obi wan and anakin were brothers and besties and father & son and many more things. it entirely depends on your interpretation of their dynamic and the situation. nevertheless, i cant understand why some people dismiss obi wans parental role completely. anakin himself calls obi wan his father right in aotc multiple times.

father, brother and son are all abstract, vague terms for obi wan. he has never experienced them (not in the nuclear family sense we and anakin are looking at it). it ultimately doesnt matter whether obi wan saw anakin as his brother or pet goat. anakin, who matters in the question, did see obi wan as a father. anakin, who had a functional parent, regarded whatever crack obi wan was on as similar enough to his mother.

star wars meta i disagree with parts of this - I think that their relationship was definitely more fraternal than father-son by RotS but in the pre-aotc era obi-wan as a father figure is a deeply important aspect of anakin’s character like op said anakin’s ONLY point of reference for a familial relationship is a parental relationship so I think that what i out-of-universe view as obi-wan being a ‘older brother caretaker’ figure in the early days rather than a father anakin would have definitely seen as a father but i do think their relationship shifted to be on more equal footing - more brotherly - during the clone wars and it would have been quite hard for either obi-wan or anakin to define that shift in-universe unless forced to by tragedy because neither of them have a point of reference for a sibling relationship - ‘brother’ is just the word that feels right anyway I could write a whole essay on this and probably will at some point but I don’t have the time now lol Great post Op anakin skywalker obi wan kenobi obi wan and anakin

as someone with multiple degrees in physics, history, and literature currently pursuing a PhD in science and technology studies,

that all of the "STEM vs. humanities" discourse on this website is fucking Terrible and you should be embarrassed of yourselves.
