Max watched him die and went nearly insane with pain and anger and ended up taking out the other 4 tributes on her own, with Lucas trying to keep her from falling apart.

Obviously, lumax happens throughout their time in the arena. When he joined the alience, he admitted to following the siblings trying to find a way to ally with them, Max starts to call him stalker after that. Later, Max ended up taking out a tribute from District 5 as they tried to steal from them, which is when Lucas started calling her madmax.
