Acing Your Finals: Tips and Tricks to Succeed in School

January 25, 2024

It's that time of the year again – finals season! As students, we all experience a mixture of stress and excitement during this period. However, with proper planning and effective strategies, you can conquer your exams with confidence. In this blog post, we will share some valuable tips and tricks to help you get through your finals successfully.
1. Start early and create a study schedule: Procrastination is an enemy you must defeat when it comes to preparing for finals. Starting early allows you to cover material thoroughly without cramming. Create a realistic study schedule that allocates specific times for each subject or topic, ensuring you have ample time to revise before the exam day.
2. Organize your study space: A cluttered desk equals a cluttered mind. Find a quiet, well-lit area where you can focus solely on your studies. Keep all necessary materials like textbooks, notebooks, and stationery within reach so that you don't waste precious studying time searching for them.
3. Use active learning techniques: Instead of passively reading through notes or textbooks, engage in active learning techniques such as summarizing information in your own words, teaching concepts to others (or even imaginary friends!), creating flashcards, or practicing problem-solving exercises. Active learning enhances understanding and retention of knowledge.
4. Prioritize challenging subjects/topics: Identify the subjects or topics that pose significant challenges for you and allocate more study time accordingly. Tackling difficult areas first ensures that you have enough energy and concentration to grasp complex concepts fully.
5. Collaborate with classmates: Forming study groups with classmates can be highly beneficial as it promotes discussion, aids in clarifying doubts, and provides different perspectives on the subject matter. Explaining concepts to others also reinforces your understanding of the material.
6. Take regular breaks: Studying continuously without taking breaks can lead to burnout and reduced productivity. Divide your study sessions into manageable chunks of time, followed by short breaks to relax and recharge. Incorporate activities like stretching or going for a walk to refresh your mind.
7. Practice past exams or sample questions: Familiarize yourself with the format and style of previous exams or sample questions relevant to your subjects. This practice helps you understand the exam's structure, identify common patterns, and gain confidence in tackling similar questions during the actual test.
8. Get sufficient sleep and maintain a healthy lifestyle: Pulling all-nighters might seem tempting, but it ultimately hampers cognitive function and retention. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night to enhance memory consolidation and concentration levels. Additionally, maintaining a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and engaging in physical activity contribute to overall well-being during this stressful period.
9. Seek for help when needed: Don't hesitate to reach out to teachers, tutors, or classmates if you encounter difficulties while studying. Asking for clarification or discussing challenging concepts can provide valuable insights and help clear any confusion.
10. Stay positive and manage stress: Maintaining a positive mindset is crucial throughout finals season. Avoid negative self-talk or comparisons with others' progress – focus on your own growth instead. Take regular breaks for relaxation activities such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or pursuing hobbies that bring joy.
The path to success during finals lies in effective planning, diligent effort, and adopting healthy study habits. By following these tips and tricks, you'll be better equipped to tackle your exams confidently while minimizing stress levels along the way. Remember that preparation is key – stay focused, keep calm, and give it your best shot! Good luck!

