you did not fully understand the weight of mateship but you understand being true to oneself. And that was what you were going to do today. You were going to approach - not sure how, but you were going to do it - and have this talk before tomorrow. You wanted to clear the air before the verdict hearing in case of anything.

You knew that the possibility of Yoongi being a free hybrid after tomorrow was extremely high and at the same time, you wanted to see his point of view on the matter so that you could act accordingly during the hearing. You didn’t want to cause a scene when there was no need for one.

Whipping up a simple breakfast, you set the table in time when Yoongi came out of his bedroom, yawning.

“Smells good.” He plopped down on the chair.

Yesterday drained the both of you and you wanted some space and time to think alone so you chased Yoongi to his own room.

As you sat down, Yoongi was quick to pull you to his lap and buried his head in your neck. You let him be and started eating, occasionally sneaking him some bites from your own plate before bringing his plate over to feed him. You treasured the calmness of the current time, knowing that it would not last for long.

After breakfast, the both of you called in a lazy day, taking the blankets off the beds and cuddling in front of the television. You knew that you should start to talk before lunchtime so that if anything happens, you hope that you will have time to cool down.

You had truly hoped nothing would go worse than your imagination had taken you last night but it seems that your predicament was more than wrong, leaving you in the current situation. The both of you were fighting and screaming at each other, both sides trying to calm down but are as stubborn as mules.

“No, you don’t understand. It is not something to take lightly. A mateship is for a lifetime. It bonds the souls. You don’t understand that it is not something that can just be tossed around like that.”

“I am not tossing - if we are using your words - the title around. I am asking you why you wouldn’t tell me that I am your mate.” You tried breathing slowly. You didn’t want to get worked up in this situation where the air is already deadly. “I’ve waited! I’ve found out and waited for you patiently - that maybe you were not comfortable enough to tell me. But I’ve waited, Yoongi!

Yoongi kept silent.

“Why, Yoongi?” You started growing frustrated. You wanted - needed - an answer from him. Even if it is not an answer you want to hear, you still need an answer. You needed closure if this was not what he wanted.

You knew you weren’t the easiest to come around and you also knew Yoongi is stubborn. He always says that you deserve better - a better hybrid, a better life, a better everything. The both of you are hardheads, never backing down from a fight.

“I am asking you, why? I need an answer, Yoongi. This is not fair to me.” You pulled at your roots. You did not like confrontation and all you wanted to do was hide in the room right now. But you knew that this was a long overdue talk.

“Well, why do you think I never told you all these months then?” Yoongi suddenly turned to face you. “Why do you think I kept silent even when I found out? Why do you think I kept silent when I knew you found out?”

You didn’t want to say it. You truly hoped you were wrong - hoped that your intuition was just fooling you and he would say something else.

“Huh, why?” He screamed.

You flinched.

Oh, you have never heard Yoongi scream. You have never seen him so distressed and worked up. Half of you wanted to go over and comfort him but you stood your ground - stubborn as he is.

“Why?” You questioned. Your voice sounded meek even to your ears.

“You want me to say it? You want to hear it?” Yoongi’s hands were pulling at his hair. “Fine! I’ll say it for you, spell it out for you so accurately you will never think you misheard!” Yoongi yelled, ears flat against his head and tail swishing sharply behind his back. “Because I don’t want you! I. DO. NOT. WANT. YOU. AS. MY. MATE!” Yoongi roared. “Is that clear enough for you?”

It was silence after that revelation. You looked at Yoongi - really took a good look at the fuming male hybrid standing in the middle of the living room. His chest rose up and down in frantic motion, trying to regain his breath. You bored your eyes into his, finding the truth in there. A tear streaked down the side of his eyes and he used the back of his hand to wipe it away.

As you move forward, he moves backwards. Yoongi suddenly turned around snatched his collar off the hook and half-stepped into his shoes. “I’m leaving.” was all he said before slamming the door straight in your face.

You sucked in a deep breath. And another. And another. Until you felt like your walls were constraining, you raised a hand to beat the sofa. When that wasn’t enough, you screamed your lungs out, throat burning - but right now, who the fuck cares? It wasn’t until you lifted a hand to throw the key bowl did you stop and look around.

The dish where you put all your keys - or key-bowl, as you liked to call it - was made by Yoongi a few weeks ago when the both of you went to a pottery class. He gave it to you saying that you wouldn’t lose your keys as easily if they’re all in one spot. So no matter how much you wanted to smash it, you just couldn’t bring your heart to do it.

And you looked around. The whole house was filled with memories of you and him. Before him, it was just a shelter to you. A place where it can shield you from the harsh weather and the noise of the outside world. You were drowning in the world of an endless abyss that you didn’t know how to get out of. Until Yoongi came along. The ferocious, characteristic cat that you thought was just as it is. Your house started to feel a bit warmer - that you had someone to come home to.

And then the silence shattered once again when you found him so sick on your bed, bringing him to a vet only to realise he was definitely not what you thought he was. Slowly but surely, Yoongi opened up to you. Sure, both of you had ups and downs, but isn’t that normal for every relationship? The both of you grew with each other - or at least you thought so.

