The Server Is FULL Of Morally Grey People - Tumblr Posts

i mean this in the nicest way possible, but the fandom’s habit of not applying the same reasoning to similar situations is both frustrating and unhealthy.

if you’re going to say that what one character says is absolutely how that character truly feels, even if that’s said in anger or frustration, then you need to apply that to the rest. if c!dream saying he doesn’t care about anything is absolute truth, then c!tommy saying the same about the discs being worth more than c!tubbo is absolute truth.

it’s not, however, and we know this because people are not black and white, they’re complex, and sometimes say things they don’t mean. we can look beyond the words and see the person and the emotions behind it.

i feel like this also applies to things like the prison and exile. no, prison in minecraft isn’t comparable to prison in real life. neither is abuse in minecraft roleplay because it’s fiction. however, the story gives those things weight. treating one thing or the other as less awful or impactful is honestly fairly disingenuous. the story gives equal weight to both the prison and exile. saying that prison isn’t bad because c!dream isn’t actually there, etc. just isn’t valid.

and the thing is, no one is obligated to care about any one character. you’re not obligated to think the prison is awful. but framing it as fact isn’t accurate because the story gives it weight. the story says it is.

honestly, i feel like this has a lot to do with the way not only the fandom, but some of the characters, approach the concept of ‘good’ and ‘evil’. it becomes a very black and white thing where if a character is considered good, everything they do is good and morally correct and when they do something to hurt someone, it’s dismissed or excused. if a character is considered evil, everything they do is bad and morally wrong and when they do something good or show emotion, it’s painted as manipulative, and if they’re hurt, that hurt is dismissed or diminished. just something to think about.