Navigating the Uncharted Territory: My Journey with Chronic Illness and Uncertainty Shaina Tranquilino January 18, 2024 At the age of 18, my life took an unexpected turn, plunging me into a world of constant illness and uncertainty. The symptoms I endure are overwhelming - from debilitating nausea and stomach cramps to the frustrating inability to keep food down. Endless trips to the bathroom, sleepless nights plagued by insomnia, sudden hot flashes, sweating, and excruciating pain in sensitive areas have become my everyday reality. To make matters worse, my body seems to be betraying me with the absence of a menstrual cycle, persistent fatigue, weakness throughout, and inexplicable pain all over. Hair loss, mouth sores, rashes, and high blood pressure further compound my struggles. Seeking answers has been a long and arduous journey that has taken me through countless doctor's offices and hospitals. Specialists have subjected me to numerous tests - from blood work and urine samples to stool examinations, heart assessments, MRI scans, CT scans, ultrasounds, EKGs, endoscopies, colonoscopies - you name it. Yet frustratingly enough, every test comes back normal or inconclusive. It feels like an endless uphill battle where hope for a clear diagnosis seems elusive. The medical professionals suspect that I may be grappling with one or multiple autoimmune diseases or perhaps something incredibly rare. Sadly though, these conditions rarely present themselves on tests until they reach life-threatening levels – a disheartening fact that makes obtaining a definitive answer even more challenging. This uncertain future has pushed me to seize each day as if it were a precious gift because there is no telling how much longer I will be able to stand strong. In light of this unpredictability looming over my existence, I strive to serve others as best I can while I still have the strength. Every task completed becomes an accomplishment knowing that time is fleeting. Each day brings with it gratitude for being alive despite the unknown that lies ahead.
Today, I am humbly asking for your help. I am 30 years old, so it has been 12 years of dealing with this mysterious illness, and it is soon going to be 13 years for me. If you or someone you know has experienced similar symptoms, if you have any knowledge or expertise in rare diseases or autoimmune disorders, or if you simply have suggestions on where to turn next, I would be eternally grateful for your guidance. Perhaps there is a specialist, a research study, or an alternative therapy that could shed light on my situation.
I firmly believe that together we can find answers and solutions. By opening up this plea to the public, I hope to tap into the collective knowledge and compassion of our community. Your support, advice, and connections may hold the key to unravelling this medical mystery and restoring hope to my life.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story. Please feel free to reach out with any insights or recommendations you may have. Together, let us strive towards uncovering the truth and finding a path towards healing.
With deep gratitude, Shaina
Casting Spells: The Power of Words and Beliefs
Shaina Tranquilino
January 28, 2024

Words are powerful. They have the ability to shape our reality, influence our thoughts, and impact those around us. Just as ancient sorcerers used spells to manifest their desires, we too can harness the same power through the words we speak and the stories we tell. By consciously shifting our narratives from lack to abundance, victimhood to empowerment, and complaint to gratitude, we become alchemists casting beautiful spells that attract positive experiences into our lives.
1. From Lack to Abundance: The first step in casting beautiful spells is transforming our perception of scarcity into one of abundance. Instead of dwelling on what we lack, focusing on abundance opens doors for opportunities and possibilities. By affirming statements like "I always have enough," "The universe provides for me abundantly," or "Opportunities flow effortlessly towards me," we begin to reprogram our subconscious mind and invite prosperity into our lives.
2. From Victim to Empowered: Playing the role of a victim disempowers us and restricts personal growth. However, by embracing a mindset of empowerment, we tap into our inner strength and resilience. Our words hold immense power in this transformational process. Affirmations such as "I am in control of my own destiny," "I possess all the resources I need within me," or "Every challenge is an opportunity for growth" help us shift from victimhood to empowerment. As we believe these statements, they act as spells that empower us with confidence and determination.
3. From Complaint to Gratitude: Complaining breeds negativity while gratitude cultivates positivity and attracts more blessings into our lives. When we complain about circumstances or people, we unknowingly invite more reasons for dissatisfaction. By consciously practicing gratitude in both thought and speech, we transform complaints into appreciation for what is already present. Expressions like "I am grateful for every lesson life offers me," "I appreciate the love and support I receive daily," or "Thank you for this beautiful day filled with endless possibilities" become spells that manifest joy, contentment, and abundance.
4. Casting Beautiful Spells: Once we have shifted our own stories from lack to abundance, victimhood to empowerment, and complaint to gratitude, we can then extend these beautiful spells to others. Our words carry energy and intention that can influence those around us. By consciously speaking positively about others, acknowledging their strengths, and encouraging their growth, we cast spells of inspiration and upliftment. The ripple effect of these beautiful spells can create a harmonious environment where everyone thrives.
The power of words cannot be underestimated; they possess the ability to shape our reality and attract more of what we believe. By shifting our personal narratives from lack to abundance, victimhood to empowerment, and complaint to gratitude, we cast beautiful spells that transform our lives for the better. As we speak positively about ourselves and others, our words become catalysts for change, empowering not only ourselves but also those who come into contact with them. Let us remember the incredible power within our voices and use it wisely as we embark on a journey of intentional living through casting beautiful spells.
Making a Difference: Supporting Gaza's Children through PCRF Shaina Tranquilino January 27, 2024

