Jesus’ word in today’s scripture is perhaps one of the strongest and most direct instructions and warnings He gives about one of two paths that people will choose to take in life. So here is His message – plain and simple; You don’t have to do anything to be on the wrong road - all you have to do is do NOTHING and just follow the crowd. The question is “why is this so?” and Jesus answers that by saying:
“The lure of wealth and the Desire for pleasure and comfort Crowd out any thoughts of God and His promises and all thoughts of the consequences of eternity.” Mark 4:19 (Highly Paraphrased for clarity of message)
You see, in this life the broad road is wide and easy with plenty of room for everyone. It’s also more pleasurable and fun and since most people are also on it, it’s both familiar and natural too. Thoughts of the hereafter are not on people’s minds on this path because as Jesus said, any spiritual thoughts are crowded out by those things that distract and mislead.
Listen please! There IS a HEAVEN and there IS a HELL. The road to destruction is easily taken and it is an eternally fateful mistake to not be purposeful to walk the narrow path that leads to an eternity in heaven.
Friend, please take an honest look at your life and ask yourself - Which road are YOU on? If you are not on the right road, don’t do nothing. Change your direction and choose to walk on the narrow path to LIFE!!

If you are lost, you need a compass, but even if you have one, which direction is YOUR compass pointing? A compass has 360 points, so the question is, is your needle pointing true north, or one of 359 other degrees that will lead you astray?
You see, in this life we all are 'lost' on our path to eternity, so we need a true compass to lead us to safety. The question is where do we find this compass of life, and what direction does it say we should go?
Jesus gave us the answer when He said:
“ I am the way, The truth, and The life. No man cometh unto the Father, BUT BY ME.” John 14:6
You see, the compass Christ gives us will always point 'True North' and just like today’s scripture will always point us on The Way To God.
When you follow HIS Pointer, it will ALWAYS point you to SAFETY.

Towering over two thousand feet above Rio de Janeiro stands Corcovado, the famous statue of Christ that sits dramatically above this beautiful South American city. The only way to walk to the top requires traveling up a single steep, challenging, twisting road. I should know as I hiked both up and down it and it was the toughest hike of my life!
If you were in Rio, and I were to ask you how to get to the top of Corcovado and you were to say that there were lots of different ways, it would be obvious that either you didn’t know or you actually thought that you did know. Others have actually said something similar regarding how to get to heaven.
Oprah Winfrey once famously proclaimed on her TV show that there were many roads to God (be it Buddha, Confucius, Allah, Self-Realization, 'Being Spiritual,' or just being a good moral person.) Sadly, this is also what many people also think and believe, but just like Corcovado there is only one road to get there, and this is to and through the Cross of Christ.
The next verse after today’s scripture speaks of an alternate route - a wide road that most people travel, but that road does not lead to the eternity that they had hoped. In fact the word in the original language says that it actually leads to the way of destruction.
Friend, you can believe any map that you feel leads you to heaven and God - or even no god at all. The question you have to answer, is which road is the right road? “Are there many roads to heaven, or just one road?”
Which road are you going to choose?

An artist friend and I once were in a little country antique store. From floor to ceiling were interesting items from home, farm, and field. As we walked through there on a hot, humid afternoon, she suddenly stopped at one picture that was not hidden behind piles of junk. It was a painting that she had created many years ago that had become LOST over time into the world but now was FOUND, and she immediately REDEEMED it, joyously bringing it back to herself.
Likewise, we are like that lost painting! We were made by our creator, LOST in this world, but have always been a precious picture in God’s eyes. Just like my artist friend, God also delights in finding and redeeming us back and does so with something far great than money, and that is the Blood of Christ which was paid for our redemption.
Friend, the Bible tells us that Christ came into this 'store of the world' to “To seek and to save that which was LOST.” [ Luke 19:10 ] There’s just one catch! Don’t be hiding behind the junk of this world, but be open to being found!
While God is seeking you, you ought also to be seeking Him.
Are you open to being found?
