Thought I’d try my hand at writing my own English lyrics to one of my favorite Kamen Rider openings. Let me know what you think.

Deltarune x Persona

While watching a playthrough of Deltarune, I noticed a few things about the Dark World. The concept of another world, the Fountains of Darkness, and the idea that all the items, equipment, and characters you encounter are just regular objects transformed by the chaos and imagination of a possible mental world immeadiately brought Persona to mind.

What’s more, Lancer and the Spade King have some elements in common with Shadows:

Susie’s comment of “jail is for dads now” when the King is defeated. Lancer has been trying to earn his abusive father’s, the Spades King’s, love and respect.

Susie stops herself from tearing off Kris’ face because they have a “loving mom”. This suggests that Susie’s mother isn’t present in her life.

Susie shows a happier, fun-loving side when she’s around Lancer, and this allows her to connect with him and help bring down the Spades King.

Susie and Spades are violent, ill-tempered bullies who brutalize and threaten anyone who gets in their way, though Susie has redeeming qualities and becomes a better person through interracting with Lancer, Kris, and Ralsei.

My theory is each Chapter will be centered around a different one of Kris’ classmates. One of them will end up falling into the Dark World, forcing the Fun Gang to save them.

Each Dark World will be ruled by a King (or Queen) who embodies their worst qualities and how they perceive the world (Spades believes that Might Makes Right and is a bloodthirsty tyrant, while Susie is the school bully with a history of violence), or maybe someone they resent (it’s implied that Spades King may be a representation of Susie’s dad).

Each World has a “Lancer” that represents their inner self, usually a side of themselves they don’t want others to see or refuse acknowledge (”Spade” Lancer is happy-go-lucky and friendly, traits Susie shows signs of after she warms up to the others), and the only way to defeat the King, stop the Fountain, and return to the Light World is to acknowledge and accept their Lancer.

Based on this, we’re likely to see Kings and Lancers themed after Hearts, Diamonds, and Clubs in the future. But what do you all think?
