I'm sure someone already pointed this out a long time ago, but I've only just realised why Bill surrounded himself like this around Ford.

Obviously, it was so he could be an annoying little shit, but also because he used to see Ford exactly like this — watching him from every angle, and so Bill could be the only thing Ford saw, just as he did before.
