Ivanʼ eyes are more towards purple, and Natashaʼ eyes are more blue. Draw your own conclusions if you want. But I remember that artists often draw Belarus with blue-purple eyes, in a dark and cold shade. And Ivanʼ eyes are brighter. Here are screenshots in another episode, if you want:

(One of the reasons I find this theory difficult to apply to Hetalia is because of the different drawings in different seasons/episodes. Character design changes sometimes really confuse me)

Have you thought about what eye color says about a character?

I came to the conclusion that a shade of eye color can indicate certain traits quite a long time ago. And frankly, now I think itʼs a little silly. I donʼt want to say much, so here are some summarized notes:

Deep, saturated, intense color can mean emotionality, openness, activity of the character. It can also indicate that the person is not very good or often appears so in the eyes of other people. He may not have the most pleasant character, often thinking about something with a sinister face.

A faint, light shade may indicate indecision, self-doubt. If it is also warm, then it can say about such traits as kindness, lack of conflict. This person can be easily suggestible. If it is also cool, then the character is calm, objectively assessing the situation, controlling his emotions. He can be stingy with the manifestation of feelings.

Okay, some Hetalia.

Iʼll add some screenshots. But I also believe that it will be fair to pay attention to both anime and fanarts of artists. Why? Because the artist, when drawing a person, kinda feels his character and selects colors that suit him, trying to convey his traits. I emphasize: this is solely my opinion.

Alfred. He has a bright blue eyes. He is active (hyperactive), loud and a very bright personality in his own right. Not to notice or not to hear him- what the hell are you talking about? Itʼs impossible. Alfred will always make himself felt.

Ludwig. He has a calmer, lighter and cooler shade of eyes. He is always collected, competent, responsible, pedantic. He is able to objectively assess the situation and command others, keeping emotions and feelings under control.

Matthew. He has light purple eyes; violet, as they say. Light and warm shade. He is kind, but modest and inconspicuous. Ivanʼ eyes, in comparison with his, are dark and deep.

I donʼt remember very well all the details about characters and their traits in Hetalia, I thought about it before, pretty long time ago and I have a shitty memory.

Relationships between nations are a really complicated thing. They have a huge responsibility on their shoulders and they cannot build relationships and live like ordinary people. In order not to break down and not lose themselves, they can create a semblance of some kind of relationship between themselves. These weird relationships are hardly similar to what we have, but they help nations not to go crazy.

Some become so “attached” to each other that they will stick close even if they look like they're going to slit each otherʼs throats. Like France and England. Like Russia and America. On the one hand, they are tired of seeing each other, on the other hand, they have spent so much time together that they consider their “hurt-comfort” or “hate-love” relationship something natural.

I’ve always thought about why Francis taught Matthew to called him “papa” while Arthur told Alfred that they were brothers.

I suppose once personifications get colonies they have the power to create whatever relationship they want with that colony. And remember, they’re still “human” in a way. So most of them decide that they want their new colonies to have a sort of familial relationship with them.

Arthur went down the “older brother” path with his colonies because of his own older brothers. He grew up the youngest and wanted to be the older one for once. He was probably picked on when he was little and was under the impression that he would be a “so much better and nicer” older brother.

Also throughout history he was pretty terrible and cruel to his older brothers. So he kinda screwed up his relationship with them. I can see Arthur looking at Alfred, thinking that this would be his “second chance.” Ya he ended up screwing that up as well. Nice job Arthur.

Idk as nations familial relationships are just complicated. Imagine being someone’s older brother while also being their literal colonizer. But as beings who outlive any humans they meet, they’re really only able to make that sort of connection with each other. Because getting that close to any human will inevitably just lead to heartbreak.

I can go on a whole nother rant about how the nations are probably always battling with what it means to be a personification—with what they feel is their duty to their own people and country—and battling with just being human. Like humans they want to experience love and friendship and want families.

Arthur viewed Alfred as his little brother, but he also viewed Alfred as his colony. America was this child he loved cared for and America was this piece of land that he colonized and controlled.

Anyway I’ve made myself sad now.

Oh yes, I forgot that when you mention Russia and everything related to it, Russians activate and find you somehow.

Просто факт. Хотя я без понятия, как вы друг друга выслеживаете, но это в какой-то степени меня действительно смешит и умиляет

You know, itʼs a bit funny when you speak a lot of another language and start to adopt/picking up some habits of native speakers. Like English-speakers often pronounce “Ivan” like “eye-van” when the correct pronunciation is actually “E-van”.

And sometimes I forget Iʼm Russian and I mess up his name... especially when I reading fanfics in English... I apologize, Russia

Now all my attention is riveted on this question. I have already said that I consider Matthew to be an older brother (even outside the historical context, my opinion will not change).

By the way, Iʼll be grateful for reblogs because it means that more people will answer!

Hey, letʼs forget about all history canons for a sec!

I want to know about your own headcanon with these two if you donʼt mind.

Austria being Prussia and Germany cousin, yes they are nations with similar cultures and same language, but why make a canon family relationship?

Hmm, family relationship?

Usually, such countries have a common history and some kind of connection between residents. Like Russians and Belarusians who consider each other to be fraternal peoples.

They can also be countries that are somehow connected through colonization (as well as those that were previously part of the same state). For example, Canada, America, England and France. In the English fandom, the headcanon with these guys has become so strong that even the concept of FACE Family has appeared.

Well, in the case of Germany, Prussia, and Austria, the reason may be the common history, and the similarity of the people living in these countries. There were also cases in history when they were one state.

(I think you asked this question to the wrong person because I donʼt know them well)