As the calendar flips to a new year, many of us find ourselves reflecting on the past and setting resolutions for the future. In this spirit of giving back, one of my New Year's resolutions for 2024 is to donate to twelve different organizations throughout the year, each dedicated to helping those in need. For January, I have chosen to contribute to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) - specifically their Urgent Relief and Recovery program, which aims to provide essential aid and support to Gaza's children.
Understanding the Crisis: The situation in Gaza has been dire for years due to political conflicts and economic instability. However, it is often the children who suffer most from these circumstances. They endure trauma, limited access to healthcare and education, malnutrition, and lack of opportunities necessary for a bright future. This ongoing crisis necessitates immediate assistance for these vulnerable young lives.
Why Choose PCRF? When researching various organizations focused on aiding children in Palestine, I discovered that PCRF consistently receives high praise for its effective initiatives and commitment to making a difference. Their focus on providing medical care, psychological support, educational resources, and humanitarian aid aligns perfectly with my desire to help improve the lives of Gaza's children.
Urgent Relief and Recovery Program: One particular campaign that caught my attention within PCRF is their Urgent Relief and Recovery initiative. This program recognizes the pressing needs faced by Gaza's children daily – needs that require immediate attention. Through this program, PCRF provides emergency medical aid, supports hospitals with life-saving equipment and medications, offers mental health counselling services, facilitates post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment sessions, and supplies food packages for families facing severe poverty, among other urgent relief measures.
Making an Impact: By donating to PCRF's Urgent Relief and Recovery program this month, we can make a tangible impact on the lives of Gaza's children. Our contributions will go directly towards providing essential medical care, psychological support, and vital resources to those who need them most.
Encouraging Others: In our pursuit to make a difference, it is crucial to encourage others to join us in supporting this cause. By sharing our experiences and spreading awareness about organizations like PCRF, we can inspire more individuals to contribute towards creating positive change for Gaza's children. Together, we have the power to amplify our impact and bring hope to those who are suffering.
As I embark on my journey of donating to twelve different organizations throughout the year, I am thrilled that January brings an opportunity to support Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) and their Urgent Relief and Recovery program. By contributing to this noble cause, I hope to play a small part in improving the lives of Gaza's children who desperately need our help. Let us remember that no act of kindness is too small when it comes from a place of compassion and empathy. Join me in making a difference today!
Teachers on Strike in Saskatchewan: Advocating for Quality Education
Shaina Tranquilino
January 21, 2024

Teachers play a vital role in shaping the future of our society, nurturing young minds, and imparting knowledge. However, when educational systems fail to meet their needs and demands, teachers are left with no choice but to take a stand. Recently, educators across Saskatchewan have decided to go on strike, aiming to improve the quality of education for both students and teachers alike. In this blog post, we will delve into the reasons behind this strike and how it may impact education in Saskatchewan.
1. The Struggle for Fair Compensation: One of the primary concerns that led teachers in Saskatchewan to take this decisive step is fair compensation. Over the years, educators have witnessed stagnant wages and inadequate funding from the government, resulting in salary discrepancies and financial difficulties. This situation has not only demoralized teachers but also hindered attracting new talent into the profession.
2. Class Size and Support Staff Ratios: Another significant issue faced by teachers is large class sizes and understaffed schools. With limited resources and increasing student enrollment, educators find it challenging to provide individual attention and support to each student. Adequate staff ratios are crucial for creating an optimal learning environment where students' needs can be effectively met.
3. Insufficient Resources: The lack of necessary teaching materials, textbooks, technology tools, and other essential resources significantly impacts both teaching quality and student performance. Teachers recognize that without proper resources at their disposal, it becomes increasingly difficult to deliver engaging lessons or cater to diverse learning styles adequately.
4. Increased Workload: Teaching goes beyond classroom hours; it involves lesson planning, grading assignments, attending professional development sessions, parent-teacher meetings—the list goes on. The mounting workload often leaves teachers overwhelmed and compromises their ability to provide personalized instruction or engage in self-improvement initiatives.
Implications of the Teacher Strike:
While teacher strikes inevitably disrupt regular school routines, they also serve as a powerful means of drawing attention to critical issues and fostering discussion about necessary improvements. By standing up for their rights and advocating for quality education, teachers hope to create long-term benefits that go beyond their own immediate concerns.
1. Government Response: The strike has forced the government to address these pressing issues and engage in negotiations with the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation (STF). The outcome of these discussions will determine whether teachers' demands are met or if further action needs to be taken.
2. Student Impact: Undoubtedly, students are at the heart of this struggle. While strikes may disrupt academic schedules temporarily, it is essential to remember that teachers are fighting for better educational opportunities for their students. A fair resolution would ultimately benefit both educators and learners alike.
3. Public Awareness: Teacher strikes generate public awareness regarding the challenges faced by educators on a daily basis. This increased understanding can lead to greater support from parents, communities, and policymakers who recognize the crucial role teachers play in society.
Teachers in Saskatchewan have embarked on a strike to highlight persistent issues within the education system, including fair compensation, class sizes, resource shortages, and excessive workloads. By taking this stand, they demand an equitable environment where quality education can flourish. As we navigate through this period of disruption, it is crucial for all stakeholders involved to prioritize meaningful dialogue and find solutions that pave the way for a brighter future for both teachers and students in Saskatchewan.
How I Crushed $20,000 in Student Loans and Achieved Debt-Free Bliss!
Shaina Tranquilino
January 31, 2024

