The realizations of your late 20s. The subtle ones. Standing in your kitchen and wondering how long it would go on like this. Replacing white sugar with brown and feeling like a fool. Looking at people talking about mental health in their stories and then reading the tone of their texts on your phone. Learning to embrace those fine lines. Telling yourself you'd cry less. Wanting to apologize for hurting that girl from high school. Watching yourself in the mirror and being sucker-punched by the fact that you still haven't changed at all. You bully yourself into believing you deserve this now. Not going to the kitchen and opening the fridge out of habit anymore because the comfort of that was your mother's presence in the room. The fact that it's been years since you really slept. Years. Hating refined sugar even though brown doesn't make much difference. Feeling the taste of that sugar in your mouth as you write this, read this. The subtle realizations of your 20s. The brutal ones.
