I shouldn't be on my phone right now but I need to scream this into the void:
I know we'd have to change several things to make that work but: AU where it's not Finwe but Celebrimbor who is killed at Formenos. For handwavy reasons, everybody still rebels, but 1) Finwe is now an active player, which completely changes the power dynamics of the First Age, and 2) when they get to Beleriand, it's Curufin who is fey and immediately gets himself killed, which makes Feanor also an active player in the First Age
Note I said AU, not fix-it. I highly doubt things would go any better than they do in canon