Now - now you were no longer sure who you were to and what you were to him. Standing in the middle of the living room where he stood just spare a few minutes ago, made your heart constrict so tightly you thought it was going to burst.

“I need to get out of here.” You muttered to yourself. “Leave, leave.” At this point in time, you couldn’t be bothered by the mess your house is currently in. “Keys, keys. Where are my keys?” You started to grow frantic. “Keys so I can leave. Leave, leave.”

You found your keys and yanked your jacket off the ottoman, shutting the doors behind you. If you were sober, you would have called Jin to pick you up. But you were anything but sober. Sober in the sense of alcohol, certainly not sober in the sense of emotions.

You turned on your car and drove it out of the parking lot below your apartment building, towards the direction of Seokjin’s house. Normally, Yoongi would play some music but this time, only your heavy breaths kept you company as you fought to stay calm.

Taking no less than 10 minutes to reach Seokjin’s complex, you parked your car and headed up to his house. You needed your brother and you couldn’t be bothered if he was sleeping, in the shower, or working. You needed him here, you needed him to keep you grounded with those stupid dad jokes he always makes.

You would have called Lils if she wasn’t halfway across the world visiting her relatives. You punched in the passcode to his house and entered, quickly shedding your shoes and coat. You looked up in time to see Seokjin coming out of his kitchen, a chopstick in hand and a mouth full of rice, saying, “I gave you the code not so that you can just barge in here like nobody’s business. Might I remind you that this house is still under my name, which means my rules -”

You slam your body into your brother’s, arms going around his waist as you bury your head in his chest. Realising that there’s more to what meets the eyes, Seokjin wrapped his arms around you, easily lifting you up and bringing the both of you to the couch.

“Hey, hey, what’s wrong?” He cooed, placing down his chopsticks and wiping your tears. You couldn’t answer him. You didn’t want to answer him - ‘cause if you did, it would be real.

Seokjin, sensing your discontent, sighed. He didn’t pry any longer, deciding just to let you cry it out. You were a sensitive soul, he knew. As much as you tried to prove to everybody that you grew out of it, he knew you best - and knew that you were just getting better at hiding your pain now. He wishes that you would open up more to him but you were big now and he knew that. He knew that some things needed to be learned through experiences.

So he keeps an eye out for you but does not linger too long. He saw the way you and Yoongi act together, he saw the way you looked at him on the witness stand yesterday afternoon. He had asked Jimin what he meant by ‘the talk’ and bribed him into giving him a piece of information. He didn’t know how crucial that was until you came in bursting into tears.

You had gotten attached.

But he wasn’t blind. He knew that your hybrid was attached as well. So why did it turn out like this? Why did he have to break your heart and not admit it? Seokjin didn’t want to pry too much, but he really wanted to understand. Exactly what happened?

“Come on, let’s get you washed up and into bed.” Seokjin sighed. He carried you to the bathroom, filling up the bathtub with warm water and put in a bath bomb and some salts. “I’ll be waiting outside for you once you’re done. Don’t take too long.” He left a set of clothes on the counter for you. He had saved some of your clothes with him for when you wanted sleepovers. Better than wearing his clothes.

Seokjin scrunched his nose.

Yeah.

Nope.

So What? | MYG | Chapter10

You knew what had to be done.

You knew that there was no way possible that you could stop or alter this flow of events. Even if you pray to every single god in this universe and more, it will never change. Some things were meant to go forward.

Hoseok and his team came back safely and the news of Robbinson’s capture is now plastered all over the news. Every reporter, news station, and radio station, was having a blast making money out of his capture. Hybrids that were associated with him and the facility are now slowly coming out. One by one, they gained the strength and courage to come forth and talk about their past trauma.

Once, you thought you would have all the time in the world for the one you love. Now… Now you were no longer sure. Being a free hybrid allowed Yoongi to do many things. Many, many things. He no longer needed to be tied down to you just because he was saved by you. Now, he can save himself and many hybrids out there. As much as you hoped the day wouldn’t come, it did.

There was no beating time.

You brushed his hair and groomed his ears, making sure that his shirt and tie weren’t crumpled before you left the house. Yoongi had asked you to be at the hearing with him and as nervous as you were, you weren’t about to tell him no. You could never tell him no.

Hoseok waited outside the door for the both of you. He drove the both of you to the courthouse, now waiting in front of many cameras and the tinted windows of his car, for the both of you to exit. You breathed in and took Yoongi’s hands. He was shaking as much as you were, perhaps even more. He was the one going up onto the stands today. He was nervous and had every right to be.

You, on the other hand, didn’t. So you breathed out and put on a mask. “We’ll be okay Yoongi. You’ll be okay. You’ll get through this.” You rubbed his ears. “Be strong, you’re brave. I believe in you.” You gave him a soft smile, hoping that it was enough to calm his overdriven nervous system.

And it did. Part of it. But it was enough for him to put on a brave face and step out.

