Jedi June 2022

Jedi June 2022

A creative fandom event dedicated to appreciating the Jedi, taking place during the weekends of June! Each day of the weekends will feature a prompt, around which people can create fanwork (of any kind – fic, art, cosplay, edits, anything you can think of) or meta focusing on the Jedi and the Jedi Order. All eras and continuities are welcome; OCs, established characters, doesn’t matter – it just needs to be about appreciating the Jedi!

Rules:

If you are participating, please tag your work/meta with #jedi june and/or @ this blog so that I will see it and reblog it here. All work must be your own. Feel free to crosspost it off-site.

This is an appreciation event, focusing on what we love and enjoy about the Jedi – not what we don’t. This is not the place to air your grievances with the Code, take potshots at the Council, prop certain Jedi/certain eras of Jedi up at the expense of others, or disparage the Jedi Order or their philosophy and way of life in any way (including the concept of non-attachment). You are free to do that on your own time if that’s your thing, but it has no place within this event.

AUs and crossovers are allowed, with caveats: again, the purpose of this event is to appreciate the Jedi as Jedi, so sticking your favorite Jedi characters in something like a modern AU or making them all Sith or Mandalorian is not really within the spirit of this event. However, AUs such as making a non-Jedi character a Jedi, having a character survive their canon death, giving a character a different teacher or padawan, or killing Palpatine off-screen in an unspecified yet embarrassing and painful manner, would all be perfectly fine. Use your best judgement to determine whether an AU fits the spirit of the event or not.

Ships are allowed as long as they’re not between a child and adult, and following the above rules.

Following the weekend prompts is encouraged, but not required. Any sort of pro-Jedi content is encouraged all year month long, and if tagged (and following the rules), will be reblogged. It also does not have to be uploaded on the exact day - if it’s more convenient for you to post (for example) Monday and Friday of these weeks instead of Saturday and Sunday, your posts will still be reblogged here, although it may take until the weekend to get to them.

Prompts:

Saturday, June 4th: Commitment/Service

Sunday, June 5th: Non-attachment/Compassion

Saturday, June 11th: Mischief/Humor

Sunday, June 12th: Knowledge/Defense

Saturday, June 18th: Training/Tested

Sunday, June 19th: Community/Jedi Temple

Saturday, June 25th: Symbols/Faith

Sunday, June 26th: May the Force be with You

Jedi June 2022

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! I hope you will have fun participating!

For the love of _______ please, PLEASE don’t post that someone, especially a family/friend has passed on social *cough* Facebook *cough* unless you know for a stone cold fact that family and immediate friends have been informed!

It’s a horrific way to find out that a loved one is dead; regardless of knowing that it was coming.

Another thing to consider is the shape of the hands of various aliens and the number of fingers on said hands.

All Sign Language that is used on Earth is based on the fact that we have five fingers and might not work for aliens that either don’t have the same number of fingers or even the same dexterity/joints as humans.

The children’s show Bluey recently introduced a deaf character and the animators had to adjust the AusLan (Australian Sign Language) because the characters only have four fingers.

I don’t know about other countries Sign Languages but I know with at least Exact English Sign Language one Sign can have different meanings depending on how you move your hand.

An example would be folding down all your fingers except for the thumb and pinky and hold your hand up makes the letter ‘Y’ (this is the same in American Sign), if you hold it close to your body and twist your wrist back and forth it’s the color ‘yellow’, holding your hand near your face and twisting your hand can mean ‘silly’ with the correct facial expression and two ‘Y’s by your shoulders and twisting your wrists means ‘play’.

And if you get a Sign wrong you could be asking for something completely different than what you think you’re asking.

I heard a rather mortifying story where a cop, fresh out of his Sign Language class, top of the class, pulled over a hard of hearing/deaf lady and unknowingly missigned driver’s license to her and got confused when she became uncomfortable and distressed when he kept insisting to see it.

He discovered that he wasn’t Signing driver’s license but something else when it occurred to him that he might be Signing driver’s license wrong and asked.

Won’t say exactly what he was unintentionally asking to see as it will get me into trouble here; @slecnaztemnot can probably guess what it was though.

And slecnaztemnot please correct me if I’ve made any errors as I’m not fluent in Sign and am still learning to help my son, he has a severe speech delay, communicate with me and others as he learns to communicate with the world.

Sign Language in the GFFA

This is a set of headcanons I developed for Speechless about how sign works in Star Wars. I do not know any sign languages myself, but that’s because I’ve found I have difficulty picking up new languages in general. I read up on a lot of theory and ran this past a few people who have more experience in real world sign language than I do, so I think it mostly checks out.

That said, if a disabled person (specifically deaf or with a speech disability) has some ideas on how to refine this to be more realistic, or would like to point out something that’s offensive, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Heard Some Important Information On Twitter Today, And Thought Id Post It Here For Anyone Who May Not

Heard some important information on Twitter today, and thought I’d post it here for anyone who may not have heard it. This is actually a thing, devised by human rights organisation called Karma Nirvana.
