Idk if your still doing this but 💚This is probably a bit odd but what if Kate was deafness of hoh(hard of hearing ) which would make sense why chess was gonna skype rather then call cause deaf folks usually use visual communication if they aren’t with a person irl ? This was a lot longer then I expected :)

OMG this is such a cool idea!! Some HoH!Kate headcanons? Don’t mind if I do ;)

Kate developed Otosclerosis at the age of 7 and it renders her partially deaf in both ears, only able to hear louder noises.

She gets hearing aids which make things easier, but they don’t fix it entirely.

Chess learns ASL with Kate and they like to use it to their advantage and have secret conversations, since barely anyone else they know knows how to sign, with the exception of Kate’s family.

She doesn’t tell anyone on the team about it at first, and it doesn’t seem like an issue until Kate nearly drops a girl because she didn’t hear the right formation.

Kate uses her hearing as an excuse to ignore Cairo and Farrah, it annoys the shit out of them

Kate chooses to not wear her aids to the sleepover, simply because she doesn’t want to deal with the team’s bullshit for an extended period of time and it’s easier to ignore them when she can’t hear them.

(This also means Kate doesn’t hear any of the screaming later on-)

She doesn’t make the same mistake with the second sleepover, and when she meets Eva, suddenly Kate doesn’t mind listening to Cairo’s bitching.

Eva learns ASL on her own time (she’s trying to be a good friend, totally not for a gay reason) when she finds out through Reese that Kate’s HoH, and she makes a point to start a conversation with her by signing after she’s confident enough to form sentences

Kate was reminded of Chess by it and broke down crying, nobody else on the team ever bothered to learn sign for her, but Eva put in the extra effort to make her more comfortable