Cameras flashed and microphones were shoved in front of him, every reporter for themselves. Yoongi cowered back, hyper senses going into overdrive. The both of you knew this would happen - you had warned him this morning as the both of you were getting ready - that something like this would happen. But none of you were prepared for such a big onslaught.

Gathering yourself, you grabbed Yoongi’s hand and pushed through the sea of reporters, quickly climbing up the steps as bodyguards started to surround.

“Please! Give us a statement! How do you feel going against him?”

“How well do you know Mr Robbinson?”

“How long were you in the facility? What happened to the rest of your batch?”

You pulled Yoongi into the designated waiting room, shutting the door immediately. Now, it was just the both of you in the room. You led Yoongi over to the couch, letting him scent you. Through the door, you could hear Hoseok’s muffled “We are not accepting any more questions! Please leave the premises or I will have you escorted out! This is a closed hearing!”.

For the safety and confidentiality of the hybrids, the court has called this a closed hearing, accepting no bullshit from the reporters and no leakages in the hearing to the public.

Yoongi’s breathing had calmed down, leaving him currently nuzzling your neck and purring. A knock sounded from the door before it pushed open, revealing Jimin, Jin, Namjoon, and Hoseok. The three of them entered the waiting room, closing the door behind them.

“You okay?” Seokjin asked.

You nodded.

Hoseok took out his phone and silenced them. “Phones please.” Everybody gave him their phones. Yoongi’s collar hooked onto your hair you turned, taking your phone from your bag. As you turned back, it yanked your hair against its roots, causing you to wince.

“Yoongi…” You sighed, giving his ears another rub. “Come on, we gotta go in.” Yoongi shook his head.

“As standard procedure, I am here to tell you that this is a closed hearing and no recording is allowed. Intermissions will be on every three hours. The total hearing is three days and the verdict will be given on the third, four hours after the final hearing. The hearing for today will be approximately thirteen hours. We will be attending today and the verdict hearing. ” Namjoon started. “Some rules of the courtroom - no foul language, no physical assault, do not act on your impulse and speak when you are not spoken to, and stand when the judge arrives. You are allowed to take notes using authorised devices and materials.” He looked up. “Except for Yoongi-ssi, myself, and with certain aspects of situations Jimin-ssi and Y/N-ssi, the rest of you are not allowed to address the court.”

Namjoon placed a folder in front of each of you. “This is a court hearing NDA*1. Read through it and if you do not have any problem with it, please sign on the lines.”

You picked up the pen and signed it. You have already read through this one as Namjoon was talking. To him, this is a Pro Bono*2 case, taken up from his assault on you. Namjoon crashed into your house when he heard what was happening. At that point in time, you were still in distress and had yet to process the information given to you. The hearing date was looming closer and you were having trouble finding a suitable lawyer for Yoongi.

That’s where Hoseok decided to stick his nose in your business. He knew you would be crumbling if you paid the amount that he overhead on a phone call. By no means were you poor, but you were not rich to that extent. Lawyers are paid by hours and for such a large case, you couldn’t handle lawyers specifically for hybrids.

So Hoseok went to Namjoon, telling him about your current - well, then - problem. Namjoon came over, giving you an earful with a promise that he would help out. Pitching the case to his firm, he managed to get a hold of a lease and perform the case. That is where it landed all of you today. Sitting in the courtroom, at the very left side, two rows away from both of them.

Hoseok was standing guard at the stands beside Yoongi and Namjoon while the rest of your friends and family sat beside you. Seokjin held your hand, softly caressing it. “It’s gonna be okay, it’s gonna be okay.” By now, that was your mantra.

It’s gonna be okay.

But sometimes, mantras aren’t enough to keep you grounded. The judge had asked you to go over to the witness stands and testify about the evidence that had been given by Namjoon.

You were trembling like a damn leaf that you swore you could’ve collapsed any moment then. But by some sort of miracle, you hadn’t. Yet. “When I first found Yoongi, I hadn’t known he was a hybrid. It was only when his withdrawal symptoms got worse and I brought him to see a doctor did I realise what he was.”

“And after that?”

“After that, the doctors and Hosoek-ssi informed me of the dangers of adopting Yoongii. However, I decided to go ahead with it.”

“Any forms of aggression from Yoongi-ssi, Y/N-ssi?”

You shook your head. “No. I fell ill in the first few weeks after I officially adopted him as a hybrid and even then he was patient with me. The next month or so, he did not show any signs of aggression either.”

The judge nodded. “Earlier you stated that you went on with the act of adopting Yoongi-ssi even after knowing of the dangers he holds and the possibility of getting you into much trouble like the one as of today. Might I question, why?”

“Sir, that is a personal question that -”

“Sit down, Lawyer Kim. You are not spoken to.”

The judge turned his attention back to you, brows raising in question.

You gulped. The answer you have known for a few days now but have yet to approach Yoongi. You knew that there was always - that there has always been something more than just an owner and hybrid relationship between the both of you. You had asked Jimin about it when he came over to grab some leftover pastries for him and Ji-Hyun.

