She said, I was seven and you were nine. I looked at you like the stars that shine in the sky, the pretty lights.

The sun had set, and the two kids sat side by side staring into the water as it glimmered against the moonlight, her head turned looking at the blonde-headed boy she called her best friend.

He shined, like the stars. She thought as she admired how pretty he was, although the two had no clue what the hell love was or hormones yet. She felt funny.

She wondered if he saw her like that, and if he felt funny whenever he looked at her. All she saw was stars when she looked into the blue eyed boy.

And our daddies used to joke about the two of us growing up and falling in love and our mamas smiled and rolled their eyes and said oh my my my

Although her family were kooks they were the most loving people ever. Excepting her and her little friend JJ Maybank she had met at the park, and she beg beg and beg her parents to let her go to the same school as him.

One Friday evening after pre-school, the four sets of parents had invited the Maybanks round for a dinner, obviously Before everything had happened with JJ’s mom passing away and his father becoming an asshole.

The two of the kids had ran off somewhere, carrying on just like kids do, when the two dads had spoke up. “They’re gonna realise their love for each other I bet you!” Y/n’s father said “he’s the only one I’d accept and trust with my daughter” he smiled at the Maybank family. 

“Very funny” her mother laughed making the mom’s roll their eyes at the two dads “it’s true! The two of them will, I bet” Luke spoke agreeing with her dad making the women roll their eyes again laughing at the men.

“Not gonna lie, I kinda see it happening aswell” JJ’s mom turned to look at y/n’s mom as the dads were off in a separate conversation “don’t tell them, but same” the women laughed watching the kids from a distance.

Take me back to the house in the back yard tree. Said you beat me up you were bigger than me, you never did, take me back to when our world was one block wide. I dared you to kiss me and ran when you tried. Just two kids you and I, oh my my my.

The house up in the tree that her dad had build, not too long ago for her 11th birthday was also a gift for JJ, since the two would spend most time up there, playing video games or just chilling whatever kids do.

The two were currently playing a video games nudging each other as they were completing with each other “I’ll beat you up!” He yelled a laugh coming along with the comment, “you wouldn’t dare!” She yelled back nudging him again. She was right he would never dare to touch his precious y/n y/l/n.

Now the two currently sat playing truth or dare after she bet him in the video game the two were playing “truth or dare, Jay” she said leaning on the bean bag “dare” he said copying her actions.

She sat in thought for a couple seconds as an idea had popped into her head “I dare you to kiss me!” She said before bolting out of the tree house, Him hot on her tail as he chased her around the yard laughing out loud when she almost tripped over her bike that way laying next to his.

No longer the little kids the two of them intended to be, at her sweet sixteenth birthday party, y/n and JJ had snuck away down to the beach to relive some old memories, it was dark as the two snuck down “crazy how we’re not kids anymore” she sadly smiled and sat down after placing a towel down to not ruin her dress.

“I know, least I got to spend the years with you huh” he said. Now, the two teenagers had turned into hormonal snot nosed teenagers, that smoked and drank against her parents wishes.

JJ had turned into, the islands heart throb, with girls. Y/n hated it, she hated all the attention he got, she missed when she was just hers and no one else’s.

As for y/n she had turned into a respectful young woman, but her and JJ were at different ends of the social spectrum but the still hung out when the could, obviously they had made more friends like now the two of them were Pogues, hung out with John B, pope, and kiara, ( who was another kook, like her ). Pope and kiara were the only ones who hung with her at school, but John B and JJ had their own friends.

But it was fine, she still loved JJ the same and maybe even more, and maybe just maybe he felt the same way about her.

“Remember that time you dared me to kiss you? And then you ran when I tried?” He said lighting the blunt that was already in his mouth “huh?” She raised her brows, of course she remembered, how could she forget? “We were playing truth or dare and you dared me to kiss you and then you like bolted away from me when I tried” he said handing her the blunt.

“Oh shit” she laughed “i do” she chuckled again leaning down on the towel “y’know” he paused taking the joint back “I would’ve done it if you would of let me” he copied her action leaning on of his side facing her “dude, we were what? Nine?” She shook her head “I’m surprised you even came tonight” she sighed

“What’d you mean” he said as the girl turned around on her side facing the boy “wouldn’t miss my favourite girls birthday over anything” he said reaching out and brushing a strand of hair that had fell out of place, behind her ear.

