I Mean This In The Nicest Way Possible, But The Fandoms Habit Of Not Applying The Same Reasoning To Similar

i mean this in the nicest way possible, but the fandom’s habit of not applying the same reasoning to similar situations is both frustrating and unhealthy.

if you’re going to say that what one character says is absolutely how that character truly feels, even if that’s said in anger or frustration, then you need to apply that to the rest. if c!dream saying he doesn’t care about anything is absolute truth, then c!tommy saying the same about the discs being worth more than c!tubbo is absolute truth.

it’s not, however, and we know this because people are not black and white, they’re complex, and sometimes say things they don’t mean. we can look beyond the words and see the person and the emotions behind it.

i feel like this also applies to things like the prison and exile. no, prison in minecraft isn’t comparable to prison in real life. neither is abuse in minecraft roleplay because it’s fiction. however, the story gives those things weight. treating one thing or the other as less awful or impactful is honestly fairly disingenuous. the story gives equal weight to both the prison and exile. saying that prison isn’t bad because c!dream isn’t actually there, etc. just isn’t valid.

and the thing is, no one is obligated to care about any one character. you’re not obligated to think the prison is awful. but framing it as fact isn’t accurate because the story gives it weight. the story says it is.

honestly, i feel like this has a lot to do with the way not only the fandom, but some of the characters, approach the concept of ‘good’ and ‘evil’. it becomes a very black and white thing where if a character is considered good, everything they do is good and morally correct and when they do something to hurt someone, it’s dismissed or excused. if a character is considered evil, everything they do is bad and morally wrong and when they do something good or show emotion, it’s painted as manipulative, and if they’re hurt, that hurt is dismissed or diminished. just something to think about.

What If I Let C!dream Escape Prison And Live Reletively Peacefully Away From The Smp. What If I Did That

the way that people just blatantly and uncritically lie about dream and get away with it because people think it's Fun to believe that a popular streamer is a terrible person (and therefore free game to mock) is going to give me an aneurysm

people will weaponize someone donating hundreds of thousands of dollars into lgbt+ suicide prevention against them (by just blatantly lying) and then turn around and act like it's the minecraft streamers that are just using lgbt+ people for clout.

you guys get that just because dream isn't a minor that doesn't mean it isn't still Weird to obsessively lie about a 21 year old to try to destroy their career and encourage harassment and doxing For Fun right? because it's obviously not being done to help keep people safe

someone can dig up a picture of a random guy, post it claiming it's dream with no sources, and the reaction isn't "you're either actively doxing a 21 year old or trying to pressure a 21 year old into overstepping boundaries with their body that they've deliberately placed for their own sense of comfort and safety," it was to instantly fat shame and mock this poor random guy with the excuse that he was labeled with dream's name.

it's genuinely insane how Blatant this smear campaign is and how little it's acknowledged that that's what it is. dream is treated like a controversial gamer man up there with the nazis and offenders (which I've seen direct comparisons to), when literally all he is is a young adult who got popular faster than he knew what to do with whose trying to put in the effort to be open and inclusive in a way that the gaming space Hasn't Been.

yes he has genuine fuck ups, but he doesn't deserve this. Nobody deserves this
