Something I always wondered about is why the localizers chose to give The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks that name. I mean, if you played the english version you´re rprobably about to say “Well the spirit tracks are pretty important in the game, since the power that holds Malaldus imprisoned flows though them and all”

But here´s the thing, while that is true, in-game the general public actually doesn´t know that that power flows through them, in fact, Zelda herself doesn´t know it until she meets Anjean!

Anjean: “It’s not chains or bars that keep him imprisoned, but an energy that flows between the tower and the four temples thatsurround it.”

Zelda: “Oh, of course! Anjean, then the Spirit Tracks—”

Ajean: “Correct, my dear. The Spirit Tracks carry that energy.”

It´s even more clear in teh japanese version that Zelda is just figuring it out at that point where something a long the lines of this is said:

Zelda: “Power is sent from the Tower to the Four Temples…That is what strengths the seal of the Tower of teh Gods that is holding the Demon King…Ah- Could it be that it is the tracks that are connecting the tower and the temples?”

But, even with that in mind, the Spirit Tracks are still very important, right?

Yeah sure but…here´s the thing, the term “Spirit Tracks” is pretty much invented by the english localization. In the japanese version, and the german version that I played, the tracks are always just called, well, tracks. They don´t have any special names, they´re just “tracks”. Which confused me when I first played Spirit Tracks, because the term “Spirit Tracks” is never once uttered in the german version, makign me wonder what was up with that weird title.

It would have made more sense if the german version had the same name as the japanese version. In japanese, The Legend of Zelda:Spirit Tracks is called “Zeruda no Densetsu:Daichi no Kiteki” which means “The Legend of Zelda:Whistle of the Earth/Land”, which is a pun of sorts. In the title its “whistle” as in “train whistle”, while in-game what is called “Spirit Flute” in english, is actually called “Flute of the Earth/Land”.

So, in japanese, the game is, as is common in Zelda, named after the “important main object” you obtain during the game. Which I personally like a lot more, to be honest.

Adding to this, I don´t like how in the english version so much is named “Spirit something”. I mean, in japanese there was a lot of things named “something of The Gods”, but it wasn´t as often, and it sounds a bit more magnificent to me, anyways.

Yeah um, not sure where exactly I´m going with all of this, just some brain dumping, I suppose.

More gifs of this huffin’ (and puffin’) fella!🎺

Big Bad Wolf Daddy, an anthropomorphic wolf in a yellow zoot suit, aggressively plays a trumpet in front of a green background on a stage.
Bug Bad Wolf Daddy slides into frame backwards while playing his trumpet.
Big Bad Wolf Daddy sits stuck inside a pile of doors on the floor of a wrecked building. his suit and mustache are disheveled, and his expression is dizzy. Daisy Duck walks up to him calmly and says "That was too cool! Sign my book?" while holding out a pink autograph book for him. A small, sentient broom from Fantasia walks by in the foreground.

from the Disney’s House of Mouse episode “Big Bad Wolf Daddy”