Student loans have become a harsh reality for millions of graduates worldwide. The burden of debt can be overwhelming, hindering our financial freedom and future aspirations. However, with determination, discipline, and these practical tips that helped me pay off my $20,000 student loan debt, you too can find your path to becoming debt-free.
1. Create a Solid Repayment Plan: The first step towards paying off any debt is to create a well-structured repayment plan. Start by evaluating your overall financial situation and set realistic goals for yourself. Determine how much you can afford to put towards loan payments each month without sacrificing essentials or other necessary expenses. Having a clear roadmap will help keep you focused and motivated throughout the journey.
2. Prioritize Your Payments: While it's essential to make minimum monthly payments on all outstanding debts, prioritizing higher-interest loans can save you significant money in the long run. By directing additional funds towards loans with high-interest rates, you'll reduce the overall interest accrued and expedite your debt payoff process.
3. Cut Back on Non-Essential Expenses: Consider adopting a frugal lifestyle while paying off your student loans. Identify areas where you can cut back on non-essential spending to free up more money for loan repayments. Assess your monthly budget meticulously; small sacrifices like reducing dining out frequency or cancelling unnecessary subscriptions can go a long way in accelerating your debt repayment journey.
4. Generate Additional Income Streams: Increasing your income is an effective strategy to speed up loan repayment. Explore opportunities to generate extra cash through side hustles or part-time jobs aligned with your skills or hobbies. Consider freelancing, tutoring, or monetizing specific talents online – every additional cent earned helps chip away at your student loan balance faster.
5. Utilize Windfalls Wisely: If fortune smiles upon you with unexpected cash inflows, like tax refunds or bonuses, refrain from splurging on luxuries. Instead, allocate these windfalls towards paying off your student loans. While it may not be as thrilling as a spontaneous shopping spree, the satisfaction of reducing your debt burden will far outweigh any temporary materialistic indulgence.
6. Seek Loan Forgiveness or Repayment Assistance Programs: Investigate loan forgiveness and repayment assistance programs available for specific professions or industries. Depending on your field of work, you might qualify for programs that forgive a portion of your loans after a certain number of years of service or offer repayment assistance in exchange for working in underserved areas.
7. Refinance Your Loans: Consider refinancing your student loans to secure lower interest rates and flexible repayment terms. Research different lenders' offerings and compare their interest rates, fees, and borrower benefits before making a decision. However, carefully assess whether refinancing is the right choice for you based on your financial goals and circumstances.
8. Stay Positive & Celebrate Milestones: Paying off significant amounts of debt can feel like an arduous journey at times. It's crucial to stay positive throughout the process by celebrating milestones along the way – no matter how small they may seem! Recognize each accomplishment and reward yourself modestly to maintain motivation and keep pushing forward.
Becoming debt-free is an empowering achievement that opens doors to financial freedom and peace of mind. Remember that everyone's journey is unique, so don't compare yourself to others; focus on what works best for you. By creating a solid plan, practicing frugality, increasing income streams, exploring loan forgiveness options, refinancing when beneficial, staying positive through challenges, and celebrating milestones – you'll pave your own path to debt freedom just as I did with my $20,000 student loan payoff.
Stay determined, disciplined, and committed - soon enough, you'll find yourself basking in the joy of being debt-free. Your future self will thank you!