So What? | MYG | Chapter10

“Hmm… Hybrids have such a thing called mates. It is similar to what humans like to call soulmates. But for hybrids, due to our genetic hypersensitivity, we feel more. As such, when mates are marked, we are able to feel our mates.”

“Feel what?” You had questioned.

Jimin shrugged. “Everything. Everything is heightened. We are hyper-aware of what our mates feel. Human counterparts don't get anything, of course.” He smirked. “But hybrids feel a lot more.”

You tapped the counter. “What if you aren’t marked?”

The question had thrown him off guard as he placed the box of pastries and tongs on the table and turned to you. “For what reason… Are you asking for?” He eyed you suspiciously.

You shrugged. “Just curious.”

“I can sense that this is beyond curiosity but I shall leave it as that for now. Whatever you’re scheming, faster finish it. I don’t want to be helping you aim for something that would hurt.” Jimin stated.

“I swear, please just answer that. It’s the last question.”

Jimin sighed, giving in. “Once the mate bond clicks into place, everything is already heightened. The hybrid-”

“How do you know it clicks into place?”

Jimin gave you the stink eye. “I thought you said that was the last question!”

“I’m sorry!” You raised your hands in surrender.

“The hybrid,” he emphasis on the word. “Knows. It is genetically impossible for the human counterpart to know. You do not possess what we possess.” He gave a look that shuts you up from asking any more questions. “As I was saying earlier, it is possible even when the human counterpart is not marked nor mated. As long as there is a connection and the hybrid acknowledges that you are its mate, it will start to show off acts of mateship.”

“Which is…?”

“I shouldn’t have come!” Jimin groaned. “Which is extreme scenting, nesting, increased clinginess, and more. It depends from hybrid to hybrid. The list is non-exhaustable.” Jimin took up the tongs from the table and stuck them inside the cake fridge, taking out more doughnuts. “Now leave me be! I want to go home with a full box of doughnuts!”

So What? | MYG | Chapter10

Now, you stand at the witness stand, looking over to Yoongi, catching him already looking at you. He gave you a small smile. At least one of you is composed. You were struggling to tell the judge the actual reason. You knew and you were certain that Yoongi had accepted it quite some time ago. The reason why he did not tell you is beyond your comprehension.

“Ah… I felt a connection to him.” You blurted out.

Before the judge can say anything, the opposing lawyer suddenly shoots, “So if I got this right, you decided to keep a potentially harmful hybrid in your house, under your name, because you somehow felt a connection to him and wanted to see how it goes?”

You were in shock. You did not expect such an explicit question.

“Y/N, you do not need to answer that.” Thank god you had Namjoon.

“It is a relevant question! She poses a threat due to the acquaintance of Min Yoongi and if not properly-” The lawyer turned to the judge as he got out of his seat, walking in your direction, “Sir, permission to question Y/N-ssi for her acquaintance with Min Yoongi and his work.”

“Overruled.” The judge stated. “Return to your seat, SeongHo-ssi.”

“Sir-”

“Return to your seat.” The judge turned to you. “Thank you, Y/N-ssi. That is all the questions I have for you now. You may return to your seat.”

You got down from the stand and bowed to the judge, walking back to your seat on shaky legs. This is going to be tougher than you thought and you hoped Yoongi would be alright. You landed on Seokjin, breathing heavily, dizzy from all the adrenaline running through you. You weren’t quite sure how you were going to last three days.

So What? | MYG | Chapter10

So What? | MYG | Chapter12

Seokjin knew talking to you now would be useless so all he did was listen intently to any abnormalities in the bathroom and when you were finally done, he carefully dried your hair.

“Let’s go to bed.” You refused to move. Seokjin turned back to you. “Are you hungry?” You nodded. “Okay, I have some leftover dinner, let’s go eat.”

You trudged behind him as the both of you walked out to the kitchen. Seokjin took an extra set of utensils and some rice, placing it in front of you. “Let’s eat. Dinner today is braised pork made by - obviously yours truly - and kimchi.” Jin ruffled your hair. “Not much, but just enough.”

You nodded and dug in. As Jin watched you eat, it reminded him of how you were in your middle school days when people bullied you for not being just like them. You constantly came over - not caring for the long distance between your school and his home - and cried to him. Back then, you were young, and couldn’t understand why Eomma*1 and Appa*2 aren’t there, having to live in the dormitory instead of come home to Oppa*3. As you grew older, you understood, learning to stand strong by yourself as well.

However, dongsaeng*4 is still dongsaeng. You were still his little sister and he still had a responsibility over you no matter how old you were. It hurts to see you in pain. Seokjin no longer had the appetite to eat, he just watched you gobble down the food, eyes rimming with a new wave of unshed tears.

Once you were done, he picked up the dishes and placed them in the sink, leading you back to the bedroom.

“Oppa, I’ll was the dishes -”

Seokjin was quick to stop you with a soft hold on your shoulders. “Oppa will do the dishes tomorrow morning. Let’s go to bed now.” Seokjin could see the hesitancy in your eyes. So he said, “Oppa is tireddd,” he whined. “Would you cuddle with your, big brother?”