“Wanna play truth or dare?” He asked sitting up in a upright position “sure” she copied him “okay you go” she said “truth or dare birthday girl” the girl thought for a second before answering

“Dare” she sat back the boy copied her actions from when she was nine before he repeated her answer from that exact day.

“I dare you to… kiss Me” he trailed making the girls eyes go wild “what?” She chuckled awkwardly “I dare you to kiss me” he shrugged a smirk appearing on his face “if you insist” he smiled at her as he leaned forward puckering his lips up for her.

She took a breathy laughed before pressing her lips against his.

And yet they did bet on it, but they didn’t think it would become reality, as y/n told her father about her and JJ becoming a thing. Her dad had grinned high-fiving her mother with a grin making the woman roll her eyes.

JJ’s mother had passed, making it extra tough on JJ, but her family still accepted the boy, even though JJ’s father was now an asshole and bet the boy up repeatedly.

But y/n would welcome him with open arms and patch up back into one piece, and she was lucky enough to have parents that let boys sleep in her bedroom.

Take me back to the time, we had our very first fight slamming doors instead of kissing goodnight you stayed outside till the morning light.. oh my my my

No one ever expects it but it happens, some girl was flirting with JJ at a party while he was getting himself and y/n another drink, and yet he didn’t do anything it look like he was and y/n was mad.

“Why did you not just tell her to fuck off JJ!” She yelled as John B, Sarah, Kie and pope sat on the couch awkwardly glancing between the couple and themselves

“I don’t flirt with every girl I talk to y/n!” He yelled back “and she didn’t know I have a girlfriend!” He spat “you could’ve of told her, it’s so simple “oh by the way I have a girlfriend that I love so much and care deeply about” see that easy” she yelled

“She just wanted a drink y/n!” He explained angrily “yeah! Sure! That was totally the only thing on her mind when she was touching up all over you!” She yelled before slamming the door behind her after leaving the chateau.

It was around 4am when she heard light taps on her windows as she rolled her eyes knowing it was JJ, she turned her TV’s volume up ignoring the boy who just wanted her attention.

A few years had gone and come around we were sitting at our favourite spot in town, and you looked at me got down on one knee.

The beach was always pretty during sunset, the couple were now both 23 and had moved out of outer banks, only back to visit her parents for a couple days during the summer.

The girl had been caught up in the pretty sunset as they were sitting on one of the fold up chairs her parents had in the garage, she hadn’t noticed JJ looking at her with such love and affection in his eyes, but she had noticed the strange feeling that someone was stairing at her burning holes into the side of her face.

“What..?” She said a smile appearing on her face as she turned around to look at her boyfriend “nothing” he said getting up from the seat and bending down on one knee “y/l/n” he paused “I’ have loved you ever since I met you. And I’m extremely lucky to have such an amazing, gorgeous and incredible girl in my life.. so will you marry me?” He said tears prickling in her eyes as he spoke.

“Yes, yes, yes!” She smiled as she stood up as he copied her actions engulfing her in a hug and placing a light kiss on her lips.

Take me back to the time, when I walked down the aisle, the whole time came and my mama cried you said I do and I did too

The time had come for the couple to get married, the long white dress trailed behind her as she slowly walked down the aisle after Kiara and Sarah. Everyone’s eyes on her as she made her way towards JJ, his eyes glassy as she stood across from the boy.

The vows, came and this was it “do you.. JJ Maybank take thee y/n y/l/n to be your lawfully wedded wife?” He said as JJ nodded “I do” he said wiping a quick tear away “and do you y/n y/l/n take thee JJ Maybank to be your lawfully wedded husband?” a smile appeared on her face “I do” she smiled as the family and friends cheered a smile appearing on her face as JJ left the room with her bridal style.

I’ll be eighty seven; you’ll be eighty nine I’ll still look at you like the stars that shine in the sky.. oh my my my

IT WAS COLD Walking outside with only a small black bikini on, the path to the hot tub was short, but chilly, the light smoke coming from the tub or JJ who was smoking a blunt. “Hey” her voice was quiet unlike the hot tub as she stepped up the small stairs sitting on the side of the tub before lifting her legs over

“Lookin’ good miss Y/L/N” his eyes travelling down her body “thank you mr maybank” she smiled sitting down across from the boy, who passed the blunt to her, she mumbled a quick ‘thanks’ before inhaling the joint.

after she inhaled, she looked up letting the smoke exhale from her mouth her eyes connecting with JJ’s “why are you looking at me like that?” She awkwardly laughed drawing her attention to the fact that it was only her and him in the hot tub.

