and yes, xiao is higher up but I just decided to get scara because it seemed like there were barely any figures of him left so-

ADEPTUS XIAO!

xiao held you close as your anxiety subsided.

the two of you were having tea with zhongli at third-round knockout. however, the storyteller’s voice was forgotten when you abandoned zhongli’s table to go inside the tavern.

there, you hid at a secluded table, in an area where customers hardly went, and silently hoped the panic would go away on its own.

it didn’t.

apparently you were gone for a long while, because xiao had come looking for you. he doesn’t always know what to do, but whenever he comforts you- it always works.

after some time spent in comfortable silence, xiao spoke up.

“why didn’t you call my name? i could’ve helped you calm down much sooner.” he said, leaning close to your ear so you could hear him well.

you shook your head, “i thought that i could deal with it on my own.”

xiao scoffed, “liar.”

you bit your lip, blinking away the tears that tried to form in your eyes again. “i just… feel bad.”

xiao looked down at you in confusion.

“you know, for having to do this for me. people stare. i know that i’m embarrassing you. i’m sorry.” you said, leaning against his shoulder.

“you think you’re embarrassing me?” xiao huffed. “you mortals are so…. so confusing.”

“i’m sorry.”

“don’t apologize. you do not embarrass me. i am an adeptus- the only mortal’s opinion that i care about is yours. it doesn’t matter whether we’re in public or in private- i will always help you.”

diluc led you to the second floor of the tavern.

he rubbed your hands, holding you close to his chest and whispering gentle words in your ear. this always calmed you, but you couldn’t help but feel slightly uncomfortable thinking of what the others who he sent away could be thinking.

“thank you, love, but i’m alright now. you can go back downstairs.” you said, pulling away from diluc’s grasp.

his brows furrowed, “i don’t have to go back for a while. are you sure you don’t want me to stay?”

“i’m sure.” you smiled to him weakly.

“is everything alright, darling?” diluc said, holding your hand again.

you coughed uncomfortably, “well- i know that i’m embarrassing to deal with. and, well, your reputation-“

diluc shook his head.

“no, you’re not embarrassing. what made you think that?”

diluc tilted your head up with his finger, holding eye contact with you.

“did someone make you think that you are?” he said.

“no… well-“ you sighed, “no. i don’t want to embarrass you.”

diluc smiled slightly, holding your chin with one hand and rubbing your arm soothingly with the other.

“you are not embarrassing- i would never be embarrassed by something that you cannot control.

it doesn’t matter if it’s just the two of us, or if we’re surrounded by everyone in mondstadt,” he kisses your nose softly, “i will always be here for you.”
