My Favorite Thing About Posting To Ffn Is The Angry, Anonymous Guest Commenter Who Always, Without Fail,

My favorite thing about posting to ffn is the angry, anonymous guest commenter who always, without fail, rants to me about how much they hate theonsa whenever a chapter contains the barest hint of them. pretty sure it's all one person, anyway.

This sounds sarcastic, but it fuels me

Abandon All Hope - Prologue

Abandon All Hope - Prologue

Pairing: Aemond Targaryen x Original Female Character

Summary:

A dream has King Viserys making an olive branch of his granddaughter and son in a bid to bind together the two halves of his family, torn asunder by love, whispered lies, and daggers in the night. But dreams are fickle things. One missed step in a dance, and a new path to madness enters the game.

Her mother once said she named her for the dreamer, out of a hope that she'd bring a new dawn upon their house just as their ancestor did so many years ago.Ā Daenys the Dreamer, who dreamt the Doom of Valyria and led House Targaryen across the narrow sea to spare them.

Daenys does not dream of things yet to pass, and she rather thinks herself destined for her own doom. Her Uncle Aemond will make certain ofĀ that.

Rating: M, minors I will throw rocks at you if I find out you read this

Word Count: 3.6k

If one were to ask Daenys who amongst the men in her life she loved the most, she might have answered her eldest brother Jacaerys. For he was a man by all the laws of the realm, and had always chased away her tears and kissed her scraped knees. She might even answer that her grandfather, Lord Corlys Velaryon, was the man she loved most. He was always gentle with her and delighted in showing her the treasures he’d collected from his many voyages, and he always had time for her when others didn’t.Ā

Above all Daenys might have answered that her father, Laenor Velaryon, was the man she loved the best. Her father and his laughing eyes, his gentle hands and bone-crushing hugs; he always told her he loved her best out of all of his daughters, and though Daenys was his only daughter, she clung to his words all the same. Her father always stuck up for her in the face of her brother’s teasing, and he always drove away her nightmares with soft songs or old legends of the sea, passed down from Velaryon to Velaryon.

Even now, she fiddled with the necklace her father gave her on her tenth name-day. She wore it more oft than not, even when it didn’t match the dress she wore. It was, at the time, the finest of all the jewelry she owned, and it was the first necklace that made her feel like a proper lady.Ā A necklace for a woman, not a child.Ā It was a delicate thing of silver, with five, sparkling, aquamarine gemstones that reminded Daenys of the sea.Ā

ā€œSilver and aquamarine,ā€ her father had said when he gave it to her. ā€œSo you might never forget our house. Or me.ā€ She’d thought her father silly to say such a thing, to think she could ever forget that she was a Velaryon or that he was her father. Daenys was proud to be a Velaryon, and she was proud to call Laenor Velaryon her father.Ā

But Daenys could not answer that her father, Laenor Velaryon, was the one she loved best out of all the men in her life. For her father was dead and had been for almost a year now. And she couldn’t answer her brother Jacaerys, as he was barely two years older than her, and if Jacaerys was a man then she must certainly be a woman, and Daenys did not feel like a woman grown. Nor could she answer that her grandfather Corlys was the one she loved best, because he’d left them all to go fight in the Stepstones once more.Ā

She most certainly could not answer that her other grandfather, King Viserys, was the man she loved most. He had decided to be the king instead of her grandfather, and Daenys did not love the king.

Throw Me to the Wolves anon here! Okay, so I was reading through your story again, and I got to Varys' interlude, and something caught my attention. Varys mentions that Cersei had insisted upon Shaena using the Grand Maester (that was obviously in Lannister pay) for the delivery. He then says that it was unfortunate that Cersei's actions did not have the intended effect (keeping both Shaena and baby Alysanne alive).

But here's the thing: why would Cersei want to help Shaena? I assume that Cersei at best derided her and at worst absolutely hated her, so why would she care about Shaena's health? It couldn't be because of Jaime, because Cersei only cares about whether or not Jaime is hers, not about his feelings. And it couldn't be because she particularly wanted the baby to make it out alive, because I feel like she would have seen Alysanne as something to come between her and Jaime at that point. And I don't think that she did it for the good of the family, because I don't think that Cersei cares much about that beyond how it affects her.

Which all leads me to the question: Is Cersei the reason Shaena died? Like, did Cersei pay the Grand Maester to do something to weaken Shaena so that she didn’t make it out of the delivery alive?

Because if so? When Jaime and Alysanne find out? Holy. Crap.

Anyways, I really hope that this isn't totally wrong, cuz I'm gonna look so dumb if it is lol. If I'm completely wrong please just like...ignore this ask lmao

AH no you're not dumb or wrong! This was definitely the conclusion you were supposed to reach, and I'm so so glad people are picking up on it! (also, you reread my fic??? crying šŸ„ŗā¤ļø)

Varys knows what Cersei's true intentions were, and he knows of Pycelle's part. Cersei did in fact despise Shaena, and is fully responsible for the end she met. What precisely she did, however, remains to be seen :)

And her feelings towards Alysanne are complex. Had Alysanne remained in King's Landing as Cersei wished, she would have latched onto her. She viewed Alysanne as the daughter she could have had with Rhaegar, and with Shaena out of the way she could have embraced that delusion. Cersei 100% would have groomed Alysanne to be queen after her, and would have done everything she could to wed her to Joffrey. In her mind, the prophecy of a "younger, more beautiful queen" could have been avoided because she would control that queen. Alysanne would have been another piece for her to move around the board, a way for her to retain power as long as she could.

But now that Alysanne has struck out on her own? She is nothing less than a traitor in Cersei's eyes and is entirely disposable. Like you said, Cersei does not care for much beyond Cersei (and her children, which she ultimately views as extensions of her self). Her love for Jaime is entirely selfish and self-serving, and if Alysanne had remained in King's Landing and gone against Cersei then she would absolutely have been viewed as an obstacle and done away with, regardless of what Jaime felt.

I do plan on exploring Cersei's views towards Alysanne in a future chapter. Cersei is so fun to write, and she's one of my favorite characters in canon!

But yes, I'm so looking forward to writing that reveal, and what it does to Alysanne and Jaime.

Thanks again for the questions!