The rest were asleep or out at the beach doing god knows what “you look pretty” he breathed out still stairing at her lifting his sunglasses up “are you high?” He laughed at her “maybe just a little” he shrugged

She passed the blunt back over to the boy his fingers grazing hers.

“But seriously though” he said looking up from the joint “you seriously think I’m pretty? JJ c’mon I see you with a new girl every week or flirting with one at a party and we’re literally best friends you can’t be serious JJ”

The boneyard. The one place where Kooks and Pogues can party without fighting. It wasn’t unusual for a party at the boneyard on a Friday night, every week during summer vacation. The Pogues loved partying especially JJ Maybank & y/n y/l/n.

JJ lingered around the girl. Glances ever so often, as she talked to people that were in her classes last year before Kiara came up behind her putting an arm around her shoulder “he’s staring again.” She chuckled the two girls a little tipsy.

“Who’s staring Kie?” The girls eyebrows raised a smile taking over her face, as she looked around the beach, the brunette hit her jokingly “you know!” She said, a wider smile appearing on her face as she turned around seeing JJ leaning against a tree, sipping his drink.

“Oh! maybank?” She grinned “what are you on about Kie? I literally saw him Making out with a girl not even ten minutes ago.” She shrugged “you know he only has eyes for you y/n” she nudged her.

“JJ Maybank does not like me, Kiara” she sighed downing the rest of her drink “I’m definitely not his type. For one. And two, literally every girl goes for him because he’s a hot idiot” Kiara followed her over to the keg as she filled her drink up, Kiara had noticed JJ walking over.

The girl had turned around to say something to Kie but noticing that she had disappeared, she carried on filling her drink up.

“Alright y/n?” JJ approached her putting a hand on her bare shoulder with a firm grip “hey J” a light smile spreading on her face as she turned around “enjoying the party?” She asked as he moved his arm to around her shoulders draping over them.

“Walk with me?” He said pulling her in the opposite direction of the party, the music becoming distant as they walked towards the water.

Outerbanks was beautiful to say the least, she had a beautiful house, amazing friends and an amazing view to look at, no she didn’t mean the sunset and sunrise she saw ever morning she meant JJ Maybank, gorgeous, dumb blonde, flirt, and amazing abs.

But it was days like these she loved seeing JJ shirtless out on his board surfing, with John B, the girl had some news to share, but she could not Keep her eyes off of the blonde boy that was walking out from the water towards her, Sarah, pope and Kiara.

“Okay so..uh.. I..” she trailed on as the boy sat down beside her “my dad says, he can’t make it this year so my family isn’t going, but he offered us to go to our beach house in Florida this year for the full summer” she said making the two girls eyes go wide as the jumped up im excitement “so what do you say!” She asked making the girls nod in agreement.

“Yes!” The two girls brought the girl into a hug squeezing her “when do we leave!” Sarah asked “Sunday” she spoke making the girls squeal in excitement.

But Sunday came quicker than expected, she wasn’t complaining though, she loved her friends and that beach house with her whole heart.

The suitcases were tough to fit in, as the group piled into her car the airport was the next stop as it was 4:35am in the morning and she was tired as hell to drive all that way to Florida.

The plane ride journey was rough JJ had insisted to sit next to her, which was odd cuz he had never shown that much interest in her before. Turns out the big tough guy he claimed to be was scared of flying, she talked him through it though.

“I need to piss, and a coffee” she said as the group got off the plane and made their way to baggage claim “brb” she said after spotting the toilets.

After finishing her business she walked back out spotting the group, with her bags and drinks “for you m’lady” JJ said handing her the coffee with a smile on his face “thank you kind sir” she laughed putting on a British accent that was half-assed

After getting the car that was already pre-booked for the summer they made their way to the beach house, she was so excited to show her friends her happy place, if someone asked what she thought was home? She would always go back to this place in her mind, even when she was sad or upset.

“Home sweet home” she said as she pulled up into the driveway. They got out of the BMW the Pogues stood infront of it admiring the big house that stood in front of them “and why didn’t you invite us sooner?” John B exclaimed as he took the multiple suitcases out of the trunk.

