i have so much to say about dead boy detectives, but what's hurting me the most (but also keeping me the most motivated!) is how obvious it is that it was made with love.
it wasn't just made to make money! it was made to tell a beautiful story of love (in all of its forms). it's the first live action show i've watched in a long time that actually feels like it was made for the sake of making ART and sharing a worthwhile message to its audience. i haven't loved a show this deeply in well over a decade, and as an artist, it's so disheartening to see art constantly be thrown away.
i'm so sick and tired of shows that are just meant to fill our already limited time with... nothing! shows that keep getting renewed today, wouldn't have made it past a single season or even the pilot 20 years ago! the industry has ruined our attention spans just so they can shill us mediocre and unfinished projects because who is actually watching, right? we need to show them that we are paying attention and that we have no intention of wasting our precious time on meaningless "content."
i know this has all been said before, but i'm still so angry over this. i'll continue to let my anger fuel the effort, though!
keep up the great work, everyone, but please remember to prioritize your health and well-being!

Has anyone else also been asking about a DVD release of Dead Boy Detectives? Like I definitely want the show to come back but if that doesn't happen I need it to be on DVD so that it won't just end up disappearing into a void at some point in the future.
Not just that but I want all those things that DVDs come with: special features, interviews, blooper reels, commentary tracks, etc.
Seeing some of the cast and crew posting on social media I'd just love commentary tracks from so many of them, not just the directors/showrunner/cast but ALSO people from the writers room, you learn so many interesting behind the scenes stuff from these and I miss getting them for shows. The ones that were on the Stargate Atlantis DVDs are some of my favourites.

yknow what i find interesting? the cat king's cat body language. like the way it changes until he shapeshifts back to human in that first meeting? pure gold actually, kudos for the kitty playing the part
the first shot we get of him has our darling king in a pretty calm posture. he's lying down on his side, his ears are forward, he's looking straight at the group, but his pupils are still pretty big. his tail is extended but relaxed. all of that points to him being, at most, interested in the wonder trio, but still showing he's dominating the situation (that's the looking right at them part mostly)
that changes when they actually get closer. we see him lower his head a bit, and the tip of his tail starts flicking. those are both things cat do when focused, and it's a stance closer to the one they use when hunting, but the fact that only the tip of tail is moving also means a little bit of playfulness is involved.
and then! it actually changes again!! when crystal says that "it's just a bunch of cats" and it pans out to the dude's corpse on the floor, the king starts pretty much wagging his whole tail! he is not happy that someone (who may or may not be the one who trapped his cat) decided to underestimate his subjects. a wagging tail in cats differs from the one in dogs cause it's often used to convey frustration or annoyance instead of excitement.
and it isn't a slow wag either (that would mean some form of relaxation still)! that tail is full-on irritation that someone insulted his people!
i am losing my mind over this so it had to be set out there for everyone else to be exposed but! it's so cool!
So many questions. So curious about this plotline and about how Crystal handles the rest of it, and how that interacts with her relationship with her memories (and with her powers, and with her ancestors, and with the boys…)
But I also have questions about David the human:
How much does he know/remember? (He doesn't seem to know or remember where he is or why he's there at the very least…)
Was David the human guy dating Crystal while she was possessed by the demon, or did he just go off somewhere else after that, and then get re-possessed by the same demon when the demon was cast out of Crystal? Is there something specific about David the human guy that was appealing to David the demon, or does he just have the worst luck ever?
Is David the human guy's name or the demon's name? Or both?
Is David going to be okay getting back to London? Does he have a place to stay in Port Townsend for the night? Does he have his passport with him? Is he ever going to get the smell of rotting fish out of those clothes?
Many, many questions (that are also not answered by the comics, apparently)
what i hate about the netflix cancellation of dbda is that we show fans (Aka ppl who have never read the comics) will never find out what happens to david in the aftermath of crystal's battle. i'm talking both the demon and the human. like they deadass just left him there. what is he to do now? who is he? where did he come from? what happens now? also i'm curious about the demon's origins. who is he? what is his true form? what is his real name? i have so many questions? help???

We also are aware of people discussing about sending Red Sea Glass and Spaghetti in the mail and we would like to ask that you DO NOT send those.
We understand the significance of both of those items in the show, but they are both Health and Safety risks and could discredit the entire campaign.
The red sea glass is a cute idea, but MANY PEOPLE have been only calling it "red glass" & do not realize that people on the internet will take things literally.
That could put people receiving the packages at risk to receive sharp objects which is a SAFETY RISK.
Spaghetti, cooked or not is a HEALTH RISK. Just don't send food in the mail please. <3

We got a suggestion by a lovely follower about paper origami bowties, with #SaveDeadBoyDetectives written on them and we think this is a lovely idea! We will share an infographic on how to make the bowties later on when sending things in the mail is discussed more thoroughly.
actually, just looking at it from a general, logical point of view, cancelling Dead Boy Detectives doesn't make any goddamn sense.
The few shows Netflix actually keeps alive until the end for them to build a huge fanbase have ended or will end in the near future.
TUA ended this year, Stranger Things s5 (its final season) is set for 2025, Arcane s2 (its final season as well) will be released in November.
Netflix, you don't really have any major shows anymore. You've killed every show with the potential to grow as big as those mentioned above.
With DBDA connected with the Sandman Universe, there was so much potential for this show to become even more of a hit than it already is. It could've been one of those shows that the viewers grow up with.

I keep thinking about Niko becoming the Principal, and I think it's really important for the show thematically. Rant incoming. Something I really appreciate about Dead Boy Detectives is that it doesn't shy away from how unfair and unjust the world can be. Edwin is sent to Hell along with his bullies on a "technicality." Charles is murdered because he tried to save someone. And it doesn't stop there. In Port Townsend, they save a little girl, and a witch spends the rest of the season trying to get revenge. The Lost and Found department is only able to catch them because they save the Devlin family; the Night Nurse can't get the paperwork approved until she learns their exact location. In the world of DBDA, doing the right thing isn't necessarily rewarded. Sometimes, it's actively punished. But the show is always clear that it's important to keep trying, to keep being kind, and to keep connecting with other people anyway. So when Niko says, "You never know when the good you do will come back around," she's not saying that the world is suddenly going to be fair. She's not saying that "the universe" is going to magically reward them for good behavior. She's saying that they made a difference in her life, and as a result, now she can be there to make a difference in theirs. The world may not be fair, but WE can be there to help each other. And I think that's beautiful.

The Case in which we save dbd 🗣❗️
No one is doing it like Niko. She will come save you from a haunted house. The tiny voices in her head telling her she's horrible are outside her head and also parasites. She keeps looking at the magic 8-ball that tells you when you're going to die which is telling her that she's going to die and going "I'm fine!"
So as I've been rewatching, in light of the recent spoilers from Steve Yockey regarding Niko, I've been thinking about something…
At first Niko says the Magic 8-Ball must be broken because it says "Outlook Not So Good." Then in Episode 08, after she's rescued from the debris, she says she almost died and wonders if that's why the Magic 8-Ball said "Outlook Not So Good."
But what if it's neither one?
After all, it's a Magic 8-Ball that tells you when you'll die.
And if death is not available to the Principal, the way death is not available to the Night Nurse…
Then maybe it can't tell her when she'll die, because she won't. Maybe the chances of her dying (ever? any time soon?) are… not so good.
I'm not sure. But it's interesting to think about.
