honestly, I hate that this fandom is giving hussie shit even now

especially when a fuckton of this fandom claims to have healed through the community, and he’s hinted heavily as struggling with anxiety/depression while dealing with this webcomic, the legal shit that was rumored about hiveswap, moving part of the way through, managing merchandising and multiple other artists and their royalties, etc 

like if you’re gonna be supportive of anyone in this goddamn fandom, be supportive of the prick who’s dealt with all of your constant bickering and over-the-top obsessions for seven years 

homestuck was never supposed to be this big. he knew where it was supposed to go. it just spiraled until it ended. he’s living the dream you all hope for except imagine yourselves bickering at yourselves because you’d hate yourselves after a while, trust me. 

I’m really glad hussie stuck it through and unless he truly does something visibly shitty after this point, I’m going to remain supportive of him

I still really do think it's an adjustment problem since we readers aren't at all susceptible to a straightforward open-ended ending to a long winded and rather complicated webcomic.

I am personally really satisfied on the resolution of all character arcs. However, the reason why I really wanted to see more is because...

Of Caliborn's masterpiece.

It just really bothered me what happened with it. Caliborn said that that will take place during the very end. And... it wasn't even referenced one bit.

But overall I think all the characters got a perfectly open ending. I couldn't ask for more, but I can see why people would.

Still great though, no hard feelings to Hussie :)

i’ve been talking about this on twitter but i think a lack of a character limit is more conducive to me gathering my thoughts on homestuck’s ending

i think the reason why the ending comes off as unsatisfying is that it’s in the wrong order. and not just chronologically, but structurally

literally the very last thing to happen in the comic is the final piece of caliborn’s story. what little denouement we get happens BEFORE that, before we’re sure what happened with the villain. while the intense music is still going, before it feels like anything’s been resolved, “thanks for playing” shows up in the sky as we see a glimpse of the future

so like, the story did wrap up okay (even if there are a lot of characters still unaccounted for), but it doesn’t feel like it did because the denouement was basically chopped up and interspersed with the climax. the heroes’ arcs got wrapped up while preparing for the final battle, and we saw everyone gathering in the wake of the big fight before we even got to see what happened with LE

also, like. homestuck relies very heavily on dialogue. the character interactions are why most people read the comic, and every confusing flash was generally followed by some conversations where characters explain what the fuck just happened

but we don’t get that now. we get an excellently animated but confusing finale that makes us figure out what maybe happened on our own, with no real, solid glimpse at how the characters are doing now that the fight is over

so like, almost all the pieces are there for a good ending? just told in the least satisfying way possible, ending on an image of caliborn screaming and leaving you to ask “is that it?” even though it’s the conclusion to literally the longest webcomic of all time