“Never crossed my mind” she shrugged pulling on her suitcases to the front porch “we’re gonna have to double up by the way not enough rooms, it looks gigantic but there’s only three bedrooms upstairs” she spoke as the Pogues came up behind her as she unlocked the door.

“I call my parents bedroom!” She yelled as they rushed upstairs noticing JJ standing behind her “guess I’m stuck with you then.. huh?” She laughed as he followed up upstairs “what do you mean stuck with me” he laughed placing his hand on his chest in offence as he opened the double bedroom doors that led to her parents bedroom.

“God y/n this is room is bigger than my house” he mumbled as he threw himself on the California king bed “my parents like treat themselves when their on vacation, I have king bed” she said tiredly copying JJ as she left the suitcases at the door.

“This room makes the house look bigger than it actually is, it was so expensive for only three bedrooms” she groaned pulling herself up “and I swear to god JJ if you pull any of your shenanigans” she pulled her self up from the bed removing the pillow from behind his head “I will make you sleep on the couch” she said while smacking his face with the soft fabric.

“Now I’m gonna go get a bikini on while you unpack your shit okay?” She said as he gave her one of his charming smiles as she dragged her suitcases to the bathroom, a funny warm feeling over taking her body as she laid the suitcase out.

“KIE, SARAH, WE HAVE TO GO TO THE STORE TO GET FOOD!” The girl said poking her head out the bedroom making the girls groan as the jet-lag was taking over all of them “c’mon!” She yelled as they followed her downstairs and back into the car.

The drive was short to the nearest Walmart picking out alcohol, and whatever junk food they could find, making sure to pick up sunscreen, and more cosmetics products. Not that they needed anymore anyways, their cart was full as they pushed it to check-out.

Five bags, is what they left with “I think we left with more than what we needed” she laughed as they pulled up back to the beach house “time to get this par-ty started!” Sarah jumped as they made their way inside spotting the boys lounging on the sofa.

The boys had jumped as soon as they saw the six-packs of beer being took out the bag and placed on the kitchen island.

The bathing suit she had put on before the girls left was handy as she slid her shorts off, she could a familiar pair of eyes on her as she slid the glass door open the warm air hitting her body as she looking around the familiar scenery.

She took a deep breath smelling the fresh salty air as she heard John B jump into the pool, pope jumping in next, she shook her head a smile appearing on her face as she was next to jump in.

“I hate saying this, but I can’t believe how much I missed this place” she said swimming over to the clear glass edge of the pool that looked out onto the beach “this place is so beautiful” Kiara said making the other Pogues agree.

THE NIGHT HAD SLOWLY CAME AND THE SUN WAS SETTING AS THE POGUES LOUNGED IN THE HOT TUB laughing at whatever joke john B had made, the group was drunk but she wasn’t to drunk to notice JJ’s lingering gaze on her as he made his was closer to her everytime he got back into the hot tub after going out to get another beer.

“I genuinely can’t believe you ever complained about this place y/n” pope said making the girl roll her eyes “it’s even worse with family, believe me” her head falling back “anyways” she sleepily said “im gon’ call it a night” she said standing up almost falling over in the process, JJ’s hand catching hers as she got out.

“Me too, this one’s heavily intoxicated” he laughed “so are you” she hit his bare chest as she got out “let’s get you to bed” he said pulling her inside “ ‘m too sleepy” she slurred as she made her way upstairs.

“How am I more drunk than you?” She drunkenly laughed as she opened the door to the bedroom “‘m going for a shower” she huffed making her away into bathroom “g’night Jay” she slurred.

Summary; okay, maybe writing a song about a certain blond pogue wasn’t such a bad idea .. but getting it exposed by one of her sisters, she still probably shouldn’t have done it.

Warnings - smoking, alcohol, sisters being sisters.

The light pink hues of the sky casting over her face as she sat on the sofa outside the chateau with a pen and a bit of paper, as the bit of paper balanced on her thigh as she wrote, everyone was inside drinking and as much as she would hate to admit she was drunk, she was, well maybe just a bit tipsy and the great idea to write a song about a certain blond pogue came over her.

So here she was biting the cap of the pen, as she thought. She had came out here to gain some peace to write, She couldn’t even admit she’d be doing this infront of the boys, they’d laugh, and call her pathetic, aswell as JJ.

