however I do think that any other day the duel would not have happened the way it did. I don't know how exactly it would have gone but I think the fact that Ed wound up frozen in a corner clinging to a rope and looking away was down to he's literally still coming down from a fucking flashback triggered by this exact thing. I think on any other day Ed either would have started shit with Izzy himself OR been right there with the crew cheering Stede on before tripping Izzy either directly into Stede's sword or overboard with a banana peel or something equally silly