You sighed and nodded, losing the battle between mind and body.

So What? | MYG | Chapter12

You woke up to a wave of pounding headaches. Your face felt puffy and your eyes sore. You sighed, remembering why you ended up in your brother’s home. Slowly, you got out of bed and did your morning routine. Seokjin kept quite a few of your things in his house, knowing that more times than not, you’ll come home with him after work.

Before Yoongi, you spent more time with your brother than in your own house. So, when you started living on your own, Seokjin had kept a few of your stuff in his house, claiming that you’d need them when you were to come over again. This leads you here now, looking at the bottles of skincare that sit on the countertop of his washroom basin.

Yoongi.

Just his name sends a wave of agony to your heart. He may no longer want you and by the end of today, he will most probably be deemed as a free hybrid. There is no need for you in his life any longer. You felt a fresh wave of tears brimming at your eyelids and you tilted your head back, frantically blinking to stop them from falling.

You were brought out of your self-wallowing when you heard a knock on the washroom door. “Y/N? You in there?” Soekjin called out.

You took a deep breath. Your brother didn’t need to know that you were about to break down in his washroom. “Yeah, I’ll be out in a minute.”

“Okay. Lunch is on the table, come after you’re done!”

“Okay!” You replied back, quickly finishing your routine and putting on your clothes. You’ll put on your makeup after lunch.

You exited the bedroom with a deep breath. You were going to make it through today like yesterday didn’t happen and cry tomorrow. You were not going to let Yoongi cloud your judgment for the verdict hearing later. And no matter how much he doesn’t want you, if the verdict pleads that Robbison is not guilty, you are going to fight tooth and nail to ensure that Yoongi and the other hybrids get their spot in this cruel world.

“Y/N, good to see you’re not crying,” Seokjin said with his mouth full of rice.

“And I see Oppa still talking with his mouth full of food.” You shot back, sending Seokjin into a bellowing laughter.

“Good one.”

The both of you ate lunch together in front of the television, letting the narrator for the show fill over the stiffening silence in the house. As you stood over the sink to wash the dishes and Seokjin stood beside you to dry them, he suddenly said, “To a certain extent, I don’t know what happened. But Y/N, it is not healthy to keep emotions stored away like this. It doesn’t matter what society views you as. Perception is key. There is no right from wrong when one views it from a certain perspective.” Seokjin bent down to store the plates in their respective places. “We both know the percentage of winning this case. Are you ready to let Yoongi go? Can you let him go?”

You stared at your brother.

“You always put on this facade when we go out, when you’re with friends, working, studying, I have seen it.” Seokjin sighed and leaned against the counter. “But I’d like to tell you, when you’re home, whether with me or any other person, let it down. It is important to take a break. I literally changed your diapers when you were a baby,” He snickered. “I’ve seen you grow up when Eomma and Appa aren’t here. I’ve been through your odd times with you. I don’t care if you feel the need to hide from others but I hope you won’t hide from me any longer.”

Seokjin was hardly ever so serious. He has always been the more carefree, go-with-the-flow type of person. There were only a handful of times you’ve seen him so serious - many of the times is when you come home from school with a bad report card or when he gets a call from the school stating you skipped class.

“But Oppa, it hurts, that’s why-”

“Everything hurts, my dear,” Seokjin stated frankly. “In this world, everything hurts. It is only when we grow used to the hurting that we don’t feel the pain any longer. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t there - it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make you bleed.”

Of course, the course of living and finding meaning will never be easy. It was never easy for a newborn to walk, so it will never be easy for an adult to navigate the world. It takes time, patience, and learning - one step at a time.

And for the second time in the past 24 hours, you crashed into your brother, crying into his hold.

Seokjin caressed your hair, muttering words of comfort. The both of you ended up cuddling on the couch for the next few hours before rushing out of the house in a fit of laughter when Hosoek called and asked, “Where the fuck are you guys? I said to come two hours early! You’re both really late!”

The both of you had then sprinted to change and grab everything you could, running down to the car. “And what the hell happened yesterday? Yoongi is a mess!”

Your heart ached at the thought of Yoongi being hurt, the worry making Hoseok’s berating go right over your head. Worried was probably not the right word in the dictionary to use when you reached the courthouse, spare ten minutes before the verdict hearing begins.

You saw many familiar and unfamiliar ones. As per usual, all the hybrids testifying sat in front of their respective lawyer and owners. You had been squished between Jin and Jimin again, this time Jimin brought Ji-Hyun along. She leaned over her husband’s lap, holding your hand as she comforted, “It’s gonna be okay.”

Jimin squinted his eyes at you. “The talk did not go well, did it?”

You shook your head.

“Yeah, that’s visible. You looked like you cried and ocean and our dearest Yoongi over there,” He pointed to the stands, “Look like a fricking wreck, I’m not even kidding. He looked so horrible when Hoseok came in that I thought he was sick.”

“Cried himself sick probably,” Ji-Hyun said. “His eyes are red and his tail is constantly tucked between his legs, ears pressed down.”

