so your last comic made me really think....have the egg-eaters ever gotten an egg that maybe was a little too incubated? Like, what's the rate of growth in those things? Do they eat them while they are still new? Does Matthias have a system to ensure they DON'T become incubated? Has a half-formed hatchling ever popped out after the first bite? Would they even care? (looking at Rannoch...)

To answer your question: It happens VERY, VERY, rarely. For example, the incident with Via.

Y'know, I've always imagined the eggs being mostly goop until the last few hours of formation. On one hand, having a full incubation cycle where the hatchling grows steadily is more, uh..."scientifically faithful" to how eggs work.

On the other hand, goop magically evolving into a dragon within the egg shell at the last second sounds like a cool process. It could be observed as a little flash of light from within the shell a few days before hatching. I'd say, 90% of the time the insides are magic goop, and the last 10% is the flesh and blood stage.

So Your Last Comic Made Me Really Think....have The Egg-eaters Ever Gotten An Egg That Maybe Was A Little

The Gang keep their eggs fresh by simply 'not incubating' them, and it hasn't been a problem yet.

What does the rest of the egg eaters (besides Matthias) thinks of the taste of eggs?

Via:

"Plague, Water, or Shadow eggs aren't my favorite. They're too slimy, even after you cook them... But I love Nature eggs! Mom used to grow these pretty flowers in our home garden. If you cook a Nature Egg just right, it tastes just like them! Also, a little secret... you can make the YUMMIEST smelling incense out of the husks. That's why I smell like Vanilla and Rum all the time, but don't tell the others >.< "

image

Rannoch: " What did you just ask me? I don't care what they taste like, as long as I get to rip off some heads when we harvest them! You won't leave until I answer? What if I rip YOUR head off instead... Huh, so you still won't leave without an answer...your bravery in front of a clearly superior fighter is admirable... FINE. Fire Eggs. They taste like the food of Warriors: BONES, BLOOD, AND MEAT."

image

Okira: " I...I feel bad answering this. Is it really ok? What? I should be more honest with my feelings? Well, when you put it like that... Okay, here goes nothing... I like how airy and fruity Light and Wind Eggs can be. Khoga's even found a way to age them into a drink so I have a backup supply in case we can't find any eggs. If I don't think about it, I can imagine I'm drinking a fizzy fruit juice instead of...y'know..."

image

Khoga: " You want to know our favorites? Why haven't I thought of that? It needs to be implemented into my studies immediately! Each subject's distinct flavor preference could possibly be indicators of their internal m- Oh- Oh, your answer? I don't have a favorite when it comes to raw materials, but here's something I adore...

BEHOLD! Sour candy drops, infused with the ground shell and fluid of Shadow eggs! These babies keep me focused when I feel suffocated under the pressure of my work. What? I'm a dragon not a machine, even I need a pick-me-up from time to time!"

Hey there! Just curious question, can dragons well... Eat too many eggs and end up fatally sick? I don't know if this has been asked yet, but I wonder.

Hello again^^ Ah, this is a fantastic question!

(Please note that the following is purely Egg Eater Fanon)

Technically, what you've described is possible! But there are many variables to consider. Egg Eating deals heavily with how Raw Elemental Magic within the egg reacts with the Unique Elemental Magics within a dragon.

REM and UEM

UEM- The personality and character of a dragon, their soul if you will, becomes intertwined with their Flight's Element as they grow. Their fears, desires, dreams, hopes, and wishes, and their little personality quirks that make them unique individuals, all merge with this energy to create a sort of unique magical signature.

REM- This is one of the Rawest forms of Elemental Magic, found in few places aside from dragon's eggs. Like the deities they originate from, this magic is intensely powerful, unstable, and chaotic.

CONSUMPTION

Consuming an egg produces all sorts of effects based off of the qualities of the consumer's own UEM. For example, Okira's powers and symptoms are based purely off of fear, guilt and shame. It also has elements of the arcane, as that was the type of egg he had first eaten.

That being said, some effects don't manifest as powers, but are purely physical changes, others are psychological, and sometimes there are no powers to be seen even when eggs are eaten regularly.

It all depends on the type of dragon doing the eating,( and in some cases, a tiny bit on what kind of Element they're consuming)

ANSWER:

So, yes. A dragon could eat too many eggs and end up fatally sick. It would just be uniquely their problem.

Thank you for the lovely ask!
