Hello! I Hope It's Okay If I Ask You Some Questions About Slavic Deities, Since You're One Of The Few

Hello! I hope it's okay if I ask you some questions about Slavic deities, since you're one of the few sources I've found on the topic.

My family is Polish and Czech so I've been looking into Slavic folk customs and deities as a form of ancestral worship, and I've recently been called to work with Mokosh. Unfortunately she seems to be a very hard deity to do much in-depth research on, so I was wondering if you have any resources for learning more about her. I'm also going to try out Slavic weaving and embroidery in her honor, and I'm curious what other offerings or altar decorations she might like.

Thanks so much, I hope you're doing well.

HI! THANK YOU FOR ASKING! I LOVE TALKING ABOUT THIS TOPIC @tolkien-fantasy

So, first things first. Let's break down who Mokosh is, what you can work with her on, what you can offer her, and her associations, and my UPG. Then i will try to give you some resources in English, as I don't speak czech or polish..

Mokosh is the slavic pagan goddess predominantly worshipped in ancient East Slavic countries / regions. Her domains are: weaving, sewing, embroidery, fertility, the Earth, motherhood, women, women's destinies and fates. She is the patron of women and traditionally female jobs. She is often seen as Mother Nature/Earth herself, and sometimes as her companion. She is often seen as the consort of Perun, god of thunder.

As a fertility and earth goddess, you can offer her grains, milk, fresh homemade bread and baked goods, and water. While you can also offer her your embroidery and sewing creations, and weave in her honor, you can also put earth themed things on her altar. Perhaps a flower pot? Herbs? And a green, brown, or red candle? As red is her common association amongst her followers and slavic pagans in general. You can spend time in nature in her honor. And you can read and educate yourself about women's history in her honor. But those are just some ideas!!!

In my UPG, Mokosh loooves makeup and skincare as a devotional act. She prefers to talk thru prayers, and doesn't really fancy me talking to her with divination. I like to offer her flowers from my garden from time to time. And devotional jewelry.

By undiscovered, i mean deities and pantheons that were either lost, undocumented by any culture, or just an undocumented deity from an existing pantheon such as greek or norse!

Some people talk to these deities and document them, forming what is known as a conpantheon.

Meaning constructed pantheon.

Do you believe in this phenomenon?

My hot takes:

1. I never heard a good, valid, non misogynistic reason why menstruation is "spiritually impure". And why women shouldn't pray, or do rituals when menstruating.

2. I hate hate hate it when people are always like "erm friendly reminder that you don't have to do this" "just a disclaimer this and that" "quick heads up this isn't that"...

3. Love magick shouldn't be that taboo of a topic... Same with baneful magick

What is your witchy hot take?

Rules for this post:

Give the benefit of the doubt. If it seems like a blanket statement, it probably isn't, it's probably just based on that person's experience or belief system. Also don't turn it into some weird bigoted stuff or you get blocked.

MY witchy hot take is that I think tarot decks you choose personally match your energy better than those gifted to you.

How are you gunna know if you vibe with it if you've never messed with it before? I vibe with the one's I've been gifted, of course, but not as much as those that I choose myself.

Talking with my fella @tengritexas about love magic and suddenly wanting to call out:"people who blindly follow witchtok gooners and don't want to form their own opinions on witchcraft and magic".

All while sipping ice coffee with 99% milk

Quite an aesthetic 😂

(hope you don't mind that i mentioned you @tengritexas 😂😹 i just found our convo funny)

Thanks for the tag!

Who, if anyone, was the first deity(s) you worked with?

About 5 years ago, it was Mokosh, the slavic goddess of weaving, sewing, fertility, women and women's destinies.

Who, if anyone, is the deity(s) you’re working with now?

Mokosh, again, and also: Perun and Dajbog. I also pray to Vesna and Morana, and occasionally Stribog.

What’s your favorite aspect of your practice? (Ex: doing tarot, celebrating holidays, casting spells, etc)

Probably prayer and communicating with the gods!

What’s something you want to get better at?

Understanding the gods and how my relationship with them can be!

(sorry if you don't wanna be tagged 👉👈🥲))

I’m starting a tag game!

People are always saying they need more witchy/pagan mutuals so I thought this would be a fun way to find them while getting to talk about your practice!

Who, if anyone, was the first deity(s) you worked with?

Hermes was the first deity that I made the conscious decision to worship though I had always been drawn to paganism. I made a tiny altar, devotional drawings, playlists, and a journal to him. I quickly added Athena and Apollo after that, but it became too overwhelming, and I got burnt out. I stopped practicing for about four years until I started again this year.

Who, if anyone, is the deity(s) you’re working with now?

Artemis was the one who reached out to me this time. She had been sending me a bunch of incredibly obvious signs that took me abt six months to finally notice (my bad lol) but I'm very happy with her now. Athena has also been more present, whereas she was more in the background the first time I tried Hellenism, and now she sits with me at work. Hermes dips in and out and Apollo's the one who's been more in the background. I would like to strengthen my relationship with them because I miss them.

What’s your favorite aspect of your practice? (Ex: doing tarot, celebrating holidays, casting spells, etc)

I like getting things for my altar. It makes me so happy knowing that my gods will like whatever I'm getting; I love getting presents for ppl I care abt. I haven't collected everything into one central altar yet but I'm very excited for when I do.

What’s something you want to get better at?

I want to get better at tarot. I've been doing it for a few years now but I'm still 100% reliant on the guidebook the cards came with and am not very good at making my own interpretations. I'm hoping I'll get better at it with time but it has been quite a while...