Right there, you felt bad. Really, really bad. You should’ve just told him after the verdict. You didn’t have time to think of any more ‘what ifs’ when the judge came in, making everybody stand and the air in the room immediately pulsated with anticipation and fear.

“With L/N Y/N-ssi’s hold over Min Yoongi-ssi, from the court, he is given two choices. One, Min Yoongi-ssi is allowed the title of a free hybrid by the State of Law and Hybrid Assosciation, under the thirteenth segment of the fourth amendment of the Hyrbid Rights Acts, that he is given the free will to do as he wishes and will not be held against him. Two, he is allowed to retain the hold that L/N Y/N-ssi’s over him and remain a taken hybrid.”

Y/N’s heart cracked little by little when she heard the verdict. You knew what was going to happen, Seokjin asked you earlier as well.

You knew that the court provided him choices but your overthinking brain just thinks of the worst. No, no, you knew you weren’t ready to let him go. Heart cracking at the verdict, you held in your emotions. Seokjin had told you earlier - asked you.

You so desperately wanted Yoongi to turn around and look at you, even if it’s just the side eye. Whether his eyes are full of hate or nothing at all, you don’t care. You just wanted him to look at you.

But he didn’t. Not once did he turn around and meet your eyes. After the hearing, he and all the other hybrids left the room, escorted by a group of lawyers and bodyguards. You wanted to go to him, feet moving on their own accord until Hoseok stopped you. “Y/N, you’re not allowed to follow. Only the hybrids and their lawyers.” You started to fuss.

“Y/N, come,” Seokjin called out to you.

“They’re just signing some papers, don’t worry. Namjoon will make sure that what he signs is right.” Hoseok tried to calm you.

You tried to stay strong - you truly tried - but you couldn’t help the tears that started to flow down your cheeks. You couldn’t even give Yoongi a proper goodbye. But would Yoongi even want you to? After the way ‘the talk’ ended last afternoon, all you could do was watch Yoongi’s back grow further and further from you. You turned your head into your brother’s embrace, ignoring looks of sorrow from all others.

Seokjin carefully leads you out of the courthouse, taking the other exit to ensure that you won’t be bombarded with cameras and microphones in your faces. You weren’t ready to give statements in your state anyway. You were silent throughout the ride home, only telling Seokjin to drop you off at your house.

It was only when you entered the silence did it fully hit you. Yoongi may be a free hybrid by now, and want nothing to do with you. He could do whatever he wanted and didn’t need you tying him down. You trudged to your bathroom, stripping as you walked in, finally letting yourself cry at the final goodbye you will never give.

So What? | MYG | Chapter14

Seokjin had come over in the middle of the night when you couldn’t sleep and inerputed him for a movie marathon. Beyond tired was a mild way of putting it. He woke up early in the morning, struggling and finally managing to shimmy out of your grasp after a long fifteen minutes. He stilled against the bed, one foot out on the floor, bed hair spiking everywhere, and head slowly turning to you as you whined about the loss of contact. Acting fast, Seokjin tucked a pillow under your arm.

You sighed and nuzzled it, quickly falling back into the Dreamland.

Seokjin rubbed his face and got out of bed, padding to your kitchen on soft feet to prepare some breakfast. As he opened the refrigerator, he found two lunchboxes of overnight oats. Opening them, he took a sniff, trying to sense how long they had been in the fridge. After he deemed that they were edible, he placed one on the table and headed to pack your living room as he ate.

It wasn't long before you woke up to the birds cawing outside your window, silently cursing them to let you sleep a little longer. Just as you were almost back asleep, they started calling again, causing you to groan out in frustration. Everything has been frustrating recently. You patted the space beside you, only for your hands to touch against the cool sheets.

Sighing, you pushed yourself out of bed, heading to the kitchen where you were sure your brother was.

Only to find it empty with a box of half-eaten overnight oats you had just made last afternoon. You tilted your head, yawning as you tried to think.

"That's mine." Seokjin came into the kitchen with arms full of opened snacks and dirty, empty cups. "Go take yours. I left it in the fridge."

"Where were you?" Your voice came out scratchy and hoarse, the aftermath of all the tears and screaming last night.

"Living room." Seokjin placed the cups in the sink. "I'm surprised you walked straight past me at the couch just now." He snickered, keeping your snacks in the baskets.

"You were probably hiding from me, waiting for this moment."

"Nah, I wouldn't be so bad."

The both of you started the day by cleaning your house, Seokjin nagging at you for not taking care of yourself and the place you live in. The constant "Look at the amount of dust there is on this!" and "Oh my gosh, Y/N!". At least your brain took a break from what you were running from. After dinner, Seokjin had left, saying that he was called back to the hospital. You shooed him off despite him worrying over you.

"Are you sure you'll be fine?" His brows were creased against his forehead. "I can cancel anyway. My licence is no longer valid so technically calling me back is unnecessary. So I can stay if you need me."

"Just go, Seokjin."

"They'll probably make me stay the whole night, you know that."

"I know that." You patted his shoulder. "Just go, I'll be fine."

