Just adding my two cents, my gut tells me this is just a deleted scene from A2. It all just looks too similar to the "awakening" scene, like maybe they were gonna include Quaritch waking up some of his other soldiers but cut it for time/relevance. But it would be cool if it was a scene from A3! Unfortunately, there's so little info, the only answer is just to wait and see. Plus, it was confirmed that Mansk died on the sea dragon, in the extended fight scene Jake kills him, it was cut from the full version of the movie for being too violent, so even if it is an A3 scene, it's not mansk but a new recom.

Us avatar fans are gonna slowly lose our minds overanalyzing every little detail of BTS footage for clues for the next year and a half, huh 😭😭😭

Chapter 40: Old Friends & New Family

Oh yeah, I heard about that and honestly, I'm a little relieved. One of A2's biggest weaknesses was that it couldn't fully balance all the new and old characters, leaving some of them disproportionately underdeveloped relative to the impact they had on the plot (namely neytiri and spider, and also kiri, neteyam, and recom-quaritch to a lesser extent). We know that in A3 we're getting another major antagonist, Varang, as well as another minor protagonist, Peylak, and it was also confirmed that Selfridge will return. With all these new characters getting introduced on top of the already large cast, I was worried that A2's issues with balancing the ensemble cast would just get even worse in A3, so it's nice to hear that one of the important new characters won't be introduced just yet.

I'm curious to see what kind of character Dr. Mogue will be, but with everything else happening in A3, I don't mind waiting a few more years to get to meet her!

And not to go off on a tangent, but now I'm thinking more about how the ensemble cast screentime division will play out in Avatar 3 with so many characters to focus on, new and old.

Obviously, the remaining members of the Sully family will be important. Personally hope that Jake will take a bit of a backseat. It's nothing against him, its just that he already got the whole first movie as the main character and was second only to Lo'ak in A2, so I'm ready for someone else to get the limelight. Namely Neytiri! She got sidelined so bad in A2 and I want to see her get screentime where she actually has agency and character development and isn't just relegated to the love interest and mother role! James Cameron has also alluded a lot to the characters getting pushed to their limits, experiencing "fiery rage" and then having to deal with the "ashes" of their consequences, and I definitely feel like Neytiri will be in the center of whatever that means. The Parents from Hell scene was just a taste of what we will we see from her.

Lo'ak will be the narrator, so of course he will have a big focus, but since he had SO MUCH screentime in A2, I hope he'll be a bit like Jake in A2, where even though he's the narrator he's not necessarily the main Main Character. If A3 is going to have a Main Character that sticks out from the ensemble, I hope it's Kiri. A2 set up and hinted at a lot going on with her, but ultimately didn't do much. I want to see more of her. But I also accept that it's very possible Lo'ak will continue to get a big focus, which I'm okay with, I just personally found him a bit less compelling than some of the other characters. Since JC confirmed each avatar movie will have a different narrator, I hope it won't be like Lo'ak taking the mantle from Jake and becoming The Main Character, and instead we stick with this new ensemble cast direction, cause there's so many cool characters that I don't want to focus on just one as the main guy.

And Tuk will just be Tuk ha ha, she's still a little kid so i'm sure she'll just do more of what she did in A2, being adorable and sassy and occasionally getting used as a hostage.

Spider is another character I definitely want to see more of! (And I'm not just saying that cause he's my favorite) It's confirmed that he will be very important going forward, specifically as Jake and Quaritch's relationship to each other changes over the course of the series, and that's not even getting into all the leaked stuff about him, which I'm not going to cause I've already talked about it ad nauseum.

And speaking of Spider, Quaritch is yet another character that will need a focus. I don't think he's getting a zuko-style redemption arc or anything, but there's definitely going to be some drastic changes to his character, as well as changes to his relationship with Jake. As JC said, it's not going to be about revenge anymore, so even though they'll never be friends or true allies, something serious is going to happen between them, and I'm sure Spider will be in the middle of it.

As the new antagonist, Varang is going to need to be given time so the audience can get to know her and understand her motivations and the threat she poses. But we also already have Quaritch filling the role of the complex villain who has more sides to him than just being a villain now, so as long as Varang gets enough time to establish her as a good villain, I don't think she needs too much time delving into her character when there are main characters in need of more focus.

Peylak is also a new character who will be introduced to us, but for some reason I get the vibes that he'll be more of a secondary character, like Norm or something, so I don't think they'll spend too much time on him.

And as for the reef clan, I have a feeling that in A3, Tonowari, Ronal, Tsireya, and Aonung will take a backseat. We'll still see them of course, we need to see Ronal's baby and see Tsireya develop her relationship with Lo'ak, but they'll be like Mo'at and Norm in A2, where we see them for a few scenes but they don't really get a focus. Avatar 3 needs to introduce us to two whole new regions and clans, so just how the forest was left behind in A2, I think the reef will be left behind in A3.

I think the other original characters like Mo'at, Norm, Max, and Selfridge, will also have small roles again.

So I guess to sum all my thoughts up in a simpler way, this is how I hope/predict Avatar 3 will focus on all the characters:

The Main Character: Kiri or Lo'ak

Main characters with a focus: Neytiri, Lo'ak or Kiri, Spider, Quaritch

Main characters with less of a focus: Jake, Tuk, Varang

Side characters: Mo'at, Norm, Max, Peylak, Tonowari, Ronal, Tsireya, Aonung, Selfridge, Scoresby, Garvin, Wainfleet

I finally made a songcord!

The base is made from thread and amazonite beads from a craft store, I alternated the spiral staircase and square knot braiding style for the cord itself, and everything else are materials I found in nature or were given to me. This was so much fun to make. It's been a long time since I've sat down and made something tangible with my hands, it was almost therapeutic.
