Writing A GO One-shot And I Just Had The Realization.
Writing a GO one-shot and I just had the realization.
I don't think Crowley tempts as a demon. I don't think he has a temptatious bone in his human-but-snake-like body. As much as he wants to believe it, I don't think he can tempt at all. I can't think of a single moment he actually does tempt someone, honestly.
I think Crowley merely suggests. He just brings up the idea that theres another option. Think about it:
"Dont want wine? Okay. Try an ox rib. You might like it."
"Don't agree with head office's rules? Okay. How about an arrangement then? Two birds, one stone."
"Don't want Armageddon to happen? Okay. Me neither. We can try to raise him on a neutral upbringing, kill him, or run away together. Which is best?"
He is not a demon. Demons tempt. And what he does? Not even remarkably close.
What he is, is a walking, talking suggestion box. And I'm so here for it.

I yearn and I will continue yearning. Through space and time, I want to experience a love so pure, so passionate, so full.
Is it so much to ask for an eternal yearning? Is it anything to crave a love only found in the silent longing gaze of two beings who can't quite explain the electricity and tension and upbeat fear because it's always been that way? Is it too difficult to find something so profoundly verbose and yet devastatingly compact, addictive and near repulsive, continually freeing but somehow an everlasting entrapment, at the same time? God, it's me. Are you listening?
DO NOT DO THIS!!!
If a website has a paywall, like New York Times, DO NOT use the ctrl+A shortcut then the ctrl+c shortcut as fast as you can because then you may accidentally copy the entire article before the paywall comes up. And definitely don't do ctrl+v into the next google doc or whatever you open because then you will accidentally paste the entire article into a google doc or something!!!! I repeat DO NOT do this because it is piracy which is absolutely totally wrong!!!
Ok, be honest, what do you mean no one else has posit this?
Literally what was worrying him and why he didn't want to wait inside.
Also, he started actually being nice to Jim as soon as he confirmed that it was, indeed, real amnesia (and thus, his intention wasn't to cause Crowley or Aziraphale any real grief).
I've seen two takes on Crowley telling Gabriel to jump out the window and they go like this:
1. Haha Crowley dislikes Gabriel so much, but then decided at the last second not to let him kill himself because Aziraphale/guilt/whatever
2. Crowley was su*cide baiting him out of spite/vengefulness and hate and that's a big bad character flaw
But I haven't seen this take, which is my Hot Take, which is:
Crowley was testing his theory that Gabriel was faking his amnesia. Crowley just got done telling Aziraphale that he's worried about this, "what if he's faking it?" We're all distracted by the following lines about being smitten, but Crowley is actually trying to express his fear and anxiety to Aziraphale that Gabriel could either spontaneously regain his memory, or that he never lost them to begin with and is just pretending.
I think Crowley reasons that the "real Gabriel" (fully cognizant archangel fucking Gabriel without soap opera amnesia) would definitely not discorporate himself, not even for a bit. Crowley doesn't expect him to jump out the window.
So Crowley tests him (not to destruction!) and when he realizes that Gabriel is truly about to jump, he stops the test. He even says "if you're not him, then what are you?" right after this, implying that "Jim's" willingness to harm himself proved to Crowley that he isn't "really" Gabriel. After this, Crowley moves on with his memory interrogation, trying to help "Jim" locate Gabriel's memories.
It certainly was not a nice thing to do, but it was pretty smart, and ultimately harmless.

"The Writers Guild has reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to end its strike after nearly five months. The parties finalized the framework of the deal Sunday when they were able to untangle their stalemate over AI and writing room staffing levels.
“We have reached a tentative agreement on a new 2023 MBA, which is to say an agreement in principle on all deal points, subject to drafting final contract language,” the guild told members this evening in a release, which came just after sunset and the start of the Yom Kippur holiday that many had seen deadline to wrap up deal after five days of long negotiations...
Despite today’s welcome news, it still will take a few days for the strike to be officially over as the WGA West and WGA East proceed with their ratification process. During the WGA’s last strike in 2007-08, a tentative agreement was reached on the 96th day and it wasn’t over until the 100th...
All attention will now turn to ratifying the WGA deal and getting SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP back to the bargaining table to work out a deal to end the actors’ strike, which has now been going on for 70 days.
Details of the WGA’s tentative agreement haven’t been released yet but will be revealed by the guild in advance of the membership ratification votes. Pay raises and streaming residuals have been key issues for the guild, along with AI and writers room staffing levels."