With your constant pestering and deflection, Seokjin reluctantly left your house, leaving you once again in your mind. You watch as his car revered from the parking lot, driving away. You closed the curtains and turned off the lights.

Might as well get some sleep to escape reality.

The sad truth of that.

So What? | MYG | Chapter14

You had woken up just as Lillianne burst into your house screaming, “FBI, OPEN UP!”

Groaning, you turned to the side, hands blindly grabbing your phone off the coffee table. When your sleep-muggled brain finally registered the time that your screen showed you, you shot up, cursing your way to your room.

“I was wondering why you weren’t out yet. You better be lucky I came in.”

Hastily, you got yourself ready, shrugging on clothes like you were just caught. Technically, you were. You and Lils managed to leave the house in a record time of seven minutes, only missing your water bottle. But the water in the shop was free anyway, so you’d just take that.

Starting the car, you drove off in the direction of the shop. The moment you stepped in, you were already dreading coming to work. The shop was filled with customers.

Good for the business, not good for your health.

Starting the orders in the receipts, you prepped yourself for a long night ahead. Lils worked at the cashier, shoving more receipts your way as you balanced making drinks and serving to scoop ice creams.

You were certainly not pleased with the amount of people in the shop at four in the afternoon. But it was a Saturday - what could you say?

Family gatherings, children playing around, couples on dates. It made your heart clench every time you had to serve a couple. Seeing the lovey-dovey looks they send each other reminded you of a certain hybrid. Shaking your head, you tightened your apron and continued. The coffee would not make itself and the food would not serve itself.

Oh, how you would love that.

Then, you wouldn’t have to constantly run about. But that is the nature of the job. One could only expect so much from a food and beverage job. The night went on much busier than usual on a Saturday night. Parties were held there with big gatherings and by the time the shop closed, you had heard a good four birthday songs and seen an uncountable amount of bouquets.

Cleaning up, you cleared off the used cutleries and dishes, setting them in the sink for the kitchen staff to wash. Ensuring that no ice cream scooper is left in their respective boxes overnight, you then swept and mopped the floor before cleaning the tables. Going out to throw the trash, you grabbed the bags from the kitchen and outside.

Spotting a black cat sitting idly at the bus stop, you gave it a small hello before speed-walking to the bins. They were heavy trash bags. There were a lot of baking and alcohol bottles used today. You weren’t sure when the cat had leapt down and followed you, but you soon found yourself stumbling over, trying not to step on the cat’s wagging tail. It walked in between your legs, rubbing its head against your calves - chasing it was more likely - as its tail swished violently.

Its actions reminded you a lot of Yoongi. That cat loved to show affection by constantly rubbing your calves and scenting you in between your shoulders. He had said that it was a comfortable spot to sleep on.

Your heart clenched at the thought of him.

After throwing the trash away, you squatted down to give its head a small pat with the back of your hands. “I’m sorry, buddy. My hands are filled with syrup right now and I wouldn’t like you for you to get sick when you groom yourself.”

It followed you to the shop, stopping just outside the doors.

“Come on in, buddy.” You gestured for the cat.

It was dark outside and with the heavy trash bags, you didn’t take a good look at the cat, trying to work your way around not hurting it. But now that it was inside, it mewoed and continued to rub at your ankles, going around you in circles.

“Sit.” You instructed it. It was something you hoped it could understand. And it did.

After washing your hands, you rummaged through the kitchen for a can of tuna. Spotting three, you took them all with you and headed out. Opening one, you placed it in front of the cat. “There you go, you can have all three. I’ll go get you some water, okay?”

When you headed back to the front, you found it prodding at the second can. “Here,” You placed the bowl of water onto the floor. “Have some water first. I’ll open it for you.”

You were stopped with two paws on your arm, the cat jumping up onto your lap. Sitting down in a cross-legged position, gave it more space to roam. But it seemed to know exactly where it wanted to be. In the middle with his head propped on your upper thigh. Its loud purrs fill the room as you stroke it from ear to snout.

It looks just like Yoongi.

You knew that but your conscious brain was just trying to reject it.

It wasn’t until its moonlit eyes slid to yours did the waterworks started. Carrying him up, you looked at the cat in your arms through watery eyes. Its shocked expression and terrified meows -

Your eyes closed the moment you felt his rough tongue lick your cheek. Tilting your head away from him to not cover his shiny fur in your slob, you tucked him between your neck and shoulder, head hanging down.

So What? | MYG | Chapter14

Yoongi knew Jimin was right.

Yoongi knew that he needed to talk to you.

Yoongi also knew the address where you stayed and worked.

So when he overheard Seokjin asking a favour from Jimin to keep his phone on call in case you needed him, Yoongi dashed out of the house. Scurrying from Jimin’s home to the shop, his little cat paws could only get him there so fast.

By the time he reached it, he was parched. Panting, he stuck his tongue out to moderate his temperature. He wanted to take the chance of the next customer to enter the shop and call your attention to him. But seeing you so busy, running from place to place without a stop, Yoongi decided that it was better if he waited until the shop closed.

