My theory is that the cube itself is not a key, but rather some sort of a magic detector, which can find the actual key- a person/being that can use all primal sources or just more than one. 

We’ve seen the cube lighten up when it was close to someone/something wielding a primal source, like Bait or Rayla. Maybe if someone unlocked two or more arcana, two or more symbols would light up. 

Callum has already unlocked two and maybe it’s enough or Aaravos is waiting for him to unlock all. The latter is, in my opinion, less probable bc Aaravos says that ‘his freedom is near’. But, what if by ‘near’ he means ‘closer than before’? Also, Aaravos is 5000 years old (and Startouch elves can probably reach even more), so he probably experiences time differently than humans. So all the time it takes Callum to unlock all arcana would probably mean nothing to him.

(If Callum unlocks an arcanum once every 2 years, he’ll be able to use all in around 8 years. What is 8 years, when compared to 300 years of isolation and 5000 years of your life)

I'm a bit concerned by the fact that Aaravos seemed pretty sure that his freedom was near during the last episode

As I stated in my previous post, I don't think that the key of Aaravos is the key to his prison... So what is the key to his prison? Maybe there's a dark magic spell that Aaravos would've taught Viren/Claudia to free him but he didn't even know where his prison was so how would he know the spell? Maybe he wanted to do a transfer, put Viren/Claudia in his place so that he can be free

OR... or Aaravos planned on Callum and the gang catching up to them? Maybe he wanted Claudia to lose. I should probably rewatch season 3-5 to see if it directly contradicts stuff he said, but I think it would be very on brand with the "mastermind manipulator who's always a step ahead" idea

Does Callum have something that could open his prison? Is the Key of Aaravos actually the key to his prison? What can Callum do that dark magic can't?
