#also i always forget how well reid got along with cory until i rewatch the episode </3 #he thought he found sometime he related to and was like "oh nvm. he's a murderer. well hopefully this never happens again!"
A man in a brown coat stands in an office cubicle, holding a pigskin football in his hands and looking down at it. On the ledge in front of him are several trophies, and several articles tacked up on the wall. The subtitle at the bottom of the image reads: CORY: "Do you play ball?"
The man holding the pigskin football has turned around to face the out-of-focus figure of a teenage boy in a blue varsity jacket. He is smiling, clearly amused. The subtitle at the bottom of the image reads: "No."

Reid's little laugh when Cory asks him if he plays ball is so funny. Does he look like he does? That man was the ball.

Outdoors during the day, a man in a dark shirt cradles the face and head of a brunette laying on the ground, only part of his head visible. He is smiling. The subtitle at the bottom of the image reads: "It's okay."

having Thoughts about gideon comforting johnny mulford while he dies, mostly "why him?" neither of the mulfords are what i would consider to be among the ranks of the "sympathetic" unsubs, although johnny is definitely more sympathetic and they're not among the least sympathetic either—there's a definite "never had a chance" feeling about them both (particularly johnny)

it might just be that at the moment, all gideon is seeing is a kid who's afraid to die, because johnny is only twenty-two. i wonder a little bit if it's partially because there are some very slight similarities to reid. (both have abandonment issues, both had a severely mentally ill person as their primary caregiver, and johnny specifically shares some (again, very slight) physical similarities with reid. this is also only six episodes after gideon watched reid (temporarily) die and could do nothing about it, so maybe he's projecting reid onto somebody he can comfort. but i'll be honest im not super confident about that analysis lmao. i think it's largely just that johnny is super young and afraid and all gideon is seeing at the moment is a frightened kid, with his relationship with reid possibly contributing. regardless i just think it's an interesting action for gideon to take.

HELP i didnt notice the first time i watched this ep that reid tucks his tie into his vest after she tugs on it 😭

Outdoors at night, a woman tugs on a the tie of a man in a button-up and sweater vest. He smiles awkwardly and tucks it into his vest.

Indoors, a woman in white medical scrubs tilts her head up, eyes wet, clearly trying not to cry. The subtitle at the bottom of the image reads: "They're just outside in the waiting room."

I don't recall if hotch's religious beliefs are ever discussed, but ive always gotten the sense that he was. probably catholic?

anyway. i wonder if, from his perspective, he wasn't lying here.

(for a refresher: this is 2x19, ashes & dust. they're speaking to a woman who was in a fire with her husband and son, of which she was the only survivor. she is unaware her husband and son are gone, and hotch and emily have been informed that "whatever they say, she won't live long enough to know the difference.")

anyway: last thing about the fox.

I think the order in which the team reacts to frank fielding* hurting himself is pretty interesting.

A man wearing a plaid shirt indoors. The subtitles at the bottom of the image read:
 -"Frank, Frank."
and
-"Let go!"
A man in a light coloured collared shirt is mid sentence against a dark background. In the foreground is the blurry and out-of-focus figure of someone mid-movement. The subtitles at the bottom of the image are still:
-"Frank, Frank."
and
-"Let go!"

Gideon and Morgan are first, simply because they're the ones closest.

Two figures running into a room, one man and one woman. The man is further to the left inside the room and partially offscreen, and the woman is just entering the room from the right. Both are mid-movement. The subtitle at the bottom of the image reads: "No. No!"

Hotch and Elle are next, with Elle a little behind...

Three men, one mostly out of sight, restrain a fourth man against a wall. A woman stands off to the left, away from the altercation. The subtitle at the bottom of the image reads: "No!"

But when it comes to actually restraining Frank, Elle, who is still new and less experienced, lingers behind. If you watch the scene carefully, she actually backs away, too.

A man wearing a black vest over a red and white patterned shirt stands just past the doorway between a brightly lit and dimly room, closer to the dimly lit room on the left side.

And finally, Reid stands at the very back. He enters the room but doesn't go any further, and the camera pans down to show him rocking back and forth on his feet, like he can't decide if he wants to run into or out of the room. I think it's possible that Diana self-harmed at some point in the past (although granted, the self-harm in this scene is a different "type") and he may have been having some unpleasant memories.

*the brother of one of the victims, who goes to her house despite her husband not wanting him there, is seen by her through the window, and thinks she mouths "go away" at him when she actually mouths "help me"