So Yoongi took his spot at the shaded area of the bus stop and watched you work. You were quick and agile, moving like the wind. Many times, he saw the flinch of pain and growth of your eyes when you were scared. When big groups of people came in, he could see the exhaustion in your eyes. You tried not to show the customers - but Yoongi knew better. The pain in your eyes when you see couples made his head hang.

It was his fault.

When the day was finally over and the shop closed, Yoongi waited for his chance. Like a cat hunting for his prey, Yoongi’s attention grew sharper. He noted each of your movements and when you finally came out with trash bags in hand, he leaped for it.

He did not expect you to spot him from far but you did.

It made his heart swell with a feeling he couldn’t quite describe. Pride, most probably.

She noticed me.

Rubbing against your ankles, he meowed for your attention, glad to finally be close to you. You hadn’t recognised him and it made Yoongi feel a little… sad. But the moment you did, you burst into tears and Yoongi couldn’t find a way to stop it. He was essentially trapped in your hold. He meowed frantically, hoping that you would sense the distress in his voice and stop. But you didn’t.

You continued, caressing his fur and mumbling his name over and over again.

With a meow and a particularly harsh tug, he slid out of your grasp and stood on your thighs, licking your face. You laughed as he found your sensitive spot just behind your ear. Trying to get him out of your face, Yoongi held on and continued. It was better than you crying.

“Okay, okay.” You got up, placing him on a table as he hissed from the cold contact. “I’m okay. But now I have to go wash my face since you just covered me in slobber.”

Yoongi sat up and watched your movements. From cleaning up yourself to cleaning the floor and leftover water to you turning off everything and picking him up, he didn’t dare relax. It wasn’t until you placed him in your car and wrapped him in his favourite towel did he started to feel it.

He was holding it in for such a long time that -

Tears unconsciously slid down his eyes, matting his fur.

He didn’t know how long it was before your arms pulled him up again, carrying him onto your lap. “Yoongs… Don’t cry… We’ll figure it out, I’ll try harder. I promise.”

But it has nothing to do with you.

It’s me.

The silence was kept at a peaceful wavelength until you reached home. Picking him and your bags up, he cuddled closer to you, seeking your warmth in the chilly air. The moment you opened the door, Yoongi lept out of your arms and slinked through the cat door on his door, pleased to find that it had not been locked.

Quickly shifting and changing, Yoongi left the room and slid to your side on the floor.

You brought your hands to his face, cupping his cheeks but he did not dare grumble. He wanted this to last as long as possible.

“I chose you, Y/N. I choose you, mate.” Yoongi confessed.

You closed your eyes as your lips trembled and Yoongi brought his hands up to wipe away the tears that streaked down your face.

“I’m sorry…” You whispered.

“No, please don’t be. Please.” Yoongi begged. “You are the most amazing person ever. The most beautiful and does everything you can just for me. I am sorry. I have let you down - hurt you just because I thought it was easier to let you hate me than love me.” Yoongi let himself go, crying in your lap. “My strong, beautiful, exceptional mate.” Yoongi looked up at you, voice breaking. “I’m sorry.”

This is one of the few times that Yoongi broke down in front of you.

“I’m so, so, sorry.” Yoongi kneeled in front of you, head in your lap. “I’m sorry. I did not mean - I -”

You gently placed your hands in his hair, ruffling them and stroking his ears. Yoongi’s harsh sobs could be heard throughout your house. “It’s okay, it’s okay.” You mumbled into his hair, bent over onto his body. “It’s okay, Yoongs. I’m sorry too.”

Yoongi’s head tilted upwards, voice hoarse as he asked, “Why are you sorry?”

“Because I jumped to conclusions and didn’t put enough trust and hope into our relationship. And that I let this become when we could have easily talked it out properly if I had chosen the right words to tell you.” You smiled down at him.

You had never thought that you would ever say these three words that would mean so much. You thought that our chance had been blown the moment you started that argument. You expected your chance to stay blown when Yoongi walked out of the courtroom without looking back. Saying them to Lils and Jin was a different thing from saying to Yoongi. You were always the person to express instead of say but this time -

“Yoongi,” You tilted his face upwards to you, eyes boring into his as you muttered the three words of magic. “I love you.”

From this view, you can see the widening of his eyes.

“You - You love me?” Yoongi’s eyes sparkled with a shimmery glow. “You love me?”

You nodded, smiling at his goofy expression. Yoongi suddenly shot up, bouncing around the house - much like an excited dog might when he goes on walks.

“You love me! You love me!” Yoongi ran to the windows. “Y/N love me!”

Your eyes widened, hands instantly pulling him back. “Don’t go screaming it to the world! It isn’t even 5 a.m.!”

Yoongi turned, the light in his eyes knocking the breath out of you. “But you’re mine.” Yoongi’s eyes crinkled and a gummy smile was full on show. “And you love me.”

You nodded undoubtedly. Yoongi brought you close to his chest, hugging you tightly. “You love me and I love you too.”

“Yoongi -”

“I love you.” He shook his head, eyes shining with inner light and it knocked the breath right out of you. “I love you, wholly.”
