so let's start with the obvious discourse: mr. hobert has been surprising me.

first he makes my emo dreams come true and then he plays songs at his pre-release party that let me know that HE HAS BEEN AT SOME COOKOUTS.

and my first thought listening to the new album was: who let him listen to wu-tang? 🤩 it's very cool to hear the musical influences in his own personal taste on an album that is different enough from hope world to be its own thing while also of course still musically be a continuing thread of that album.

i've been displaying bot behavior with "more" because i've always loved rock music and i'm a child of the 90's who is always suffering from nostalgia and this song and the video especially have that 90's rock feeling to them from that first drum beat of the song to the video itself - i remember many a rock and rap video in the 90's where the plot was basically "capitalism is the worst and we're tired of the rat race and also fuck my boss". the scene where hobi becomes the office hero by besting The Man was such a great throwback.

and i was so excited to see that because it looks and feels very genuine in his music. i think there are artists that seek to recreate those sounds bc it can be fashionable but bc those artists don't care about the music or really feel anything about it, you can feel when it's corny and misplaced and i have not felt that way with jack in the box.

it made me feel special that you were so concerned about me being gone 😭 that was actually a nice push to come back - to see that someone really cared about me and this little corner of the world we've been creating.

months ago, before the streets were calling my name, before my disappearance, i had been working on this collection of stories that i was excited to share but have been hush about bc (1), if i share the news too soon, i might not ever finish it lmao and (2) i'm so slow that i wanted to have at least half of the series finished before starting to post anything so i could feel what it's like to be the sort of prolific tumblr writer that posts REGULARLY. ugh just imagine not having the attention span of a poodle.

but then - and this is where the human mind gets ridiculous - i discovered a just released collection of stories revolving around the same basic idea and i was BUMMED. and it's dumb bc of course there are so many tropes that are present in the world of fiction and we all have our different styles of writing that really, i knew in my logical brain that what i was writing was undoubtedly going to be different just by virtue of the fact that it was me writing it and it was going to center black/brown readers and that would add another layer and even if the same people ended up reading both, it would be less like "ugh look at this knock off" and more like "OMG LOOK THERE'S EVEN MORE SMUT TO READ".

.....but my illogical brain was like "why even bother?" And so that led to me not wanting to write ANYTHING so I was taking a break from writing for a little while that turned into a longer while.

those feelings worsened a little while when it was first announced that BTS was going on a "hiatus". when i initially heard the news, it wasn't even them that i was worried about because i'm excited to see each of them shine in solo projects and i knew it wasn't the end even without them needing to clarify, but i was reminded of when GOT7 left JYP and it got really quiet and inactive in that community - at least as far as i was seeing. so i got further discouraged to think of that happening in this community 😞but then omg - these 7 men have me RUNNING LAPS LATELY. they've been making my head spin with just how active and still together they are and i started venturing onto tumblr again and i see that we're all still here and there are still spaces for us all to fill and i'm loving that i came back to SO MUCH ACTIVITY from everyone that i follow and i even saw a little uptick in likes on some of my posts and it killed me with kindness.

so i apologize for the sudden and extended disappearance but i am here again and ready to scream about all the things with you again 💜💜💜