She decided to just write down her feelings and maybe the misinterpreted signs she may have picked up from JJ, not that he’d ever like her back anyways, he had plenty other girls, girls like Kiara, her best friend, and the only other girl in the group. Although kiara was taking her shot on pope the now, she couldn’t deny the way she’d seen her look at JJ.

Maybe the longing glances from her were catching up to him as everytime she’d look over she make eye contact a confused look taking over his face as he tilted his head making her turn away a light pink blush appearing on her face.

As they’d walk, he’d talk and talk and of course she’d admire him his beautiful jaw line, matched his tanned skin and his blonde hair pushed back with a cap.

And obviously she’d talk too but she’d never say half the things she wanted too.

*and as we walked we would talk and I didn’t say half the things I wanted too..*

As the group wondered down to the beach for a beach day to surf, tan which is what she would be doing most of the day.

She tried to pry her eyes away as JJ took his shirt off walked towards the water with his bored, wow.

And of course multiple other girls that were at the beach that day, were drooling over him, giggling with their friends as the watched him, her head snapped around as kiara started talking to her about pope, she nodded showing that she was listening as she pulled out the piece of paper and pen with her note book

“What’s that?” Kiara asked leaning back on her arms “homework..?” She said as if she was unsure as she turned over so she was lying on her stomach placing the note book and paper infront of her, still facing the water so she could sneak glances at JJ.

“Me and pope are going on a date today” kiara spoke copying her “cool” she responded as she bit the pen cap thinking of more lyrics.

“You seein’ anyone” kiara spoke distracting her again “no, kie. If I was I’d tell you, remeber?” She chuckled turning back to the paper.

Maybe, he wasn’t real, or maybe she was just dreaming but she swore that he looked angelic the sun beaming down on him, his wet hair hanging over her face as he walked towards the two girls with John B and pope. She quickly turned the note book over.

A smile appeared on his face as he looked at her, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad kissing him in the rain.

“Earth to y/n” he waved his hand infront of her laughing, she shook out of it staring at the space where he was to now beside her, shit, she thought looking up at that gorgeous face.

“Y/n!” The way he said her name, was beautiful, even the way he walked over the weed catching up to her as she leaned her head back.

The two of them sat in comfortable silence as she leaned her head on his shoulder “why are people always leaving?” JJ spoke sighing leaning his head on hers “I think you and I should stay the same” she muttered blowing the smoke out before handing it back to him.

Even now, he still looked like an angel sent from heaven, he’s quite literally perfect.

As she walked into her bedroom she noticed that her closet was wide open, with clothes on the floor and a certain box that she kept her ‘song’ in wide open. Her eyebrows furrowed bending down to inspect it more the many photos of her and JJ scattered around it while the bit of folded paper that read ‘JJ’ with a bunch of hearts around it that also held the song she wrote was gone. Gone.

“Shit” she spoke her hands moving faster trying to find it but it being no where in site, shit, shit shit, no, it couldn’t be, this can’t be happening right now.

She stood up bolting into her younger sisters room spotting her on the bed “why were you going through my closet?” She asked leaning against the door “what gave that away” she snickered eyes glued to her phone

“Well maybe the way all my clothes are on the floor and the box that no one is allowed into is wide open and a bit of paper is missing from it” she crossed her arms over her chest watching as her sister looked up “oh!” She smiled “I gave it to JJ” her sister said nonchalantly making her heart drop

“Please, tell me you didn’t do that” she spoke her face flushing “yeah I did, It had his name on it so I found him at the beach told him it was from you” she shrugged looking back down at her phone “Ava!” She yelled “why do you think I keep it in a box in my closet?!” She spoke her sister looking surprised “no one is meant to see it!” She spoke her hands going straight to her hair.

“Holy shit what the fuck am I gonna do” she panicked as her sister stood from her bed “go get it back from him I’m sure he hasn’t even read it, when I left he was putting it in his bag” Ava shrugged before leaving the room.

She took a deep breath before leaving her house making her way down to the beach where JJ was as she reached she noticed his bag sitting beside John b’s she looked out noticing he was still surfing scoffing as she saw girls looking at him.

She turned round bending down searching through his bag, “shit, where is it” she mumbled her hand searching the inside contents “fuck!” She sighed in defeat

She had no clue where he had hid it as she went to get up from the bag water droplets fell on her back, she froze “lookin’ for this?” She turned round noticing the folded piece of paper in his hands a smirk on his face.
