one thing that I always keep in mind regarding otto is how his off-putting nature I feel like is really because of how uncomfortable it must be in general with how work was like before noone came along like, referring to kids with numbers, likely giving them sleep medication and calling it candy as a means to help them sort of be lulled into a sense of security, the fuckin' room where patients can just watch those who've recovered be all happy while they're in a stale routine, like it's all sort of making me think hard about what it is like just trying to cope with all of that, but my fixation sounds of nightmares is super spotty nowadays so I can't piece a lot together atm

if I'm real, I'd have to go look through the episodes again given it's been a long time and I'm fixated on things other than sounds of nightmares, but I definitely do believe all, if not a few episodes have to be related to otto and noone or express something particular within each episode, as while the worldbuilding is nice, in and of itself, there's a layer deeper and the most I was able to gather from is theater of the mind, which explicitly shows the sort needy desire otto has to have his patients, like noone, and more than that, his sister, stay by trying to appease to their wants and needs, with little things like cake, trying to be as nice as possible but ultimately it ends up driving more of a wedge with how good he tries to appear to be, because it comes from a clingy and codependency to not lose anyone else to the candleman ( I forgot his other alias ) I feel like if someone were to try and go through the episodes, I'd compare the events within the reality vs. the nightmares themselves because I think maybe there's a sort of theming? it gets more relevant within the later episodes but, yeah. lowkey I've been holding all of my tson anon asks on the back burner because I've jus' been rocking around different fixations atm ( fargo, dead plate, ocs, etc. ) but !! I have a few bullet point ideas to run by so I'll go over each theodore crow ( he / him ) - 28 years old - I like to think he sort of embodies the scarecrow from the wizard of oz, hence the last name and whatnot & is a babysitter for scotty / the neighbor who had to look after her for a time when stuff was goin' on with dot - he and marilyn are close in a sense, sort of sibling-like but it's moreso maternal on marilyn's end - owner of a myraid of cardigans, plaids, and absolutely do not ask him to cut his hair, he will run away from a barber within an inch of his life - idk any minnesota voice actors so his voiceclaim is hosea matthews from red dead redemption 2 bc I said so - I think him and wayne are besties, jus' someone to talk to when wayne's havin' rough times marilyn whiskers ( she / her ) - 35 years old - inspo is absolutely klaasje amandou from disco elsium and mary from silent hill 2 and so much so to the point mary's voice actor from silent hill 2 is who I imagine her voice to sound like - kind of like glinda the good witch of the south in how she is even though she's a very dubious person but, she tries to be good, emphasis on tries - partially works at the tender trap, but she doesn't exactly talk about it, and is actively studying for a degree as a nurse - marilyn does come from a very good family, and always sort of lived around theodore even if she was constantly everywhere and never liked sticking around, always makes checks out to him as a means to help out and provide - spite of having a family with a bit of money to their name, she doesn't keep contact much, considers theodore as her only family given her lifestyle wasn't one very much favored, therefore, she keeps a distance - likely talks to dot a whole lot, and always does so whenever she's in town to see theodore idk that's pretty much it but they rot my brain a lil' bit, I'll share colors and more doodles later

I say, as a society we should all take turns beating up indira's stupid ass ex-husband because FUCK HIS ASS !!!! I do think overexposure is a reason people are so bitchy about people enjoying gator as a character. Which like, I get- the fargo tag is mostly him, that's gotta be so annoying if you're a fargo fan (much like its impossible to peruse the stranger things tag if you dont love eddie munson 🙄). It's stupid really, because it's not really an objective annoyance, it's fandom related*. A lot of people don't seem to have the ability to block those 'OMG MY BBY HES SO PRECIOUS' people and instead fume about it until they've decided everyone who enjoys that character is like that. I've been on both sides of that in the last 15 years. Everyone needs to just calm down, smoke some weed if you partake, and remember it's all fiction. (*not to say people don't have legit reasons, ie sexism racism ect, to dislike the character, but that's not the reasons I've been seeing. Plus hes deliberately written like that for a reason, story wise. Its kinda the point. These are the kind of attitudes being challenged by dot's humanity)

NO EXACTLY BECAUSE IT LOWKEY IS OVEREXPOSURE and if I'm honest I also think it does not at all help that there has been an underwhelming amount of attention on fargo season five in general, because like. the ratio of content even on tiktok astounds me that there was next to none and I am hopeful that people will talk more about other characters

hell lowkey it would surprise people that I made the gator edit I did as a slight after thought because I began to like him more in terms of recent episodes where his behavior didn't just feel like he was antagonistic and you got to see more of them and ironically it was like, the less interactions he had with his dad and with other people who definitely clocked his shitty behavior, the more you saw him grow further from the path of " trying to be him " with dot, witt, etc. especially dot ngl

like I have seen this even in other fandoms I like and the most I have hoped to combat it is through doing fanart of dot and characters and trying to even think up edits ( thankfully a whole scenepack for the ENTIRE season was put out by an editor who I contacted who said they would do it and finally I can do dot and ole munch stuff )

but in general, I love gator, I get the hate but it's like, every fandom really will just have a moment of a lot of charas being overlooked and at least in some of the bigger fandoms this happens but lowkey also smaller fandoms like

I love alice wake from the alan wake franchise, I have been priming myself to draw here but there is like lowkey a veryyy small number of people who talk about her even though her documentary videos in alan wake 2 are so fucking emotional and get to me a lot

and hell, like you said it isn't even people hating folks who like him for that reason, it's just lumping every single enjoyer into one and I do not dig that the original folk who made the link just even tried to be like " oh gator is not even a physical abuse victim because his abuse was rarely shown compared to dot" and I will say to that: fargo season five is DOT's story, it's her abuse, and just because we don't see gator's own side of it doesn't mean we should ignore the glimpses and subtle details in his interactions and scenes where it heavily shows how much gator has been morphed by the people he was forced to grow up with and stick by, even as an adult

like he is apart of the discussion just like every other character and he is very much an example of people I even know who are like that, who ironically are my own siblings who I still live with
