I don’t think people know how important actually folklore and mythology can be when it comes to some countries.

Maybe it’s just me but it always like a portal allowing you to see how it was at that time, the intentions behind a making of a folklore as examples could tell the current problem.

Most stories are(as far I know most) made to scare children into not doing something, looking what they’re supposed to be scared of you can guess what time it’s from or why it was made.
